Both players were found guilty of minor misconduct in which they left the field of play, the charge carries a 1 week suspended sentence, which is what both players received... The tribunal was not deferred, it was held..

Do you have an opinion on the outcome??

Surprised not to have heard from OMI this week.

This means that if 2 apposing players have a problem with each other on the field they can jump the fence ,punch the crap out of each other .Return to the field and get a 1 week suspended sentence.

Wow... I must have made the decision...

The umpires downgraded the charge to Minor Misconduct, the penalty carries a 1 week suspended sentence.. The tribunal deliberated, found the players guilty.. 1 week suspended sentence the punishment.. What you have described above is a totally different scenario.. Not everything is as cut and dry as you seem to think it is at this point in time, there was quite a bit more to the situation than that.. Should they have been suspended.. Probably.. Did they.. No.. They were punished per the correct punishment for the charge.

My opinion is...... They did they wrong thing and should be rightly punished.. There was quite a bit to the story though.. The people that should be punished are the spectators..... FROM BOTH SIDES (dont want to incur the wrath of Bit of Balance) that were involved.. But the players were charged with Minor misconduct and received the set penalty for the charge, so yes, I agree with it to a point.

Having a league boss state that neither player threw a punch was further justification as to why they were given suspended sentances. Also the players were hit with a massive $60 fine to make them think twice about fence jumping. There maybe a fund raiser this Sunday at Lancefield to help them out.

So that puts an end to the Umpires reporting of the incident, and that is all they are accountable for. However, is the RDFL looking (with their Investigations Officer) at the whole incident and can we expect to hear other charges from this process?

Yes... There will...

What a disgrace! This league and its tribunal have just made another massive mistake. Regardless of the events leading up, it has now officially set a precedent that it is ok for players to run off the ground during a match to get involved in a fight. They would not get off this charge anywhere else in Australia. Full stop. Dont reply with bullsh.t about how they were heroes to do what they did or how it was morally correct. They crossed the line (literally) & should have copped a suspension to match.
Until this incident i thought this forum was generally an accurate & fair opinion based outlet but many of you have lost me in your biased & hysterical rants.

Absolute rubbish.. This is officially the biggest rant of them all.. Why didn't you submit a detailed account of the incident to the league if you have all the facts to make an assumption of the event?? Why, because you dont have all the details.. The FACT is, they didn't get off the charge, they were found guilty and given the appropriate set penalty for the charge that they were found guilty of... As for precedent.. How has there been a precedent set for a penalty that already exists? Talk about bias.. Your post is biased and hysterical.. Hopefully you have decided that you wont be returning to the thread, it is better off without you.

I do not profess to be totally knowledgeable here but my understanding is the umpire’s jurisdiction is within the field of play. The only breach they can report is leaving the field of play. Hence my question before as to whether the RDFL’s Investigations Officer was reviewing the incident. The RDFL has far more jurisdiction than the umpires when it comes to any form of off field incidents - and that's what it was.
So far everything appears to be following the process - the RDFL is correct!

The umpire can report for engaging in a melee if a player leaves the field of play, the umpire withdrew his report for striking a spectator.. The only charges that needed to be heard was leaving the field of play.
The RDFL is conducting an investigation on the incident, but it will unlikely involve the players involved any further. That incident has been heard and dealt with.

Good! If anything has come out of this, I expect the Spectators will be well behaved this weekend and hopefully into the future. Clubs have a strong accountability here, it is too easy to point the finger at the RDFL when the Clubs should have control over THEIR supporters.

Interesting decision. Good points about what the upms can and can't charge players with who is responsible for what aspects of control. The point made about the RDFL following its processes is well put and very important.
Hopefully now we can see the best the league's got both on and off the field on the weekend. Good to see everyone a bit more pleasant towards each other today.
I'm not really a "wrathful" person!

Game previews on the RDFL website...

They are pretty good.. Except can we please instruct writers that a previous game in which you were not the victor becomes a LOSS not a LOSE..

:D:p

We can't all be as good as me :D

Well, he is actually a little better than you.. A touch below me, but definitely better than you...
