Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

You sure you don't want to call the games this this? You would paint a could picture for the listeners!

Will you be at the GF replay this Sat?

If invited I'd be happy to do some special comments. But I won't be at the Hawks' unfurling this Saturday. I'll be at half of the Wallan v Rockbank clash, half of the Kilmore v Melton Central match, and the full game of Romsey v Lancefield on Sunday.

Gee you must be jumping out of your skin to watch those 2 games. Obviously you don't get to choose which games you get to watch.

Might get you on with Pittsey - he told me you two would work well together.

I actually get to chose which games I go to, but I work for a newspaper that covers Broadford, Kilmore, Wallan, Romsey, Lancefield and Riddell. I don't think our readers over here in the east would be too happy if I didn't cover their games!

I was actually just about to rip into you Matt for not doing your research on clubs on the Westside of the RDFL competition. But I guess going to these games will give you an insight. Rockbank have recruited and developed a very good onball brigade, plus a few others that will be handy. Im not saying they're going to upset sides but they will be just as competitive or even better than last year. Melton have promoted their recruits and the development within. Their preseason has been better by all reports. The club is travelling a lot better than last year. Hopefully you'll discover a few more players in your top 50!

I wouldn't be judging these two clubs just yet Kings Army because they will be very competitive this year. I hope they make you eat humble pie! Enjoy the games Matt!

Also, just looking at your top 50, their will be a couple more Diggers to add to that by the end of the year. Recruits and younger blokes at the club. Plus, how does a RDFL team of the year player only be rated 39?? Chin up Aaron, maybe you might get some better recognition and respect in a much improved side this year!

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

where can we get a look ast the current top 50?
can someone post on here i must have missed it.
Cheers

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

1. Lee James (Riddell) – A prolific full-forward who enjoyed a year out of the RDFL playing for Mulwala in the Murray Football League. Has kicked the ‘ton’ for Riddell before, and if the Bombers fire again in 2008, should be able to again pass the milestone mark. If there was a mark of the year award in the RDFL, James would be odds on to win it.

2. Matt Robertson (Kilmore) – Can play any position on the ground (barring ruck) and do it just about better than anybody else in the competition. While it is hard to argue that he is the best midfielder, forward or defender, he is by far the best utility and I’m sure every coach would love to have a ‘Robbo’ in their side. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet.

3. Daniel Sipthorp (Woodend-Hesket) – While pre-season speculation had Sipthorp leaving the Hawks this winter, there has yet to be a clearance lodged away from Gilbert Gordon Reserve and therefore, you have to assume he’ll be at Woodend-Hesket again. On his day, Sipthorp is a prolific tall who can dominate the best defenders in the competition. Didn’t see the best of him last year, but if fit, a genuine superstar of this league.

4. Peter Robertson (Riddell) – Having played with the Calder Cannons last year, and unsuccessfully missing out on an AFL berth, Robertson has the potential to dominate in the midfield this season. Whilst a gamble at number four, this 20-year-old has a smart football brain and should not let me down.

5. Adrian Baker (Romsey) – I saw him in a practice match against Jacana a couple of weeks ago and this guy was simply awesome. Stands out in a crowd and likes it that way. When he played for Broadford a few years ago he dominated, and has done well in recent seasons at West Preston Lakeside, despite injury problems. If he stays fit, could challenge Lee James for the league goalkicking.

6. David Cornish (Wallan) – Won the RDFL’s goalkicking last year, but even then we didn’t see the best of this talented forward. While his smaller stature would not normally command a spot in the goal square, Cornish has a freakish ability to use his footy smarts and lower body strength to out-bustle even the toughest of defenders. If he has his kicking boots on this year, he could go close to kicking the ton.

7. Shaun Sims (Diggers Rest) – A superbly talented onballer who finds the footy when the going is tough. Has been an outstanding captain for Diggers Rest, and if he continues to get the support in the midfield, should again poll well in the Bowen Medal. Must be a chance at skippering the West Team in the RDFL All Star match.

8. Sam Young (Riddell) – High quality midfielder who just loves getting the ball from the bottom of the pack. The harder the contest, the better Young plays. In the pre-season he dominated in a practice match against Heathcote, a side that should go close to winning the premiership. Has a reoccurring knee injury and will be nursed through the season.

9. Tom Waters (Lancefield) – It’s a big call I know, especially with the amount of quality ruckman around, but Waters appears to be an upcoming star. Although he has yet to play a senior game for the Tigers, having been recruited from Bulleen Templestowe in the VAFA, Waters has shown in practice matches that he has all the skills. At 21 years of age, he is a player to watch.

10. Tim Dettmann (Macedon) – Making his comeback to the Cattery after a highly successful campaign in the juniors and Under 18s, Dettmann is all class. As an 18-year-old he was a key player in Strathmore’s premiership win in the EDFL A-grade. It’s hard to judge how good he’ll be compared to Macedon’s other “unknown” recruits, but he should be a premier player in the competition.

11. Ryan Connellan (Romsey)
12. Brian Wheelahan (Melton Central)
13. Jamie Cuffe (Sunbury Kangaroos)
14. Mark Power (Riddell)
15. Matt Gibson (Wallan)
16. Clint Wheatley (Romsey)
17. Arnel Davis (Diggers Rest)
18. Justin Belleville (Riddell)
19. Matt Stacey (Woodend-Hesket)
20. Luke Walker (Rockbank)
21. Chris Collins (Lancefield)
22. Linton Kemp (Kilmore)
23. Leigh and Mark McInerney (Sunbury Kangaroos)
24. Jason Allen (Riddell)
25. Luke Barker (Woodend-Hesket)
26. Chris Coleman (Wallan)
27. Tristan Salter (Kilmore)
28. Guy Donovan (Woodend-Hesket)
29. Mick Allen (Riddell)
30. Adam Kearney (Romsey)
31. Jeremy Jose (Diggers Rest)
32. Simon Choate (Lancefield)
33. Alan Carroll (Kilmore)
34. Damien Niki (Sunbury Kangaroos)
35. Kar Weng Ng (Woodend-Hesket)
36. Matt McLellan (Romsey)
37. James Petran (Riddell)
38. David Fowler (Wallan)
39. Aaron Christiansen (Macedon)
40. Steve Burlak (Romsey)
41. Cole Laurie (Diggers Rest)
42. Aaron Blade (Riddell)
43. Paul Podbury (Woodend-Hesket)
44. Matt Krul (Rockbank)
45. Darren Goodwin (Macedon)
46. Tim Fennell (Wallan)
47. Kane Bullen (Melton Central)
48. Brenton Sutherland (Sunbury Kangaroos)
49. James Climas (Riddell)
50. Geoff O’Connor (Macedon)

Riddell
Woodend
Romsey
Sunbury
Digger Rest
Kilmore
Wallen
Lancefield
Melton
Macedon
Rockbank

Hey George - at least I do not have them last and 2nd last.

The thing I am amazed at is the RDFL swapping to the top 6. 3rd place is a fanatastic result. Last year at the Grand Final breakfast in the Ballarat comp the Redan President came out and said all year they played to finish 3rd.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Hey Kings your almost up to as many Yellow Cards as me. Up for a wager on who gets the most to Sept?

No worries - IMS loves me now so I am safe! The last yellow card was a disgrace. I started a thread in Bay 13 that had already been started. Yellow card??? What am I ment to check all other threads so I don't re-create a thread. The ban is that I can not start a thread for a week. Trying to keep my head up but it is very hard!:D

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

If Riddell don't use him like they should he may not progress as much this year. Hope I'm wrong and the young fella becomes the main target at half-forward ahead of Power, Meacham, Harrison and Mick Allen.

I can see this a lot this year:

Glenn Robertson hitout to brother Peter -- shepherd from Sam Young -- kick to James Petran -- Petran wheels around and kicks high to goal square -- SPECKY to Lee James -- goal!

That forward line is very suspect.
James is a show pony, who needed to go back a level to be any good. Power is an old hack who will not touch the footy ( if he plays.)
Meacham is the same as James
And Mick Allen is as fat as me ( Retired back pocket player who eats 6 Pies a day).
I hope Petram is as good as you say, because I believe the same result will occur. Hawks by 4 goals:p

Hey Wceagles - where have you been - missed you since last November. I was thinking of getting a drum set like the bloke from Redan and following Riddell around.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Seeing as no one wants to post their sides, I'll have a crack

This is how I think Riddell will line up in 2008

FF: Mark Power, Lee James, Mick Allen
HF: Chris Meacham, James Petran, Leigh Harrison
C: Ryan Leitch, Sam Young, Aaron Blade
HB: Paul Murden, Jason Allen, Mark Peatling
B: Nick Ash, Brayden Allen, Murray McDougall

Foll: Glen Robertson, Peter Robertson, James Climas
Int: Mick Burnett, Leigh Coles, Justin Belleville, Tim McDonald

Pretty good Matt, pretty damn good !
Who says you dont do your research pal ?

Yeah does his research about the teams and players he loves!! I dont argue that he does his research! I thought Matt is the roving reporter of the RDFL? Not the roving reporter for Riddell or Kilmore. I want to hear about the other teams in the RDFL. Macedon, Diggers, Lancefield, Melton, Rockbank... Or are these teams too boring to hear about?

Did you bribe IMS with bourbon cans to get him to like you kings? I wish I thought of it first.
I dont kow how your doing to deal with a no new thread for a week ban. I wish you best of luck trying to contain yourself from creating a new alias  just to maintain your new thread addition.
