can you blokes please get over this and smooth it out somewhere else? dont bring outside banter such as cricket stuff into an argument that shouldn't be being had on this forum, you obviously know who each other are, take the argument somewhere else and leave the footy chat on here, thankyou.

We'll what a big few days it has been! After a big week last week on the terps, and a massive afternoon session Sunday and Monday, one thing i noticed from talking to players form different clubs, was the about how good this year was.

Spoke with almost a player from every club including players from outside RDFL clubs that came to watch and almost everyone commented on the increase of pace, skill level and talent the RDFL had seen in 2007! Which led me to "08".

All year we have talked about and associated old RDFL clubs returning, and the conclusion, was not for a couple years!

Well it looks to be that players playing in these comps, including near and far, where more than happy with the style, intensity and pace of the game, and could look to return or start! "If the clubs aren't coming back the players sure are............"

I look at how big the signing of "sippy" and "Bonicci" has been this year, and it's shown the RDFL can draw crowds, talent and sponsors! I attended the Ballarat grand final, and where not far off as far as corporate doings but crowd wise, was much of a muchness....

So my view on 2007 was a big :thumbsu:............

Look forward to next year and what lies ahead........

Spot on trueblue. The RDFL is definitely on the way up. The standard of football continues to improve, the financial positions of most clubs now appear stable (not so just 5 years ago) & the relationships between players, clubs & the league hierarchy is also at an all time high. IMO it would be ludicrous to even consider reinventing our league as a 2 division league again where the rich clubs dominate whilst the poorer & smaller clubs struggle to field sides and attract vsponsors etc.

–adjective
1.almighty or infinite in power, as God.
2.having very great or unlimited authority or power.

Obviously you have great knowledge and power, given your handle.

I, therefore, find it difficult to comprehend, that one with such infinite power, would not have known or either bothered to check the reason behind the Riddell Officials decided to move the players off the ground before agreeing with comments of other particpants not connected to the Club.

It was not meant as any disrespect to the Woodend team or Club. They are to be congratulated for their success. They played the better football and had the greater desire on the day.

The Riddell players were seated on the ground waiting for the presentation when a potentially volatile incident occured between supporters next to where they were seated.

Given the incidents that occured during the game and the abuse that was also being directed at the players from individuals walking past the huddle. The decsion was made to move the players into the rooms to avoid any further unsightly incidents.

Nothing more.

I have been reading the RDFL thread all year and I have enjoyed and sometimes been bemused by the comments of the participants.
However, I think it proper to check information is correct, before automatically assuming the worse.

If this was the reason for the Riddell players not sitting out on the ground then it's good enough for me. Scooter and Andy Power have enough integrity in my eyes to believe such a version. Again there were many players and the coach who sought out our players to congratulate them, which was great to see. Although there seemed to be a bit of tension after the game from supporters it was great that no one acted inappropriately.
As mentioned by Trueblue and FH 18 the league has had a great year and should only get better!
Matt how did you end up in the betting stakes? You did mention you were going to give it away next year, but I’m sure most would agree that it added a little more interest to the league and certainly another talking point at the end of each week. Hope you stick to your guns and keep giving us odds next year. It’s certainly hasn't hurt the Woodend economy! Hey did you realise you were talking to FH18 for a good ten minutes on the weekend-For what its worth he thought you were a terrific bloke:D.

I ended up well in front over the course of the season, but it is illegal and there is a good saying about quitting while ahead. FH18 has good taste, he isn't a bad bloke himself either. Once again, well done to the Hawkas and it was good to get the Mark Williams-Alan Scott "you were wrong".

Now back in the land of the living .Congrats to Woodend .Simply wanted it more and played alot better team football.Well coached Mick.As 4 walking of ground early we had no choice,2 males on more than beer made it clear what they wanted to do .Would have loved to stay out as it is a great learning experience4 our young side.Chris if you would have came into the rooms at sometime after the game,as you have most of the year you would have realized this.Good luck to Woody up north .Once again we were outplayed on the day well done. The Hunted have now become the HUNTERS.

Fair enough Scoot but would love some questions answered if you could. Will Wadden be welcomed back to Riddell FC after the off season? What did the club hierarchy think of the incident? Will D rowsell be senior coach at RiddellFC again next year?
I think it was probably fortunate that the incident happened against Woodend. Ive seen enough to suggest that not all clubs supporters would have taken to a player being king hit that lightly.
Woody will no doubt be sorely missed at Hawks in coming years but i have heard a whisper that Rodriguez might step into the void. Another great clubman with a great knowledge of the modern game. Any truth Rodriguez or is too soon to say?

So can you give us some opening quotes for next years Premiers. Maybe i should take over your SP license. Try these for size:
Woodend-Hesket $2.50
Riddell / Kangaroos $3.00
Diggers $5.00
Romsey / Kilmore $7.00
Lancefield $12
Melton Centrals $20
Macedon / Rockbank $50

Possible big-name recruits over summer:
Woodend-Hesket (Mick Lacey)
Riddell (Mark Power)
Kangaroos (Heath Wadden)
Diggers (??? Key Forward)
Romsey (Al Meldrum)
Kilmore (Rob Wittmer)
Lancefield (Steven Reaper)
Centrals (??? Hard-nosed Captain/Coach)
Macedon (Anthony Belcher)
Rockbank (??? Gun midfielder)

Some of the above are apparently on the cards whilst others are just wild stabs in the dark. Feel free to tell me if i'm close or way off the mark.

Al's been reappointed as Heathcote coach. Hopefully Greenshields can get on the park for Centrals next year, will be like putting Sipthorp into the side for them. I doubt Reaps will be at Lancefield, even though his brother is assistant coach. Works for the VCFL and if he plays he'll be encouraged to play in one of their leagues. Doubt Lace will comeback to the Hawks, although you'll have better info than I :p. Wittmer is probably 85% certain to return to Kilmore, and I have about five other names up my sleeve for the Blues too, but can't divulge just yet. I'm recruiting for three clubs.

Hope you are right fh18 can't see it though Ant has a bit on his plate over the next 18 mths.

Would be huge for the cattery if it happens would be one off the best recruits for the league in 08.

Lacey a 75% chance to return to hawks and my sources say Reaps about same % to play at lancefield. Wont be available every week but will play about 10 games.
Would also be interested to hear whats happening at the cattery. Have they got soembody in mind for 08? What are there plans re recruiting? Surely if they can hang onto some of the quality kids they have had come thru recently and add a couple of older experienced players they will soon become competitive.

What a GRAND FINAL!!!!! only just regaining the use of my voice, exactly the fashion woodend wanted to win it i beleive, had to fight right until the end.

After watching the quality of the woodend u/18's, and there reserves almost being untouchable all season one can only beleive that if woodend can hold there squad together they will be in for an equally successfull season..
Anyone here in close contact with woodend predict which players will take the next step and have a massive impact on the season? from watching the 18's im gonna have to go with Jimmy Chettle, big burly kid

I think you answered your own question WW. With Woodends list very deep allready I can't see many of the kids taking to many senior spots.
Making them prime targets in 2009 for other clubs.

Chettle coming from Gissy this year may go back, Shippard, Sheppard and Kopke would be the likely group to play some senior games next year to have (massive impact) will be hard for any kid coming up.

rumor has it that Sunbury Kangaroos coach has been told he has to apply for his position for next season. Coach of the year has to re apply is a bit of a joke. Apparently he has been told that they have applications already for his job. If he does not get the job expect some big names to leave the club to follow the coach

Stongly agree, Jarryd Dixon has proved that he is the man for the job. He has gotten more out of the players at his disposal than anyone would have thought he could. They made a prelim, remember, that's only one good game away from fighting it out for the Flag. Seems a strange decision to screen applicants, but then again, perhaps they set a protocol over the last couple of years that every position gets looked at to ensure everyone is on the same page and position holders are accountable and responsible for their results. I couldn't see them going past Jarryd next year, although stranger things have happened, for example, Romsey won the flag in 03 and had a new coach the next year.

:mad::thumbsdown::mad:Expect numbers to drop like flies if dixon goes ... It will be kangas/rovers all over again 10 years ago,hes the right man for the job regardless of what hes built the club from the rabble it once was...His recruiting ability has been outstanding and with 2-3 more senior blokes he WILL take them to the 08 flag .. the emphasis on the roos at the end of the prelim was sticking together to keep building on their success. If the commitee get selfish too early because theyve getting a sniff of it, expect things to go pear-shaped :mad::thumbsdown:
