Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

is there any players from last years 18s playing in senior teams this year?

Not u/18s but did hear that Lee James is heading to Port Douglas in June. Just before clearances close. Nice three months in the tropics. Apparently has exchange within his work so would good for a short stint. Good luck to him.:)

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Former RDFL General Manager and umpire Ray Hocking is running the show up Cairns way these days and word has it, he is running an RDFL reserves game on the weekend while he is in town. Bad luck for those two teams!!!

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Hey Iceman/Dwyane great numbers at Greenhill Reserve tonight, at a quick count I got to 65, obvioulsy 18's included but the session seemed pretty intense with plenty of match simulation stuff. Time will tell how the Maggies will stack up but for me there were plenty of fit bodies, skills looked good and even some of the older lads appear better for doing a big pre-season.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Prediction of rain this weekend. hopefully it hits the grounds especially on the westside! sunbury (its concrete) and rockbank need it but the question is...
does it change the slim odds offered on Picklebet?
Want to know fellas, is there a chance for an upset this weekend and who would you predict it will come from?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

whats Kearney's role guna be at Romsey this year? will he sit at full forward like at Wakool or...?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Matt,

Just a quick question.. Seeing as though you receive plenty of info from around the Kilmore camp and you have no bias toward them, I would have thought that surely by now you would have posted the news that the Blues have in the end convinced Mo Kaakour to come to Kilmore??? Surely?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

RDFL Round 1

Itsmypredictions..

Woodend/Hesket Vs Riddell
The Grand Final rematch, since the final siren of last years Grand Final we have all been waiting for this game. The Bombers have recruited thier collective butts off over the off season to ensure that the lost season last year is wiped from exsistance in 2008. Lee James, Chris Meacham, Sam Young, Mark Power, its an impressive list of names that have come into the Bomber lineup. Rumours of Dean Besanko retiring and the loss of Heath Wadden for at least half the season will do little to impact the side, the recruits will more than cover these losses. The Bombers will come out firing this week, have no doubt. The Hawks have gone along quietly over the off season. I did notice that it was stated that the Hawks only loss over the preseason was that of Daniel Salpietro, but dont underestimate the loss of Dale Cuinik, he was fantastic during the finals series, as was Salpietro, two players that will be tough for the Hawks to cover, but they have a good group of youngsters coming through thanks to the Under 18 premiership side. The Hawks will again be right up there this year, but to call last years premiers the barometer is a mistake, they are clearly in the same boat as everyone else. A long way behind the Bombers.
Riddell by 46 points.

Diggers Rest Vs Sunbury Kangaroos
The Calder rivalry is back again to kick off the RDFL season. Both clubs have been quiet over the off season preparing themselves for another assault on this years flag. Diggers have Arnel Davis returning to the club, one of the most dangerous forwards in the league when fit, he will no doubt cause issues to many an RDFL backline in 08, with Jeff Heritage, Shaun Sims and Cole Laurie fit and flying, the Burra will be a contender in 08. The Roos have lost Dan Bonnici and gained a couple of handy players over the off season, although ground issues have hampered the Roos, they will again be a contender in 2008. With a few injuries it will be interesting to see how the Roos respond in Round 1.
Sunbury Kangaroos to win.

Wallan Vs Rockbank
Will be an interesting opener to the season for both of these sides. The recruiting of Dave Innella for the Rams was a huge coup, Dave is a proven goalkicker in the RDFL. While the Magpies were happy to welcome Dave Cornish back into the fold when he decided to return. Both sides are a little unknown, as long as the Rams held onto thier lineup from 07 they are sure to improve on 07. Matt Krul, Luke Walker and Dylan Nicholson will be key players in the Rams lineup this year. Wallan moved the ball well when I saw them a couple of weeks ago. Hayden Langbourne was impressive, Blake Whiteway and Matt Gibson are key players from all reports. With Daff Fowler and Cornish up forward they will be tough to top in this one.
Wallan by 48 pts.

Kilmore Vs Melton Central
Kilmore has been pushing over the break to recruit as many players as they could for a run at the flag in 08. Carroll and Sapiano are big units who look like good pickups for the Blues, Mo Kaakour is a ball winner who, if he plays will cause Centrals all sorts of headaches. Matt Robertson is a proven performer in the comp and when on borders on unstoppable. Travis Hede was impressive over the preseason and Adam Goudge is a star.
Centrals started the preseason with a bang, but have since gone a bit quiet. They have genuine stars in Kane Bullen and Brian Wheelahan and Rick Scott is a great pickup for them. Centrals will be looking at being big improvers in 08 and when the whole side puts in a disciplined effort they are a tough side to beat. I think that early in the year we could have an upset and this will be it.
Centrals by 8 pts.

Romsey Vs Lancefield
The early predictions of a Romsey slide may have been misplaced as the Redbacks have recruited well after the loss of Morgan and Brady and look to have covered areas that they may have lacked in last year. From all reports Baker is impressive and will add to a dangerous forward line already containing Steve Burlak and Cam Dawson. The Redbacks will be a strong contender this year.
The Tigers have also recruited well over the off season, looking to take another step this year. Ben Talbot is an RDFL team of the year player and is a great recruit for the Tigers. With Collins, Choate and Shewan in the midfield and Talbot and Scotty Smithwick up forward the Tigers are in good shape for the year.
Romsey by 33 pts.

Macedon FC - Bye

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Adam will play mostly centre and rest forward

Will be an enforcer in the middle and almost unstoppable up forward. He will be rested as required and play a large role being a general on the field. He will be a good changing partner for Matt McLellan. When up forward he will sit off to the side of Adrian Baker. Big, strong and skillfull, will be very difficult to stop no matter where he plays.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Any news on injuries or players unable to play this weekend due to injuries, suspension etc. There was talk from a poster last week that there were a few players missing this week from a few sides. Anyone?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I am tipping the bye in a close one.

Harsh KA... But I think the Cats might surprise a few of the Naysayers this year... :thumbsu:

Yeah doona we did have good numbers last night which we have had all pre season. Last night our clubhouse was packed for selection night with all the 3 netball sides sticking around too and all captains being named. Everyone is on board and pumped for rnd 1 which is a complete contrast to the last couple of years where we had been struggling and just going through the motions in the diamond valley.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I am tipping the Bi in a close one.

Omni's Tips Rnd 1

Riddell to pull away from Woodend in the last quarter & win by 28pts.

Kilmore to prevail over Melton in a tight encounter by 14pts.

Romsey to get the points comfortably at home over Lancefield by 42pts.

Diggers to just go down to the Kangas in a tough contest by 3pts.

Wallan to have a triumphant return to the R.D.F.L. ranks, getting over Rockbank by 36pts.

& The Mighty Monkeys to $HIT in over the Hapless Blowflies !

Good Luck All.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Couldnt believe it last night when Pickles said Kilmore got rolled, anyone there give us a bit of a run down as there are no scores etc on the RDFL site yet?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

There seems to be problems with the sporting pulse websites as you cannot access number of them.

Correct, with it being Round 1 and a new and improved system it seems as it may have been overloaded a bit with data.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

The Roos had a 24 point win over Diggers, coming from 5 goals down and losing the entire midfield after halftime, fantastic effort from the young guys that had to step up. All in all, if you were a football supporter who went to watch 3 games at Diggers yesterday you would be well happy with the $6 you spent.. All 3 games were fantastic contests and mostly played in fantastic spirit... Well done to both clubs. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:
Believe that Wallan had a 15 point win after being 9 goals in front.
Centrals a big win over Kilmore, apparently Mr Wheelahan dominating the game. (Hate to say, but who picked that.. Oh, thats right, I did :p)
Riddell had an 8 goal win over Woodend.. What is happening down at Hawkland though?? I heard from people at the game that Sipthorp didn't show and in fact wont be playing this year??? I am hoping that info is incorrect....

Well done to everyone yesterday, its just great to have footy back.
