Cant support more than one club or league now oh almighty one ?
Just when did this new Segregation Policy come in, I must have missed that directive !

My point... Once again... Is that someone that posts insulting and over the line posts on the BFL thread is not to be discussed on this thread, take it to the BFL thread...... Interloper.

Based on the clearances I've seen, whispers heard and the run of play over the last few seasons, this is my ladder. (Please note this ladder indicates positions before finals).

Wallan - Think this is the Pies' season. They have picked up strongly, their losses are minimal and they have a winter of RDFL footy under their belts. Mark Pedersen hates losing and has picked up players to fix that. Have a big home ground advantage and weren't far off the mark in most matches in 2008. Player to watch: Matt Gibson (injuries prevented the RDFL from seeing his best in 2008).

Riddell - Hard to see Riddell dropping off too much this year even though they have lost 60% or more of their premiership side. The key player has to be Meacham, assuming he stays at the club. With Slugga leaving he has the opportunity to stand out as the number one RDFL forward. Power will have some recruits up his sleeve so don't expect to see clearances lodged until the eve of round one. Player to watch: Leigh Harrison (could kick 50 senior goals this year).

Diggers Rest - Although their losses are significant, especially with the departure of Jose, they have already recruited well and certainly will have the cattle this year to win the flag. Jose leaving could be a blessing in disguise for the Burra, who will now be able to develop or recruit a ruck capable of playing in the GF. The rest of the team will no doubt be bouyed by that. Player to watch: Steve Ruane (should come back much more rounded after a stint in the GVFL).

Lancefield - There was a lot to like about the Tigers last year, they were young, they played some exciting football and should only get better with another year under their belts. No major losses to date and with Dorman and Waters expected to pull the boots on again after pre-Xmas rumours suggesting they were leaving. Player to watch: Dorman (who else :p).

Macedon - The Cats showed signs of improvement last year and should again make the finals this season. New coach, new assistant and the same positive attitude should see them push for a top four position. The kids will only get better with the extra pre-season and there aren't too many veterans so the Cats should be able to finish the year strongly. Player to watch: Al Collins (was called a squib by many last year but I'm backing him in for a big one.

Woodend-Hesket - Always thereabouts, the Hawks should again make the finals this year. Have a few losses but have also recruited to cover them so shouldn't be a big difference in overall personal. I think the Woodend boys lack a little bit of on-field leadership so I'm expecting Podbury, Kar Weng (if he plays), and Waz Else to have more of a presence with the younger players this winter. Of course Cook and Brad Else will bring that bit extra to the table. Player to watch: Matt Knox (Forget Cook, he's old and will struggle to get around at Gilbert Gordon. Knox is tall, young, has tons of ability and can play all around the ground. Expect a Waters-like debut year in the RDFL).

Broadford - The Roos will probably have the talent to make the finals in their first year, but I expect them to be a bit like what Wallan were last year and struggle in some games simply because they won't know their opposition. Doona will do his homework but not even Kevin Sheedy could work out exactly how to line up on every RDFL club. Mick McGuane is the only coach I've seen come close in a debut year. Expect big things from Lawrence Angwin who have I have told is playing at Harley Hammond Reserve. Player to watch: Grant Wearne (By far the Roos' most consitent player. Can play CHF, CHB or ruck and is likely to float between those spots all season).

Sunbury Kangaroos - Here we go again. I'm writing of the Roos. Again. You know what? They'll probably make the finals. Again. But this year I'm confident they'll just fall short. Losing James House is a massive loss which no side could cover. Steve James and Sutherland went okay in the ruck and will also be missed, but the Roos will no doubt be searching the VFL for another star midfielder/forward/centre-half-back. Player to watch: Gav Sporle (knowing the gap that's been created by House, Itsmyshow is said to be pulling the boots back on to lead the Roos out of the shit).

Kilmore - Not much hype about the Blues this summer and probably because there isn't a lot expected after they flopped last season. I think Kilmore will be very competitive and could even make the finals with several key inclusions, but don't seemed to have picked up any gun midfielders, which has been their problem for several seasons. Player to watch: Robbie Wittmer (He's very good. Won a Bowen when he was still basically a kid and a return home should rejeuvenate him).

Melton Central - Unfortunately for the Centrals the loss of Chugg is going to hurt them a lot. Wheelahan and Bullen can't do it all and unless James Hird pulls on the boots at MacPherson Park oval number two this year I can't see the Blues making the six. It is a same because they came such a long way in 2008. Player to watch: Mark Greenshields (rumours suggest the coach will risk long-term injury to pull the boots on again. Was an absolute gun in his hey day).

Romsey - The Redbacks are in a rebuilding phase at the moment after over a dozen players have left or retired (mostly the latter) from their 2003 premiership side. They could cause a few upsets but won't have any depth and will therefore struggle to be finals contenders. Player to watch: Cam Dawson (I think he'll stay at Romsey and this could be his year. Looked pretty good in 2008 and will only get better).

Rockbank - Sorry Rams fans, I can't see you guys winning more games than any other side this year. That doesn't mean you won't win any games, but you'll struggle. Lack of funds, shit location (between burbs and Melton), and a poor history of win/loss ratios makes it hard to recruit players. Hopefully I'm horribly wrong and you win 6-7 games, but I think this could be the rare occassion I get something right :D Player to watch: Luke Walker (played with niggling injuries last year and is expected to be fully fit for a big 2009 season).
heres a scoop for you, waz else aint playin this yr.

maybe you should start to be a little more relaxed ims, yes you have a job as a moderator so what , just because we mention a persons name on here were told we will be booted.
what a joke.
i have no doubt that the person whos name now we cant talk about did upset some people but to the majority i will think you will find that he was very amusing and he was a regular poster on the rdfl thread so why cant we mention him ?
think the power of being a mod has gone right to your head and you may need to lighten up and not be so serious all the time

ps if your so hell bent on making bigfoty a pristene clean enviroment perhaps you should run through some of the leagues that your a mod on and clean them up isnt that a part of being a mod on 244 different leagues? or is it just the rdfl forum your hoping to turn into a mothers club meeting ???

A fair bit fo guesses in there! also is anyone going to have another go at some Odds for the season i know matt nicholls usually does and, the top 50 players. although he cops a lot of shit for it - its makes pretty interesting reading!!!

Just on recruits fellas, were pretty pumped to have Cooky on board for this year. I think he could be a shot at the Bowen if woodsy have a good year he will stand out heaps.

If Cook can play to his form of 2005 he will win the Bowen with a leg in the air. But he is getting a bit long in the tooth. For Woodsy's sake and the standard of the RDFL it would be great to see him firing.

I'll post a top 50 and some odds, but seeing as the season doesn't start until April 18 I think I'll wait until the end of the month.

As is stands.. Ill have a go at my ladder...

Riddell - Yes, they have lost players. Yes, they lost half their side, but I think people are forgetting that the Bombers had several quality players in their reserves that would have walked into Senior footy at other clubs, they have recruited well. Are still the team to beat.

Wallan - Recruited well, were around the mark anyway last year. With a very good coach and more options up forward to help Cornish, the Magpies will be right up there this year.

Macedon - Another that has recruited well and have retained some key players on the list, believe that the Big Rig is staying and that his 2 brothers will be joining him. Looks like a convoy.

Woodend/Hesket - A couple of losses but the Hawks always find replacements, especially from within.. The kids will step up and ensure the Hawks are up there again.

Broadford - I think the other Roos will sneak in. Doona is a very good coach and a very talented young list. With the recruits that are coming in the other Roos while hard to pick will certainly be a team to beat.

Sunbury Kangaroos - Strong Pre-Season. a couple of players returning, the Roos will look for further improvement from younger guys in the side in 2009 and will get it.

Diggers Rest - The losses of Jose, Hoare and Walshe will hurt. Hard to judge where the Burra will be and I am loathe to write them off at all, I think it will come down to a minor handful of wins or losses that will decide spots 4 to 8.

Lancefield - Recruited some quality players so far but still probably lack 2 or 3 more. Will be in the same boat as the 4 sides above, throw a blanket over them.

Kilmore - The addition of Whittmer of course will strengthen them, but the Blues are going to need alot more from the players that are already on the list.

Romsey - Will be alot like last year. Any Romsey side could show up to the game. If they can add consistency they will add themselves to the finals mix and make spots 4 - 9 a toss up.

Rockbank - Will win enough games to not finish on the bottom in 2009. Christian Innella is a quality player, Scott Matthews returning is a boost and have a couple of other handy recruits running around.

Centrals - Sorry to the Centrals guys because I do like them all, but the loss of Chugg is a massive blow. Wheels will be the man for Centrals again, even though I think they will bottom out, they wont be that far away.

It is going to be the most evenly contested season we have seen for years. Predicting a ladder in 09 and getting it right is going to be a difficult process, even for the best predictors... I cant wait for the year to begin, it is one of the most exciting seasons of RDFL football that we have seen in a very long time. No longer will a lower placed side defeating a side in the top 6 be a massive upset, in fact, I think that while I called a blanket over positions 4 - 8, it could be as much as position 4 - 12 and that can only be good for all of us that enjoy attending and enjoying the most entertaining local league of all.... :thumbsu:

if you read through the posts about that it states that he has only been to training once there, doubt he will want to go to a side like that , they havnt won to many games over the last few years, my tip is that he will be lining up for broadford

i believe that the spots from 3-8 could basically go anyway its certainly going to be a very even year, every game will count this year were as i think in previous years you could maybe afford to drop a game or two and still make it, this year dropping that game or two will mean your watching come finals time, should be very interesting as to how the season pans out

....

in reality, diggers have only lost jose as hoare and walsh didnt play a single game of footy between them for all of 2008, with the return of former bowen medalist and no doubt a few recruits, the fact you've got them dropping from runners up in the grand final (and the only team to be within a goal of riddel at 3/4 time in any game) to missing finals is an absolute joke.
jose is great, but the big fella thompson shared the load with him all year in the ruck, they will be there or there abouts again his year.

just my opinon..

I will tell yous all right now, Lancefield will finish top 3 for sure and will most likely make it to that last day in september. They also have alot more then 2 new recruits. The house brothers, leigh erwin, brian ruffell, carrol from sunbury roos, rory healy only to name a few. They will be very competetive this year thats for sure!

one man who will be able to tell us for sure is doona , any chance you could shed some light on this topic for us doona ?

I'll see how I go

Obvioulsy Loz played at the club in I think 2005/06 before heading to South Cairns under Stevie Daniel in 2007 & a portion of 2008. At our club's AGM last September Laurie was one of the most vocal of the 90 odd people in the room about the move to the RDFL - he even put his hand up and was duly elected onto the club's committee. He has been along to a few training sessions but I know he wasn't present at last nights meeting. I too had heard about the Wyndhamvale thing, and the Longwood thing, and the cashed up Bonnie Doon thing . . . . . told me that he'd decide in March if he was even gunna have a kick so we will all know soon enough.

Yeah, um, let's make it to September first hey? I recall this time last year Kilmore were morals to play Riddell in the GF.

Umpires might have had something to do with the grand final. Think that is pretty well fact around here. Secondly, Jose never put in bad games. Might have been kept quiet for a quarter, but never played shit for a full game. MASSIVE loss. Thirdly, I said the ladder was prior to the finals. You know as well as I do that Hopkins trains his side ultra hard in the home and away season which can affect regular performances. He then lightens it off just before finals and the results stand for themselves. Fourthly, Riddell was 80+ points better than every side last year and they had good depth and some good kids and will recruit well. Fifthly and finally, I expect Wallan to take massive steps this year.

That is why I had Diggers Rest third.

I can't predict finals.

wyndhamvale coach is claiming that he signed a few weeks back, obviously angwin isnt the most reliable bloke

Per the WRFL thread there is an announcement that Angwin has definitely signed with the Vales...

As was mine, just an opinion, yet apparently mine is an absolute joke compared to yours.. I said, and will say again.. I think that any of the positions from 4th to 8th can be changed in any way, I am not having a shot at Diggers... I wrote "I am loathe to write them off", Jose is a massive massive loss, he is a bigger loss than any other on the Burra list with Sims the other... They may just be thereabouts again.. I think that this is going to be a hotly contested season and any side that can ensure wins in the "close ones" will be the sides that fill the top 6 spots.
