The fact of the matter is, Clubs don't have people 'ON THE IN'. They apply for final by way of tender, then they are notified if they are successful or not. So don't make baseless accusations, if you are not prepared to or can't justify them with answers!!!!!!

Who decides what tenders are succesful ???????

diggers need a win way more and i think they will win pretty easily against centrals- 5 goals
broadford v rockbank will go either way - if rams play 4 quarters they will scrap in by 10 points.
lancefield v sunbury will be a great match, prob tigers too strong- 3 goals
riddell v wallan be another close one with riddell being too fit for the full 4 quarters- 18 points.wallan big chance if they hit hard!
romsey should keep up good form against woodend- 4 goals
macedon will account for kilmore at home by 5 goals

fair?

can we get some tips for this week....

My tips for round 17...

-Diggers to beat Centrals and grab a spot back in the top 6.. Diggers by 46 points
-Rockbank to beat Broadford for their first win away from home in a close one.. Rams by 3 points
-Lancefield at home should be too strong for Sunbury.. Tigers by 24 points
-Riddell to bounce back with a win over Wallan.. Bombers by 58 points
-Romsey should beat Woodend at home quite easily... Romsey by 35 points
-And finally Macedon should be to good for Kilmore at home.. Macedon by 41 points..
Goodluck to all.. have a great weekend

Its not being childish. If you go to an auction and bid on a Ferrari and lose, they don't give you a Ford Falcon as a consolation.

Macedon put in a tender for a prelim only. Why should they be forced to host a semi when they didn't ask for one? The Cats are not bitter about missing out on a prelim, they just don't know how the RDFL can try and force them into hosting something they didn't put their hand up for.

As for the 5 or 6 years ago stuff, I agree the RDFL helped them out. But too much water has gone under the bridge to keep referring back to those days.

Are we going to get to a stage in 2021 where the RDFL are still trying to use that to barter with them? I think not. The league is different now, the club is different and it should be forgotten.

Hey Matt of course they are bitter any club would be its a prelim and would attract a huge crowd and sales more than a semi would make

No actually, they are not.

Because they got the interleague they decided to throw their hat into the ring for the prelim on the off chance that no one else did. The Cats knew it was unlikely they would get it. But to knock them back and then give them a semi, something they stated they didn't want to host due to logistical problems, smacks of stupidity.

How do you know ? Are you a mind reader ? Do you know for a FACT that Board Members are not putting their club of origins interest ahead of that of the League ???
I dont ! I just asked the question ? I made no accusations whatsoever ! (I cant be held responsible for your lack of inteligence or failing eyesight) Because their decision is completely mind boggling in this particular case. And I'd like to maybe understand how they could come up with it.

Here is another question for you......... Is the tender process transparent & open to scrutiny ? & another..... Who are the Board Members, & what are their Origins ? Particularly pertinent with this issue I would have thought !
I looked on the RDFL web site, & for the life of me I cant find their names anywhere ! Why not ? Whats the big secret ?

Matts car auction analogy was spot on.
Why was Macedon given a Final they neither wanted nor tendered for ?
This is not how a professional organisation is run surely ?
Footy is a business, the RDFL is a business, & should be run accordingly.

You seem to be in the know, perhaps you could furnish us with the names of the Board Members & clubs of Origin & then we can all make up our own minds on this subject ?

Here’s another few questions for you Mr Observer

I just had a quick look at this seasons Draw &….. How does a club get to play only ONE home fixture in the last SIX weeks of the season ? Presumably so that their ground will be in the best possible condition to host a final I spose ! Why ? Especially if there are NO guarantees of getting one. &
How is a Club, any club able to manipulate the Draw ? Who signed off on that ?
Can any Club ask to play no home games in the last six weeks of the season ?
If so, I’d be suggesting that a Smart Club or Coach ask to play ALL (or as many as they could get away with) games at home in the early half of the Season. Given “home ground advantage” & all, win em all, sit atop the ladder, then coast home in the latter half defeating teams that don’t have a chance & breaking even with those that do….. Perfect !

Why is ONE Club getting this Favour ?

Who is responsible for the RDFL draw ?

I think you will find clubs can make suggestions towards the draw, Sunday games, Anzac games, no home games etc. The General Manager would be responsible for the draw, that is then passed by the clubs,.
It would then be the RDFL Board responsible for allocating finals.
I would say that if a club requested 4 away games they are being clever and doing what ever they can to improve their chances of hosting a final.
Pros and Cons, they may have a large con and need to add a Pro.:p

Woodend put in a request after discussion with other clubs to swap some games from start of year to home games.

This was done because coming off cricket season our ground is in better nick than most others as we have water over the summer, others need the winter rains and are in better nick in the second half than they were in the first half.

Woodend have done this as has Macedon for past 3 years. Its called smart ground management. And yes it does help with preserving our ground for finals.

Check the fixture again and you will see Macedon do it too!!!!

Last years final was a freak of nature, we had 2 inches of rain in 45 min. I dont think anyone could argue that in 2007 our ground wasnt up to scratch.

If Macedon had same rain last year it would have been a bog heap too!!!

For the record i think Prelim should be at Macedon

Romsey lucky to come away with the points today. Hard to believe they knocked off Lancefield and Riddell with what they displayed today. Number 48 (McNAUGHTEN I think) for Romsey put in a blinder. Richmond and Kearney very ordinary. Third quarter nearly cost Romsey. Knox all class for Woodend.

Macedons ground is allready a bog heap played there yesterday and all the rain they are getting there at the moment it will be a quagmire

So it seems

1. Macedon have NOT been getting the concessions in the draw Woodend have.
2. This is a new & unique feature to this seasons draw.
3. You tell lies !!!!

Let me also state THIS......... This is not a contest between Woodend & Macedon, this is about

1. Why is the integrity of the Draw being compromised for ONE Clubs benifit ?
2. Why are sub-standard venues being given Finals ?
3. & What the hell is going on in the tender process ?

Well if Macedons ground is in fact a "bog Heap" now.... Woodends will be A huge sodden shifting sponge, just waiting for something or someone to break through the surface & release the tidal wave of muck that lies beneath.

This time of year you cannot run on top of that surface...... You move through it(Slowly). &........ It affects the standard of...... well lets call it "Footy", thats played there ! ..... Poo !

A question...

Do others have the same opinion that this season has seen a shift in the mentality of free kicks being paid for head high contact??

Yesterday was a prime example again, both sides had players that were contacted when they had thier head over the football yet the call was play on.. I have tended to stay away from umpiring decisions or the way games are umpired on here, but I have a certain degree of concern now that a serious injury is going to occur within our league if the hard line that has been taken in the RDFL, that is, contact, any contact, with the head is an automatic free kick, no ifs, no buts, no maybe's. If there is head high contact, a free kick most definitely SHOULD be paid in my opinion, it is the one rule change that I think the AFL has got right in recent times and it should most definitely be cascaded down through our competition. My view, I would rather see a free kick paid for head high contact that not, even if there is doubt on the contact, I would like to see umpires take the view that the person with his head over the football always has the benefit of the doubt, rather than the onus of "you ducked your head" which seems to be the line we take, the only time a person ducked is when they are standing upright with the ball and bend to put thier head down... Bring back the high tackle and protection for the player making the play.... :thumbsu:

Again, this is not a reflection on just yesterday's game, this is my opinion based on what I have seen all year...

maybe you could write a letter to the league and ask them instead of clogging up the thread with your anti woodend tirades
