Was a great contest (not such a great game) which Ballarat won by 5 points over Darley after they converted a goal from a mark about 45 meters out after the final siren.
They even managed to stage a great brawl after the 3rd quarter siren no more than 10 meters right in front of us !
Huge crowd up there too.
Our very own chiefton will be a shattered man then tonight.
OMNI, can you please keep a close eye on him? They say the first 24 hours are the most critical.

Riddell won by 50-odd points. Close all day but Riddell got the jump on Diggers early in the 4th and it was all over.

Another year over and well done to Macedon 3rds, Woodend 2's and Riddell Seniors. As an unbiased spectator at todays game, (i follow another league, but have an iterest in he RDFL) it was a good close game as a spectatre to watch but the umpiring was by far the worst i have ever seen at a local game. It was almost as if the umpires were trying to keep Diggers in the game for as long as they could? Yes i understand they do the best they can, etc, etc, and its hard enough to attract people to do the job as it is, but today was border line on cheating. Today was the worst umpiring exhibiton i have ever seen at a local game that comes to mind, and i have seen a few in my time. I think in the end the best team for the year won, but they had a massive fight on their hands, not just against the opposition, to the end. I love watchng local footy, but i hope i never have to experience an umpiring exhibiton like that again! ( it did make the game interesting to watch though!!! )
All reports suggest it was a ripping game and I'm shattered that I missed it.
Considering it was an old fashioned shoot-out, I'm surprised that Diggers Rest went with the Bombers for so long.
My personal opinion was the Burra needed to keep it as low-scoring as possible.
How did Lancefield run the show, professional as always? Did they have those "club tents" like the RDFL wanted to implement months ago, or did they stick with the proven formula?
Congrats to Riddell, Woodend-Hesket and Macedon on the footy wins, and commiserations to all those who came off second best.
Great to see Petran really step up in the big dance. His second half of the year was simply awesome, and Riddell really need to hold on to him next season.
The Burra will be shattered losing Jose, I noticed Glenn Robertson was in the best so it could have made a big difference to the contest if their number one ruck was playing.
Also, just one special mention to Robbie Beatson. What an amazing coaching record he has down at the Cattery. I think its something like nine seasons for just two or three grand finals missed.
Yes, he has had some terrific sides over the years, but also a couple of "lesser" sides and been able to turn them into some handy footballers.
If all the players that Beats brought through at Under 18 level stayed at Macedon, the Cats would be the strongest side in it.
Anyway, I better do some work, its already 30 degrees outside!

Well done to Scooter and the Riddell football club. Great year coming off the back of last years result. Also to Wally and the Woodend 2's. Enjoy the celebrations.

I dont know what game you were at but what a load of Rubbish to suggest that umpires keep diggers in the game is a joke . diggers rest played very good football and throughully deserved to be close at 3 qtr time. Let me Congratulate riddell for a good win too many stars on the Day and didnt catch who got BOG but from the game i watched it had to be S. young or Petran surely

was interseting to see that a diggers player gave the finger to the crowd and got a weeks suspension for it, maybe he should have jumped the fence and punched on with the crowd, he would have only got a suspended sentence.

There have been some vicious rumours circulating about me since I have left. There are some I have probably not heard so I can't say they are all untrue, but all the ones that I have heard have been incorrect thus far. Certainly have had no police contact me, that's for sure!

I'd expect that sort of comment from a Digger's supporter billylid, as im assuming you are. I spoke to 5 or 6 nuetral people who all said the same thing. Umpiring was a disgrace. Pathetic to be honest!! ( And i did hear far worse than that coming from other clubs supporters )

I rang a couple of sources last night to track down copies of Sunday's grand finals. Was told that the league didn't organise anyone to film them? Is that correct? If so, that is a disgrace. Before I left I was under the impression that our good friends at Red Onion were going to video the senior grand final at the very least. Did anyone do amateur filming?

surely after Sunday everybody must admit that Lancefeild would be the premier venue in the comp. Plenty of parking, Fantastic surface, and plenty of room for all spectators to have a gig. The Venue at the moment would be the best, perhaps sharing the sources of income with all clubs and the profits needs to be done. I'm happy for it to be at Lancefield but i only ask why should they be guaranteed a massive profit every year.
