This is not a crack at Burlak, because he has ability, but if the Redbacks are relying on him for team improvement they are kidding themselves. I can't remember the last time he has played six games in a row. In fact, I can't think of three games in a row when he has made an impact on a senior game. The last time he dominated consecutive matches was back in the Under 16s. The fact is his body lets him down time and time again. Don't know why he was made captain.

As for the coach, he'll be okay but can only pinch hit off the bench because of a lack of fitness. Bronson Wheatley only played 4 good games last year so will also have to step up.

The addition of the Silvan boys will probably see Romsey make the finals, but unless the likes of Burlak, Dawson, Harrison, Morgan, Carroll and Binney play consistent football all season, the Redbacks won't goo too far in September.

The one pleasing thing is to see they are blooding some kids - they went in with about half a dozen players aged Under 20 last Saturday.
MATTY MATTY MATTY BIT HARSH ON THE GREAT MAN STEVE I AM DISAPOINTED YOU CONTINULAY DONT RATE OUR CLUB OR OUR PLAYERS WELL LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING BERLAK IS A GREAT CLUB MAN AND A TERRFIC LEADER YES HIS BODY HAS LET HIM DOWN ON OCCASION BUT WHOS HASNT GREAT TO SEE THIS KID BACK ON THE PARK TONIGHT AND FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR, GET OF HIS BACK  HE IS A 21 YEAR OLD KID LEARNING THE GAME, WHAT HIS BODY CAN DO AND CANNOT DO :thumbsu:

Maybe this New Zealand couple landed in Romsey?

All I can reveal is Romsey Football Club will announce this week that Brodie Holland will play games with them this season. Former youngster Ben Richmond will return from new Bendigo FL club Strathfieldsaye, where he was reportedly earning $400 a senior game (pity he struggled to get a game in the ones). Kyneton's Ash McNaughton and Mark Darby are also rumoured to be joining the Redbacks bandwagon.

I'll be honest here and say that if Moorcroft wasn't playing in my opinion Woodend would have got up, but I will stress that Romsey played like a team possesed, he gave them a massive lift. Once thay get Burlak back they will be hard to beat. And ur right about crowd numbers, there was a massive crowd at GG and even though I'm a hawks man, it was great to watch Moorcroft in full flight, well :)done redbacks. Great pickup for ur team and also for the league

Who really cares what someone is being paid, get serious guys. The thing is, if it makes the league stronger then clubs should look to go ahead and do it. Gone are the days when you can solely rely on the talent in your own pool (junior system) and reward them with incentives. The game has well and truly gone past that. There is so much money around that if clubs don't embrace it and recruit players for a bit of coin, then you can expect to stay mediocre for many, many years.
I think everyone would agree that the quality of the players brought into the RDFL this year is far better than over the last say 5 years?
With success comes the spinoff with larger crowds and more money being spent at the clubs and the talk generated around the towns as well. Thats my opinion anyway.

Yeah he certainly ruffled a few feathers in his time in the RDFL.

Pretty sure he kicked 20 goals in a game once.

Any other league footballers to play in the RDFL in recent times ?

A. James, B.Fox, M.Werner come to mind
How could i forget the greatman - Steve Knight.

Also AlanThorpe, Jim Buckley (coach)

Good luck to Romsey if they can afford to buy players always comes back to bite a club when the players leave when money dries up (then who whinges we are broke) they certainly have a lot of work to do off field to raise money the reason he left silvan money dried up and the president who employed him had to sack him so he had to take a paycut and said stick it (good clubman thinks about himself)maybe ask Bundoora how much he asked for when he spoke to them rumour has it $4000 sign on and $1500 a game and you are saying Romsey are not paying much if you do your homework you would realise these type of players dont stay at clubs for more than 1 year unless he has signed a contract and i doubt that he has he will float next year for best offer any way good luck to Romsey cant wait to see Gaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I do believe that brodie holland is coach of EDFL team Marby Park so I dont know when he will be able to get away from those commitments and sarita to come play for romsey.

That may well be the case, but I was referring to the despicable act he perpetrated whilst playing for Brisbane when (going full tilt) he used the point of his elbow to smash Peter Currens (Hawthorn) face in. Got 6 weeks for it I believe............... Nowdays he woulda got 16 !

Was Russell Morris that got hit from memory.

Jim Edmond captained Footscray, played a year at Sydney then joined the Bris Bears and finally ended up at Gisborne.

My tips for round 7

Diggers - 44 points
Woodend - 17 points
Tigers - 82 points
Sunbury - 25 points (need an upset for the round)
Moorecroft - 20 goals
Macedon - 52 points

Also on Brodie Holland, there was an article about how he belted a player from Doutta Stars about 2 weeks ago and sent him to hospital. Not sure what sort of suspension was handed out for that though.

no chance of seeing B.Richmond any time soon..Do your homework before you make stupid statements! He is playing in a major leauge where he kicked 4 or 5 in his first game and has averaged a goal since(not bad considering he has been playing half of his games across half back) he loves it up in bendigo and loves the standard, has been carrying an injury for the last few weeks and will prob miss this week also! B.Walters has also played a couple of senior games and will play a few more yet and the 2 boys from Lancefield (Milner and Bruce) have been in and out of the
senior side also. these boys have been given an oppertunity to play and have embraced it. the BFL is as strong as ever and thier easy victory in senior and U18 level over Ballarat Leauge shows what a powerhouse the BFL is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With very similar score

Bendigo 14 -11 - 95 V Ballarat 8 - 6 - 54

RDFL 14 - 10 - 94 V Ballarat 9 - 6 - 60

Maybe this would be a contest for the league's to look at, or god forbid are the RDFL at a similar standard to the Bendigo league at 18's level.

Earthworm, don't speak to soon B Richmond might just be back at the Redbacks before you know it . He left for more money , not to play better football. He spoke to a few of the Romsey players last Saturday and said he missed the boys and would like to come back. Do you think he likes loosing every week ? As for Walters , he wouldn't get a game in the seniors at Romsey or I doubt any other club in the RDFL. The storm must be going well at the moment. ;)

Are you sure Joe ?
I thought he sung "The Real Thing" ?
You Know.... ooo na na na na ooo na na na na !
Actually after seeing your boys on Saturday they could start using it as their theme song this season. :thumbsu:

Touche Omni:cool:. I remember the hit, and the scoreboard flashing "COP THAT", and I know it wasn't PC, pretty sure it was Morris, but that could be wrong.

As for the Tigers, we've made good progress and have set our season up well, but it's a long year.:thumbsu:

Round 7 sees us into the first and only season break for '09.

Diggers Rest have found there groove now and are showing why they have been a top side for the past few years. This week they host a Kilmore side that is really struggling at the moment. With Ruane firing expect Diggers to continue their winning run, 67 pts.

Broadford have got win tally ticking over with 2 in a row now, but they travel to Macedon to take on the might of the Cats. A much tougher ask than Kilmore or Rockbank, and my expectation is a comfortable win to Macedon, 42 pts.

Sunbury Kangaroos have come back to earth with 2 losses in a row, and it doesn't get any easier this week, taking on the unbeaten Riddell at Riddell. The roos are a capable side, and I think they'll take it to Riddell, who had a scare last week, but still banked the points. I can see the roos coming out very pumped up for this game, and I'll tip them in an upset, 6 pts.

Romsey appear a new side with the inclusion of Moorcroft and Green. Both players had an impact themselves, but more importantly it appears they brought the A game out of their team mates as well. Rockbank, on the other hand, are now struggling for confidence, and after a promising start it appears they are back to old habits. Romsey by 80 pts

Woodend were the first to meet the new Romsey last week, and it stopped the momentum the Hawks were gaining. Wallan hosted Riddell and nearly pulled off the upset of the round. Obviously Wallan are starting to get a couple of players back, and we know they're not a side to be taken lightly. Two weeks ago I'd have said Woodend easy, after last week I'm not so sure. I'll stick with the Hawks at home, 18 pts.

Lancefield to beat Centrals.

Good luck to all this week and enjoy the break.:thumbsu:
