I think they should supply them they have before why shouldnt they now to many bad calls i was at a game on weekend and watched the ball go over line 5 times and was called good by players who were in possession of the ball could cause problems why cant league offer some sort of remuneration to clubs the same as umpires get paid to run boundary would save a lot of problems

It wasn't that many years back when clubs used to provide one boundary ump each for the 2 s games. Maybe this is still a viable option ,if there is such a shortage of ups.

The league has a major shortage of boundary umpires.

The reason the league has not adopted the old method of clubs supplying boundary is due to clubs getting young children to do it, often they can not thrown the ball in an acceptable distance or height. We had a league boundary umpire do the same thing numerous times, and he gets paid.
I think it should be up to clubs to decide the action taken on the day, if both clubs can supply somebody well good, in order for this to work properly clubs must be advised prior to thursday night, therefore allowing time to find somebody capable of doing the job, when you find out on a saturday morning sometimes the only people around that can run are 10 year old kids.

IMO, bringing the ball in and bouncing it could be a disadvantage to some teams, some sides may have a good leaping ruckman that dominates bounces but can be out muscled at throw ins. Others may be the opposite. a ruckman that can't jump, but uses his body very well at a boundary stoppages.

To get back to the topic of football, here is a question.

As clubs are now aware, umpires are hard to come by at the moment and most Reserve and U 18 games are played without official boundary umpires. The policy to date has been for the field umpire to bring the ball in 15m and throw it up.

What is the feeling about this? Is this acceptable? Should clubs be told to provide a boundary umpire?

I was at a game on the weekend where clubs complained about it, but didn't offer to provide a boundary.

I believe that boundry umpires should be supplied, the problem is that under 18's and reserves have enough trouble trying to find runners, water carriers, time keepers & team managers. Adding 1 or 2 more volunteers on top of that might put a bit more strain on some teams. Still, the ammo's are able to do it in the lower grades.

Hey guys, just on the boundary umpire shortage, just wondering how many people on here use to do it as a young kid???
I know i did it with mates for a couple of years, and it was great, got me $10 at the games end an spent it at the canteen, so the club never really lost anything looking back at it now!

What if we made the home team supply 2 b/umpires for the 18's and 2's and have the seniors have real b/umpires???

Just fine the club for not providing an umpire and proplem fixed, i think, of course no onew wants to do it on the rainy days, but im sure the clubs will help out the kid in some other area - extra money what ever

It was a good way of getting to know a few of the people who run the club as well, you may cop cop the odd spray from a player here an there, but its only footy at the end of the day!

would that work?????

Good Afternoon

It has been bought to my attention that there are some negative comments being posted on the footy website bigfooty.com, specifically about Netball.

Whilst we all enjoy a bit of banter, when the comments become personal and are aimed at individuals at clubs it becomes a problem.

RDFL Rule 19 (m) is quite clear which say:

Clubs are asked to remind your players of the above rule. Every year the same issue pops up, there will be no warnings, no leniency shown to anyone who doesn’t follow the RDFL rules and brings our game into disrepute.

My young bloke did the boundary for Gisborne games in the BFL last year. He was provided with a uniform (by the bflua) and received $38 a game for the u18s then most games backed up and got $44 for the 2s. Not a bad earner for a 14 year old and he didnt have to go to any umpire training.

Seems pretty self explanatory.
Lets get back onto the footy gents!
Can anyone name as at today the most important players at all the clubs?

Gee it looks like you really know somebody with contacts to quote part of an official email, What are you trying to prove on here? the fact that you know something, or somebody. You really are a mate.
Maybe you should spend all your time on the Ballarat thread now that your tail is wagging behind Serge.

maybe if people got back to talking football and not s*#t. We all have been told. The email that was refered to here was passed to EVERY CLUB. So basically blues 12, if you dont want to play by the rules, DONT POST. oh and yes I am affiliated with an RDFL club.

most important players at RDFL clubs;

Broadford - clearly there captain Mick Edwards is an imposing figure but really think that if Matt Coomans fires then the kanga's can really step up there game to another level.

Kilmore - Clearly there new Captain/Coach guy Booker is there most important due to his leadership and knowlegde of the game but closely followed by Linton Kemp. Linton can play and when in form, can push for Bowne honours.

Wallan - Blake Henderson. At only 18 years of age, Blake is the most important player at wallan. With his ruck taps and continuous tackling pressure around stoppages (yes after gaining the tap), clearly is very important to wallan.

Macedon - Aaron Christianson can play and is pivotal to the catters being the flag favourites. Saw this lad play a couple weeks ago and really turned it on. Leads to the ball into attack and gets down into defence to help out. Calls the shots and has huge amount of footy smarts.

Sunbury - Simply Cuffe. No explanation needed.

These are the only teams i have seen this year. Anyone out there add to the list?

Now more than ever Jason Allen at Riddell.

Mick Lacy for Woodend is their most influential player.

Chris Collins for Lancefield is a pretty important cog.

Matty Krul for Rockbank is a big name over there.

Brian Wheelahan is the barometer for Melton boys.

I'd have James Wright everyday over at Macedon.

Would you say Krul over Luke Walker?
Diggers would have to be Sims followed closely by Laurie

This is a great result by Lancefield. The only loss was by a small margin to Riddell. Good to see both the House brothers in the best. Looks like the change of enviroment has been good for them

Is Matt Nichols red carded for life? And where is IMS??

Some big rumors floatinig around. And I love a good rumour. ;)

nicholls would be red carded for life no doubt as he did a very bad thing and called some one who use to play with the kangaroos a westpac banker!
given that one of the bosses on here is one of the most bias people on bigfooty, and being such a bias person he would make sure that nicholls and his children in yrs to come would be banned from ever using this site again.
what rumours are you hearing on here kingy ?
i have a few i could share with you , and these arent rumours there facts !
all involving people in high places !
p.s netball girls it sad that you cant have your own opinion on things
pps kingy the sunbury boys have been told to stay off big footy direct orders from their coach, shame as some provided the thread with some good stuff.

I think you will find it came from well above IMS head. Waht has playng with the kangaroos got to do with it, last time i logged on it was Big Footy.com. Yes he is affiliated with them.

Back to football now, Tips for this weekend?

I was replying to Grubs post as to why the netballers were warned about bagging the umps on the netball thread. Not sure what the wagging tail is all about but if that is your attempt at humour it is a fail.

Talking of key players at clubs I would think Fleming is nearly the key player in the comp. He will continue to impose himself all year. How high is he rated by others? I would have him in the top 3 along with Cuffe. These type of players that have played at a higher level are the ones that will stand up and impose themselves come finals.

I have heard many people say that - but there is a difference between not liking the physical stuff and shirking contests. I don't believe Fleming would pull out of any contests. The premier CHB in the RDFL will find him very hard to play on. He made the Ballarat Team of the Year last year so he can play the game.

There are a lot of people from Sunbury that post on here so it would be good to here from them after this weekends game. How they think he matches up with the best in the comp. Who will go to him if he starts at CHF?

agreed, the guy is 6'6' and most teams in this comp have noone that can stop someone of that height with a sceric of football ability. Will be the most important player in the comp and will win the goal kicking if stationed up forward all year. I see no reason why he left the bfl, clearly a good enough player why does he need to drop standard? Macedon must be offering a lot of cash.
