Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Some clubs are not "media friendly"

Matt - I am a little bewildered by that line of your post. You would think it would be in the clubs best interest that they get all the exposure through the papers and internet they could. If you don't any assistance from some clubs you can use big footy as a avenue to embrass them into action. :D

Sloth out

It's their choice, I think I'm the only person from the media who not only reports but comments on RDFL happenings, so clubs are more wary of me in particular. It's not best to try and embarrass the clubs for not co-operating either, my experience says. Deservedly, I got a bit of a "Mark Williams 'You were wrong' spray" last year, but that comes with the territory. In the last couple of weeks I've actually been contemplating my future too. It wasn't until about 2am this morning when I decided that I love my job and I want to continue doing it and thrive.

Also Van, would have love to have bought you boys an ale last night but the pineapple I had in my wallet went into the Terang quaddie. You shoulda backed the tip I got - would have paid for a round or three.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Here's one for you people...............
With the impending start to the season fast approaching, clubs will be seeking to have practice matches. Given this.........
How would it go if Sunbury, Gisborne & Riddell... or Woodend played each other in a Tri Series ?
One game at each clubs venue.
Plenty of local support & relevance, ( huge crowds one would think ), charge a nominal fee admission, run a canteen & bar ( great drinking weather time ).
Clubs make a $, spectators get to see some tallented local footballers running around, coaches & players get an invaluable hitout against quality opposition, & everyone does'nt have to travel miles..............................
Everybody Wins !

I'de pay to see this............ Anyone else ?

I’de pay to see this, anyone else with me ?

I'm with you Omni. That's a great idea. Given that I'll be watching from the sidelines for a fair portion of the year I might as well get some practice in early myself. My right arm needs to get a bit stronger before I can play again so lifting cans to my mouth is a great way to exercise:D

I'm pretty sure Sunbury and Gisborne already play a practice match every year, have been to watch a few of them and they are great for the players and spectators, but I would have to say having played for one of these teams before and now also playing for an R.D.F.L team, I personally don't think the likes of Riddell or Woodend would stand a chance, far to much difference between leauges as in strength and money for overall number of quality players, by no means am I having a dig at the RDFL because it is improving rapidly every year, I just don't think it would do any of the teams any good to get flogged (Riddell V Sunbury "04")

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I had a similar idea last year .. but it was actually played over 2 weekends and shortened halves/quarters ... reason being shortened is that 3 games would be played each day, the 3rd week a winner is decided ...clubs would rely on talent and luck rather than fitness and intense stategy that these more powerful clubs have perfected ...

Teams that would participate would be in the sunbury area hosted at clarke oval, due to so many existing clubs in the region... Sunbury,Sunb. Kangas,Diggers Rest,Riddell,Rupertswood,Cragieburn, gisborne,Woodend and throw in a Melton South or Bloods would all be matched against each other in knockout form ... still other teams such as darley/romsey/pascoe vale/airport west/baccus marsh to consider also

The novelty of the whole idea I think would generate a BUCKETLOAD of money for all clubs for 3-4 years until the eveness starts to deterioate .. but for now,Good rivalries in there and a chance for the guys to come up against some new opponents ..

Its a " Practice " match ! who cares who wins ?
These games give the Coaches & Players a chance to work out their weaknesses & strengths.
Who ever goes 100% in practice matches anyway ? The last thing you want is an injury leading into the season proper !

Doesn't the Ballarat league already have a lightning premiership for its teams plus one other. They break the teams into 4 groups and play each other with that group. The winner of each group then go onto the semi final and winners go to the final.

The RDFL could do something similar at Boardman with the 11 RDFL teams and 1 EDFL B grade side e.g. Sydenham Hillside ? It wouldn't take that much to organise ?

Better let you know early I don't think I could play in that match mate, still recovering from the ankle so you may need to find a gun from another league to fill my possie:D:p

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Do you think that the BFL teams are over the novelty of the idea? Are they only playing teams within the BFL? If so, I'll get bored playing the same old teams all the time. But if the RDFL can incorporate teams outside its league into a competition... I honestly believe the league is going places so am also a big fan of promoting the league in any shape or form.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Just also, I would think that the league would look after all clubs in the RDFL first. What's the point of the Riddell, Sunbury, Kilmore benefiting financially from a proposal and not let Macedon, Rockbank or Melton benefit as well? It's not just about promoting the big wigs fellas!

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

just wondering if anyone here can tell me what position james duffy from kilmore plays???

Half back flank

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I am sick of melton members it talking up. every year the same stuff where going be this good where going be that good . but at the end of the day ya just guna be stuck down the end of the ladder where you belong!!!!!!!!!.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Don't know if they are pumping themselves up burnerboy, maybe they are just a little excited about how their club is going. Why the hostility? How is your club going?
