You looking for a change of scenery Harry??

You never know what the new year brings Ding Dong. If you knew Harry you would know that loyalty is the top priority. Harry's played for the Redbacks for 10 years and would love to play there for another 10 years. But you just never know what's around the corner. A bit early really to be looking into next year. At the moment I'm concerntrating on doing my bit to get my boys over the line this week against the Burra.

any news from the tribunal woodend boys?? pickles...?

did podbury have a hearing last night?

Can I ask, do any clubs have a voting system that is fair? Who has ideas on how to get a more accurate way of deciding who your clubs best and fairest should be. You will always get voters that expect more of somebody even if they are clearly best on the day, or may favour somebody because he played better than usual but still wasn't in the top 3 or 5. Some always look at players with reputations. I have seen some very odd vote counts.

i think the only fairest system that i have heard is the one collingwood use and that gissy uses, its the copeland trophy method, it is really good and dosent restric the 6-8 best player, as we all know there are games that a team plays that have more than 5 good players, so its incrediably hard to fit 8 players into 5 votes.
the system( as i know of) works like this:

the coach has the entire list of who played. he then goses through the list and awards votes to players who he thinks deserves them, this means that up to 22 players can all recieve votes if they are worthy of them, unlike being resrticted to only 5 votes/ 5 players, i was told that the year Kangaroo Flat beat Gissy that only 2 players recieved votes from mguane(sorry about spelling) in that game. players can stil be awarded the 5 votes but it then can have like 8 players on 2, 6 on 1 ect.

i think that this is one of if not the best way to sort out who REALLY is the best and fairest player in your club, extremely fair

What do you guys think?
did i explain myself and the system so that you all understand it?

thanks matthew we just love it when you back against diggers and in both grades :thumbsu:

This has been brought up in previous years, but if you need someone to back against you to fire up you have problems. This is what you play football for. Being the underdogs should not make you play better.

Good to see Podbury getting off last night. We want our best players to play finals. Also the word is that they investigated the umpire for his alleged remarks after the report and was found not guilty after video/audio from the boundary couldn't pick up the remarks. Podbury didn't put in a complaint either. Apologies for misleading you all earlier in the week, I guess my information was wrong :p

Great to see common sense prevail. On all reports the umpire was very good last night and didn't try to beat up the charge!

Thanks Harry, a different slant thats for sure. Would love to hear Woody07 thoughts on this one. Big difference between turning around & using your body to deliberately whacking a bloke.
I presume its going no further if the club has taken action?

Still haven't got a lot of info on it FH 18. But by the way the player looked after the game the official must have the body of Andre the Giant. I did hear the player refused to shake hands (not sure why), but he's entitled to do that. It was alledged that the hit was more of a King Hit than use of the body!-Cant confirm until i chat with the player. Either way the incident should have been and might still be investigated to either clear the officials name or hand down a penalty. We shouldn't have brawls after games. As mentioned in a previous post by you FH18 the clubs have a good relationship that i'm sure they'd want to continue, so the quicker they resolve this ugly incident the better. Quick question Harry, how did your club deal with the matter?

Spot on Matt, club and Podbury were never going to put in a complaint!

Good news for us this week, with Podsy taking the feild against a nearly full strength kangas outfit. Looking forward to the battle of the midfields, cracker of a game ahead.

Reserves Elimination Final

Saturday 1st September, 12.00pm
Gilbert Gordon Reserve, Woodend.

Romsey Vs Riddell
A huge game for both of these sides as spots 3 - 5 on the ladder were only decided in last round matchups.
The Redbacks will be disappointed with last weeks loss. Their form in the Reserves has been inconsistent over the course of the season and after some big wins have found themselves on the end of some bad losses. Dremel is a key player for the Redbacks along with Clint Dawson, these 2 will need to step up and fire for Romsey. If Dipper pulls them on for the finals he can add another dimension to a strong midfield group.
The Bombers were disappointing last week, some ill discipline cost them at critical times. Bryce Marks is a key though, big strong and attacks the ball hard, players will move out of his way if he gets up a head of steam. The Bombers need plenty of drive from the midfield group, to get over the Redbacks, Coach Tresize will need his men on the ball, switched on and most importantly disciplined.
Riddell by 4 pts.

looking forward to harrys previews on a big 1st week of finals footy...we can we expect it H??

It's only Wenesday!! I'm still collecting my thoughts on the weekend just gone. There may be a little something in there about a certain defender doing a steller job on one of the leagues better forwards for the second time ;) .

I would say "Harry's Happenings - The Finals Edition" should be ready by Friday lunchtime, earlier if possible.

Let's hope you blokes get another crack at the Hawks, either next week or in the prelim, because I know Dowling hates getting beaten, so Catters you'll have an almighty task.

Essendon Nissan Elimination Final

Saturday 1st September, 2.15pm
Gilbert Gordon Reserve, Woodend

Romsey Vs Diggers Rest
A long rivalry between these 2 sides that will now extend into finals time on Gilbert Gordon. 2 sides that have no love lost between them.
Romsey finished the season in 4th spot but proved over the past couple of weeks (excluding the Riddell game) that they can match it with the top sides. Matty McClellan has had a superb season, playing off a wing and collecting plenty of the ball, his delivery inside 50 has revived the stuttering start to the year for the forwards. Out on the other wing, Chris Wilson has quietly gone about his work, getting under the guard of the opposition and continually pushing the ball inside the forward 50. Cam Dawson's season has been reborn with a move into the midfield. The youngster has been racking up possessions and causing opposition sides serious problems, when combined with Brydon Morgan, who again has been one of the most damaging players in the league and others rotating through the midfield, the Redbacks centre, being fed by ruckman Ryan Connellan is getting better by the week. Ensuring that forwards Burlak, Richmond and AJ Higgins have been getting plenty of opportunity to kick goals.
The Burra had a slow start to the season, but of recent weeks have started to again hit their straps and show the form displayed that had them playing finals last year.
With Jeremy Jose dominating the contests around the ground, giving Sims, Heritage, Ruane, Walshe and others first use, the Burra are a dangerous unit capable of going a long way in the finals. Craig Thompson and Leigh Rust have been excellent pickups for the Burra and have had big impacts on games this year, the backline looks alot more stable and capable of keeping opposition sides to mediocre scores, led by Underwood and Page, this could be the key to their game on Saturday.

Key Matchups (None of these may happen, this is a guide to who has the bigger impact will help their team to a win).
Connellan Vs Jose - 2 of the best ruckman in the league going head to head. Classic matchup to watch.
Sims Vs Dawson - The Burra's captain Vs The Heir apparent. If this matchup was to go ahead, it would be a great dual to watch, could Sims teach Dawson a few tricks, or would Dawson's young legs be too much for Sims to handle.
Morgan Vs Reilly - These 2 tend to find each other in these games and the result is a good tough battle. In past finals matchup's though, Morgan has gotten the better of Dan. But Dan is capable of stepping up a notch too. Could be a game decider.

Romsey by 8 points.

Under 18's Buffalo Sports Cup Qualifying Final

Sunday 2nd September, 9.45am
Riddell Reserve, Riddell

Romsey Vs Diggers Rest
The winner will get the chance to have a crack at the Hawks, the loser, a dangerous match up with either Macedon or the Kangaroos.
Romsey have been the 2nd best side all year. The Redback guns are a class group of players, led by Danny Harrison, Phil Romeril and Ben Sullivan. Up forward John Baker has been the league's leading goalkicker and a very dangerous target. The Redbacks like to run forward from stoppages, as do their opponents, will be interesting to see the result.
The Burra have been a little up and down but are very well coached. With youngsters Tom Gleeson, Hannon and Blake Robinson through the midfield, the Burra can be tough to stop when they get running. But can they stop the Redbacks going the opposite way?

Romsey by 28 points.

Reserves Qualifying Final

Sunday 2nd September, 12.00pm
Riddell Reserve, Riddell

Diggers Rest Vs Sunbury Kangaroos
The rematch of last years Grand Final. So far this year they have won one game each, so much on the line here, a shot at Woodend next week.
The Burra have, with Woodend/Hesket, been the standout side this year. Well balanced with younger players along with the experience of players such as Mick Sheehan and Pete Elliot. The Burra will look to consolidate their season with a win over the bitter rivals in the Kangaroos.
The Roos have slowly improved as the season has gone on, Brett Janetzki has again had a solid season along with Gav Jenkins. The Roos will be looking to put a stamp on the finals series with an early win against one of the big contenders, putting themselves in a position to take on the Hawks.
Roos to win.

Essendon Nissan Qualifying Final

Sunday 2nd September, 2.15pm
Riddell Reserve, Riddell.

Woodend/Hesket Vs Sunbury Kangaroos
Two games, two close margins, these 2 sides have already met in a couple of classic games this year. This week should be no different.
The Hawks have been top 3 contenders since the start of the year. With gun players Danny Sipthorp and Kar Weng Ng working their way back into the senior side and making themselves real contenders. The Hawks key has been their underrated backline. James Hardwick, Warren Else, Adam Morton, all players moving through the Hawks backline have handled themselves with aplomb, ensuring that the Hawk midfield get plenty of the ball to feed Luke Barker up forward. Sipthorp is obviously a star and holds one of the keys to the game. But with Guy Donovan, Adam Johnstone and Paul Podbury moving into the midfield as well, the Hawks have a super midfield that can demolish opposition sides.
Matt Stacey could hold another of the keys for the Hawks. He needs to take on Cuffe and James and hold his own for the Hawks to win, a job he did last time these 2 sides met.
The Roos had a disappointing finish to the season. Disappointing final 5 rounds up until the Riddell game. A much improved performance in that game will have the Kangas players in a better frame of mind come Sunday. Of course the talk all year has surrounded Bonnici, he has been superb for the Roos and will need to continue that form this week. Mark and Leigh McInerney will also need to continue to step up through the midfield to lift the Roos. Jamie Cuffe has been superb so far, he is improving every week and will be a key come finals time for the Roos.
A huge game for both sides, and a game that is sure to be another cracking contest.
Roos to win.

Damn it... There must have been a leak of information...

I will have to announce it now then.

I would like to announce that after exhaustive attempts and deep contract negotiations, the Sunbury Kangaroos have employed a new Under 18's assistant coach, a man that has an extensive knowledge of local football and will become my new eyes and ears come this Saturday morning at Gilbert Gordon.

I am extremely pleased to announce OMNI as the SKFC Under 18's assistant coach for the remainder of 2007. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Does bobby know about this?
Surely he was they key to the success this year and you can't be replacing him!

what will this mean for the kangaroos secret weapon of the under 18s bobby johnson.your a naughty boy ims and if i could lift u id put u ova my knee and spank u.
uncle is back

Not a bad finish for the Burra. I personally wouldn't have had Ruane in the top 5, obviously he does the 1 % ers and the little things that opposition players don't see. If he came fourth, he must have deserved it. Sims is a bit stiff to finish 5th:confused: I would have thought he'd either win it or finish runner up. They rely on him so much and he delivers consistantly.

Just an outsiders observation.:thumbsu:

Both Sims and Ruane were injured in the first half of the year, hence why the came 4th and 5th. With your thought on rooza, last year when he won the Bowen, no one new who he was except for his hair. This year he he highly rated and he was good enough to continue his good form, after the injury of course. This yeah he has played all positions of the field, which is an awesome thing to do, he played full back, CHB, centre, chf and full foward aswell sa on the ball and he has also won the goal kicking. I believe personally he has has an alround better year. Jeremy Jose although he is highly rated, people come to expect alot from him. He pretty much is an onballer who rucks also. Truly deserves first. Was also great to see Jeff get some credit coming 2nd, good return after a life threatning accident last year.
