Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I think Romsey will finish higher at the end of the season, but these matches are always close, and I reckon the Redbacks lack a little bit of fitness at the moment.
I know lack a little bit of fitness thats why I only said 60 points
I think we will score alot more in the second half than the first half.:thumbsu:

Lancefield have recruited: Tom Waters (Bulleen Templestowe); Rick Dowling (Woodend-Hesket); Ben Talbot (Kyneton); John Baker (Romsey); Myles Dorman (Kyneton). Like I said, the Redbacks will have a better year, I just think the Tigers might sneak a win early. If they don't they could very well be 0-6 before their bye with matches against Kilmore (H), Woodend-Hesket (A), Macedon (H), Riddell (A), and Melton Central (H).

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

hey fellas has anyone got results for the last week of practice matches played by the riddell district teams?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Trying to forget the Semmens' very quickly! They are not normally that bad in the home and away season, but they have been known to have even worse days than that! Kilmore got the best end of the decisions, that's for sure!

Why oh why hasn't someone told these two Grandstanding Megalomaniacs that they aren't bigger than the game, and that the best Umpires/Umpiring are the ones that go unnoticed !

Its time to leave................................. Semmens's's's's's'ses !

does this mean the tribunal will throw out all the semmens reports this year?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Yeah surely beleville would start on the field.
It looks like a tough side to beat.

Only a few days away from round one, anyone else going to have a go at predictiing things like premeirs, top 5's, wooden spooner, rising stars or bowen medals.
I think last year someone did a mike sheahan top 30 or 50?

I've been trying to wait as close to R1 as possible before posting this, but this is my Top 50

Apologies to any new players I may have left out.

1. Lee James (Riddell) – A prolific full-forward who enjoyed a year out of the RDFL playing for Mulwala in the Murray Football League. Has kicked the ‘ton’ for Riddell before, and if the Bombers fire again in 2008, should be able to again pass the milestone mark. If there was a mark of the year award in the RDFL, James would be odds on to win it.

2. Matt Robertson (Kilmore) – Can play any position on the ground (barring ruck) and do it just about better than anybody else in the competition. While it is hard to argue that he is the best midfielder, forward or defender, he is by far the best utility and I’m sure every coach would love to have a ‘Robbo’ in their side. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet.

3. Daniel Sipthorp (Woodend-Hesket) – While pre-season speculation had Sipthorp leaving the Hawks this winter, there has yet to be a clearance lodged away from Gilbert Gordon Reserve and therefore, you have to assume he’ll be at Woodend-Hesket again. On his day, Sipthorp is a prolific tall who can dominate the best defenders in the competition. Didn’t see the best of him last year, but if fit, a genuine superstar of this league.

4. Peter Robertson (Riddell) – Having played with the Calder Cannons last year, and unsuccessfully missing out on an AFL berth, Robertson has the potential to dominate in the midfield this season. Whilst a gamble at number four, this 20-year-old has a smart football brain and should not let me down.

5. Adrian Baker (Romsey) – I saw him in a practice match against Jacana a couple of weeks ago and this guy was simply awesome. Stands out in a crowd and likes it that way. When he played for Broadford a few years ago he dominated, and has done well in recent seasons at West Preston Lakeside, despite injury problems. If he stays fit, could challenge Lee James for the league goalkicking.

6. David Cornish (Wallan) – Won the RDFL’s goalkicking last year, but even then we didn’t see the best of this talented forward. While his smaller stature would not normally command a spot in the goal square, Cornish has a freakish ability to use his footy smarts and lower body strength to out-bustle even the toughest of defenders. If he has his kicking boots on this year, he could go close to kicking the ton.

7. Shaun Sims (Diggers Rest) – A superbly talented onballer who finds the footy when the going is tough. Has been an outstanding captain for Diggers Rest, and if he continues to get the support in the midfield, should again poll well in the Bowen Medal. Must be a chance at skippering the West Team in the RDFL All Star match.

8. Sam Young (Riddell) – High quality midfielder who just loves getting the ball from the bottom of the pack. The harder the contest, the better Young plays. In the pre-season he dominated in a practice match against Heathcote, a side that should go close to winning the premiership. Has a reoccurring knee injury and will be nursed through the season.

9. Tom Waters (Lancefield) – It’s a big call I know, especially with the amount of quality ruckman around, but Waters appears to be an upcoming star. Although he has yet to play a senior game for the Tigers, having been recruited from Bulleen Templestowe in the VAFA, Waters has shown in practice matches that he has all the skills. At 21 years of age, he is a player to watch.

10. Tim Dettmann (Macedon) – Making his comeback to the Cattery after a highly successful campaign in the juniors and Under 18s, Dettmann is all class. As an 18-year-old he was a key player in Strathmore’s premiership win in the EDFL A-grade. It’s hard to judge how good he’ll be compared to Macedon’s other “unknown” recruits, but he should be a premier player in the competition.

11. Ryan Connellan (Romsey)
12. Brian Wheelahan (Melton Central)
13. Jamie Cuffe (Sunbury Kangaroos)
14. Mark Power (Riddell)
15. Matt Gibson (Wallan)
16. Clint Wheatley (Romsey)
17. Arnel Davis (Diggers Rest)
18. Justin Belleville (Riddell)
19. Matt Stacey (Woodend-Hesket)
20. Luke Walker (Rockbank)
21. Chris Collins (Lancefield)
22. Linton Kemp (Kilmore)
23. Leigh and Mark McInerney (Sunbury Kangaroos)
24. Jason Allen (Riddell)
25. Luke Barker (Woodend-Hesket)
26. Chris Coleman (Wallan)
27. Tristan Salter (Kilmore)
28. Guy Donovan (Woodend-Hesket)
29. Mick Allen (Riddell)
30. Adam Kearney (Romsey)
31. Jeremy Jose (Diggers Rest)
32. Simon Choate (Lancefield)
33. Alan Carroll (Kilmore)
34. Damien Niki (Sunbury Kangaroos)
35. Kar Weng Ng (Woodend-Hesket)
36. Matt McLellan (Romsey)
37. James Petran (Riddell)
38. David Fowler (Wallan)
39. Aaron Christiansen (Macedon)
40. Steve Burlak (Romsey)
41. Cole Laurie (Diggers Rest)
42. Aaron Blade (Riddell)
43. Paul Podbury (Woodend-Hesket)
44. Matt Krul (Rockbank)
45. Darren Goodwin (Macedon)
46. Tim Fennell (Wallan)
47. Kane Bullen (Melton Central)
48. Brenton Sutherland (Sunbury Kangaroos)
49. James Climas (Riddell)
50. Geoff O’Connor (Macedon)

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I thought Petran was the 2nd best forward at Riddell - you listed him as the 4th best here.

Massive coup for 100.7FM with Wayne Carey the special guest on the show.

If Riddell don't use him like they should he may not progress as much this year. Hope I'm wrong and the young fella becomes the main target at half-forward ahead of Power, Meacham, Harrison and Mick Allen.

I can see this a lot this year:

Glenn Robertson hitout to brother Peter -- shepherd from Sam Young -- kick to James Petran -- Petran wheels around and kicks high to goal square -- SPECKY to Lee James -- goal!
