Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Had occasion to view the condition of the Riddell ground recently, & let me tell you I have never seen the oval in such a magnificent state as it is at present.......... EVER !
Lush, green & no bare patches whatsoever........ even the goal squares have plenty of grass on them, those responsible deserve a pat on the back.

Will be a real treat for all taking the field there this season to be sure !

That's great to hear omni. Lancefield's ground is also in excellent condition, most of the boys trained in footy boots this week and the grass needs cutting regularly, not bad for Feb.

Any reports on other grounds? How's centrals and rockbank looking after a bit of rain?

The MCG at the cattery still a bit patchy but in much better nick than this time last year. Also those that have boots (molded) wearing them at training.

Romsey's ground is lush all over. Boys are wearing runners while warming up and then getting the boots on once the balls come out. Still, in my opinion, the best ground (on the inside of the fence) in the league.

RDFL Allstar Match

Have heard that the VCFL are making it hard for the RDFL to arrange an interleague game.

Have also heard from reliable source that RDFL are considering an allstar match on that allocated weekend.

Would be in the form of East vs West

East team would be made up of the following

Rockbank, Centrals, Diggers, Kangaroos & Riddle

West team would be made of the following

Lancefield, Romsey, Woodend, Macedon, Kilmore & Wallan

The league is concerned that players will not support the idea. Please post any feedback.

I think this would be a great concept to make our own league stronger and a great day to promote the strength and eveness of the competiton.

The coaches would be 2 people who are not coaching in the RDFL at this point and the targeted coaches are both past champions of the league.

Any player that will be selected in the team of the year must play in this game.

Please let me know what you guys think of this idea. I think it is a great idea and shows the league is thinking out of the square to promote our league within.

Let me know guys !!!

Cheers Tragic

I'm all for the idea as long as I get selected to either play or coach or even run the water!!!:D

As far as the team of the year selections having to come from that game, I don't agree with that idea. What say some one has a blinding start to the year, really sets their side up, gets an niggling injury half way through for about 5 weeks, then comes back and has a pivotal role in getting his side in to the finals. Every other year a performance like that would be rewarded with selection into the team of the year, but from the sound of the plans of selection this year, that same player would miss out because they didn't play in a non-home and away season related game, that has no bearing on where his side finishes on the ladder, due to his niggling injury.

I think that perhaps there could be a BOG award for that game, which, would be a reasonably coverted award as you would need to be the best of the best on the day. But I am all for a match like this one proposed.:thumbsu:

Picklenko they tell me there's some sore and sorry sheep out Kiwi land hope you enjoyed your holiday, just seen some registrations in Macedon leading the way things mist be good halful up there. Roos very quite have you signed up some Sunbury boys yet- I think so. Good to see Kilmore on a roll 2nd behind Macedon with recruits at the moment- can you tell me if you have 18s this year because it would be another good step for Kilmore.
2008 rdfl comp looking good. Omni your not thinking of putting the boots on for Riddell 2s are you ??

Harry, for the game to be a winner the league would need the best players available if a player has a niggling injury and plays for his team before and after the intra league game then he forfits his opportunity for team of the year. If a player misses a couple of games either side of game then agree he should still be eligable for team of the year.

My thoughts on it.

If the guys can't get an Interleague game going this would be the next best option.

If we had an Interleague game would that be our team of the year ?

Harry,

I understand that and I suppose in my quick summary of the concept i did not go into alot of detail.

Of coarse there will always be some kind of exception to the rule and maybe that is if they are injured prior to the game or for the game and say a week after the game they would still be eligiable for the team of the year.

What the league dosent want to happen is for guys just to say they are injured to miss the game and still be considered for the team of the year.

We want the players to support this concept. As long as they are fit and selected they should play, if not then the no team of the year !!.

I think this is possibly one the best ideas I have heard come out of the RDFL. How many times has the interleague failed ? This is a great opportunity to put a show on for all of the supporters from all of the clubs to celebrate the hard work so many do.

I agree BOG for sure. Maybe a medal named after a champion from the league I have my thoughts on who. Who would you name the medal after ?

Cheers

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

if an interleauge was to get up who would be the possible leauges that would we play? would we male it a METRO vs COUNTRY styled theme where we could find a leauge that is close to ours so that it would be a good match to see the difference in the country leauges compared to our metro leauge.

when wold this game take place? im sure players are all for it, but what i would think would scare some off would be the time of the game, you dont the game to close to finals and the game to early for players to be picked on namesake. what i mean by that is that there are players who would be picked on the team just because of their name, in sure we'd all like to see the players who make a big improvment from last year or whos playing really good for their club at the time get the opportunity to play for the leauge, someone whos having a breakout season.

im not attempting pump up his tyres but a name for the comp medal for BOB could be the neil sharpe madal??

i know that he had done alot of work for the leauge in getting new and good sponsor to the leauge, he helpc lubs get to where they needed to financilly by allowing them time to pay their fees of in installments, i know he wasnt around for a long time but he did take over when the going so tough and has been a major reason ehy the leaugr is strong at the moment, its only a though im sure there will be many other names that will be thrown up that hold more credit than sharpy.

im sure pickles will have the matt nicholls medal floating around somewhere in his office that he personally engraved that he will donate!, any chance off u making an appearence at the cricket again 2moro matt? or u just turn up when lancefield are bowling an sledge from the sidelines like last week?

Nah just coming to sledge. It's much more fun than playing :D

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I wouldn't think you would name the medal after an administrator.

I was thinking of Brett Hickey Medal.

Brett won a Bowen medal, legend of the league as a player and is giving back as an umpire. I top bloke in need of recognition !!!

I dont think that Inter League has any traction these days. Country leagues have way too much $$ and a league like RDFL can not compete. Inter League is an old system and we need to start a new tradition.

Imagine the best 44 players in the comp playing on the 1 field at the one time. !! The midfield match ups ?

Maybe the league can put som $$ up for the winning side ? for each player to get a share of.

The match would be played around July 5th on the weekend allocated for interleague. This also is in conjunction with the 2 split rounds in the following few weeks to help players with some recovery and family time

What about some potential East side and a West side ? any ideas out there guys ?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

My ideal East Team (using Kilmore, Wallan, Lancefield, Romsey, Riddell)

HB: J. Allen (Riddell), L. Kemp (Kilmore), T. Cox (Romsey).

C: M. Robertson (Kilmore), M. Gibson (Wallan), J. Belleville (Riddell).

HF: S. Choate (Lancefield), S. Burlak (Romsey), M. Allen (Riddell).

F: R. Connellan (Romsey), L. James (Riddell), D. Cornish (Kilmore).

R: P. Conway (Lancefield), C. Collins (Lancefield), M. Kaakour (Kilmore).

I: A. Blade (Riddell), R. Dowling (Lancefield), B. Whiteway (Wallan), C. Dawson (Romsey).

In my opinion it makes no sense to have Macedon and Woodend in the East Ward ahead of Riddell.
