IMS tough time of year to do a review. The hawks should shape up ok, Knox, Cook and Else are three good additions, a couple still up in the air, Sippy a definite out and looks as though Lace will be unlikely add Johnno, massive holes to fill there. Hopefully our kids step up like a few did last year and a few from the 2nds flag get a chance to see if there up to it.

Cant even start on the other teams, Macedon will improve, Diggers were super impressive in the finals series and Roo will only improve them. The team strategy against Wittmar used to be to kick it wherever his wasnt. Can see it being a really even top 6 this year.

Based on the clearances I've seen, whispers heard and the run of play over the last few seasons, this is my ladder. (Please note this ladder indicates positions before finals).

Wallan - Think this is the Pies' season. They have picked up strongly, their losses are minimal and they have a winter of RDFL footy under their belts. Mark Pedersen hates losing and has picked up players to fix that. Have a big home ground advantage and weren't far off the mark in most matches in 2008. Player to watch: Matt Gibson (injuries prevented the RDFL from seeing his best in 2008).

Riddell - Hard to see Riddell dropping off too much this year even though they have lost 60% or more of their premiership side. The key player has to be Meacham, assuming he stays at the club. With Slugga leaving he has the opportunity to stand out as the number one RDFL forward. Power will have some recruits up his sleeve so don't expect to see clearances lodged until the eve of round one. Player to watch: Leigh Harrison (could kick 50 senior goals this year).

Diggers Rest - Although their losses are significant, especially with the departure of Jose, they have already recruited well and certainly will have the cattle this year to win the flag. Jose leaving could be a blessing in disguise for the Burra, who will now be able to develop or recruit a ruck capable of playing in the GF. The rest of the team will no doubt be bouyed by that. Player to watch: Steve Ruane (should come back much more rounded after a stint in the GVFL).

Lancefield - There was a lot to like about the Tigers last year, they were young, they played some exciting football and should only get better with another year under their belts. No major losses to date and with Dorman and Waters expected to pull the boots on again after pre-Xmas rumours suggesting they were leaving. Player to watch: Dorman (who else :p).

Macedon - The Cats showed signs of improvement last year and should again make the finals this season. New coach, new assistant and the same positive attitude should see them push for a top four position. The kids will only get better with the extra pre-season and there aren't too many veterans so the Cats should be able to finish the year strongly. Player to watch: Al Collins (was called a squib by many last year but I'm backing him in for a big one.

Woodend-Hesket - Always thereabouts, the Hawks should again make the finals this year. Have a few losses but have also recruited to cover them so shouldn't be a big difference in overall personal. I think the Woodend boys lack a little bit of on-field leadership so I'm expecting Podbury, Kar Weng (if he plays), and Waz Else to have more of a presence with the younger players this winter. Of course Cook and Brad Else will bring that bit extra to the table. Player to watch: Matt Knox (Forget Cook, he's old and will struggle to get around at Gilbert Gordon. Knox is tall, young, has tons of ability and can play all around the ground. Expect a Waters-like debut year in the RDFL).

Broadford - The Roos will probably have the talent to make the finals in their first year, but I expect them to be a bit like what Wallan were last year and struggle in some games simply because they won't know their opposition. Doona will do his homework but not even Kevin Sheedy could work out exactly how to line up on every RDFL club. Mick McGuane is the only coach I've seen come close in a debut year. Expect big things from Lawrence Angwin who have I have told is playing at Harley Hammond Reserve. Player to watch: Grant Wearne (By far the Roos' most consitent player. Can play CHF, CHB or ruck and is likely to float between those spots all season).

Sunbury Kangaroos - Here we go again. I'm writing of the Roos. Again. You know what? They'll probably make the finals. Again. But this year I'm confident they'll just fall short. Losing James House is a massive loss which no side could cover. Steve James and Sutherland went okay in the ruck and will also be missed, but the Roos will no doubt be searching the VFL for another star midfielder/forward/centre-half-back. Player to watch: Gav Sporle (knowing the gap that's been created by House, Itsmyshow is said to be pulling the boots back on to lead the Roos out of the shit).

Kilmore - Not much hype about the Blues this summer and probably because there isn't a lot expected after they flopped last season. I think Kilmore will be very competitive and could even make the finals with several key inclusions, but don't seemed to have picked up any gun midfielders, which has been their problem for several seasons. Player to watch: Robbie Wittmer (He's very good. Won a Bowen when he was still basically a kid and a return home should rejeuvenate him).

Melton Central - Unfortunately for the Centrals the loss of Chugg is going to hurt them a lot. Wheelahan and Bullen can't do it all and unless James Hird pulls on the boots at MacPherson Park oval number two this year I can't see the Blues making the six. It is a same because they came such a long way in 2008. Player to watch: Mark Greenshields (rumours suggest the coach will risk long-term injury to pull the boots on again. Was an absolute gun in his hey day).

Romsey - The Redbacks are in a rebuilding phase at the moment after over a dozen players have left or retired (mostly the latter) from their 2003 premiership side. They could cause a few upsets but won't have any depth and will therefore struggle to be finals contenders. Player to watch: Cam Dawson (I think he'll stay at Romsey and this could be his year. Looked pretty good in 2008 and will only get better).

Rockbank
- Sorry Rams fans, I can't see you guys winning more games than any other side this year. That doesn't mean you won't win any games, but you'll struggle. Lack of funds, shit location (between burbs and Melton), and a poor history of win/loss ratios makes it hard to recruit players. Hopefully I'm horribly wrong and you win 6-7 games, but I think this could be the rare occassion I get something right :D Player to watch: Luke Walker (played with niggling injuries last year and is expected to be fully fit for a big 2009 season).

As usual pickles you no 3/5ths of nothing about football no wonder your up there on the run why isnt Lancefield on top you have pumped them up enough

Gee nicholls i would have to disagree with some of the stuff that you have said, but at least you have had a crack, nobody should criticize you for review unless they are willing to have a go themselves.
Well done :thumbsu:

Tell me what I've got wrong. Think you'll find my track record in predicting ladders has been close to the mark in recent seasons.

I love your comedic stylings... You know I love your work Matty... But your ladders in recent years in pre-seasons, have been, well, pathetic.. Bwahahahah... You even tipped Woodend to not only miss but miss by a long way 2 years ago, they won the flag... You didn't pick the Kangas at all in the first half of last year and you tipped Kilmore to finish 2nd last year....

No all good would like to see tigers up higher good recruits from Kyneton you didnt mention Ruffell and Erwin returning

Housey???

They've got Dorman, that's all they need!

Erwin and Benny John will be big ins. Don't know much about Ruffell.

IMS in 2008 I tipped the top six correctly bar one side and in 2007 I missed out on the Hawks. Fair call.

You know I'm always going to keep writing off the Roos because as soon as I get on their bandwagon they start losing. Couldn't have that now could we? :p

Where's the chiefton?
