Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

both have been romsey boys for life surely they wouldnt leave would they???? Sullivan hard nut , harrison classy in and under player.

Danny Harrison is probably the best young talent I've seen play the game. His ability to win the ball and use it effectively under pressure is on par with those at the top of the game in the RDFL. He is a little light on for size but he makes up for it in heart and courage. I rate this kid on par with Luke Edwards at around the same age. Luke Edwards was the youngest player to win a Bowen Medal at 19.

Ben Sullivan has all of the ability required to be in the very top echelon of the RDFL or surrounding leagues within 1-2 seasons. He has bulked up a bit over the off season and is still finishing in the top 2 or 3 when doing road runs at training. His skills are clean and nature in which he attacks the ball completes the package. He has already been touted as being "Captain" material.

These two guys are the type of players that you can build a side around. I would like to think that Romsey will do everything within it's power to hold onto these guys as they are very much required players and will be the future of the club for the next 10 or so years. I would never begrudge either of them leaving the club to further their footballl in a better league. Having said that I would hate to see them leave the club.

Of course you couldn't begrudge them leaving to futher their football, but surely they would do it by going to a club where they can develop... Kyneton has a reputation of not being able to develop...

From my information:

Definitely playable: Kilmore, Wallan, Lancefield, Romsey, Riddell, Woodend, Diggers Rest.

Possible for R1:
Macedon, Sunbury Kangaroos.

Definitely not: Rockbank, Melton Central.

The Kangaroos ground will depend on when the council gets the irrigation installed.. Will only take 3 or so weeks to get the ground up to speed after that.. The Roos are not at home Round 1, so will need to be ready for Round 2.

Spot on Harry in your assessment of these 2 boys, they are Guns.
Your club needs to leave no stone unturned in retaining young talent of their Calibre & If Romsey were to lose 2 such players it could turn out to be a real Watershed Moment for the Redbacks going forward !
Good Luck with it all boys.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

theres a couple of fairly big signings ready for Wallan. Some old players have come back into the fold and some new blood is signed on as well. Cant wait for first game cause the club is buzzing. Only been around club for a year but it best atmosphere I have felt since being here. The ground will be ready for the year.

Is Scott or Grant Cameron training with Wallan. Grant said that he was considering returning to the Maggies and also said that Scott was a definate to be playing.
Both where real good footballers in juniors, and i asume would be handy pick ups now days.:thumbsu:

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

We're not to sure at the moment as we may clash with the bloods due to BFL fixture still to be finilised.

I do have to say i enjoyed playing on the Bloods ground last year it was in superb condition. Would be nice if the council put some money into improving the Centrals ground, as well as the away rooms!!!

Most definatley, the big ground is good to play on. We wish the council would spend some money as well, although the away rooms are no worse than the home rooms.

Beggers cant be chooses

Surely you jest . . . . that's a lot of coin. Be surprised if the Blues have ever paid out that kinda figure

Is $600 per game a lot of coin these days? I hear the Lee James will be on the recieving end of approx $900 per game. James is worth the coin if he kicks 100 goals and the boys take home the silverware. Having said that, this Mo Kaakour is sposedly being talked up to win the Bowen and to guide Kilmore to September glory. If he's only on $600 they've got them selves a bargain. Then again with all of the recruits said to join the Blues this year perhaps that's all they could afford to pay him, either way $600 large in your skyrocket for 2 hours work on Saturday for doing something you'd probably do for free anyway is a pretty good deal.

Good on any player who can get a good quid I say, reallistically they only get offered what a club deems they are worth to their organisation. I was perhaps thinking there wasn't big spending in the RDFL, but I guess as the standard rapidly improves it must occur at a cost. As a rough figure, if the better players in your comp do get $600, $700, $800 a week, what would overall club playing budgets be? Do u all have a base sum per senior player etc. From memory my mob's entire expenditure on playing/coaching last season was around low to mid $30k - again just after a guide as to where we sit in all this as our rivals/HDFL top sides spend a $hitload more than that?

the money this fella is getting and what people assume lee james is getting is irrelevant.its really no-one elses business what they are getting.to command that sort of money they are obviously worth it.all the better for the rdfl to have class running around there again.
great to see the likes of wallan, kilmore and centrals excited about the season ahead.go roos

for my club theirs insentive payments, 1-5 best on get some cookies. As for paid players last year the coach and one player got something everyweek (as far as i'm aware) but where inelligible for the insentives.
