While we are on the Bowen Medal topic, I might as well bring up a pet peeve of mine.
The reserves best and fairest should not be called the Scarborough Medal. I bring this up every year and with due respect to Matt Martin and other recent winners, they should not be placed in the same category as the likes of Marty Lakey, who won it when it was the senior best and fairest in the second division of the RDFL.
Past Scarborough medalists should also be recognised as elite players of the RDFL, as often the best player in the entire competition was in second division. Once again I'll use Lakey as an example.
Maybe it's too late, but I'm a massive fan of history and I just think we are recording history pretty poorly at the moment. When someone goes to do a book on 200 years of football in the Riddell District, they'll look at old newspapers, RDFL annual reports etc to gather their info. We must get it right now before it is too late.
