tips for the week
sunbury to get over diggers in a close one
macedon to get over centrals by about 5 goals
lancefield over wallan
kilmore do down broadford
woodend over rockbank easily
riddel over romsey easily

Round 5 is upon us and we will start to see the ladder take shape, with the top 4 having an opportunity to put an early gap between themselves and the rest.

Sunbury Roos are flying at the moment, got up in the top of table clash last week. Diggers have started slowly, but kicked there season off last week with a win over Wallan. Roos are alot stronger howver, and should account for the Burras in a tough encounter. 15 pts

Macedon lost no admirers in there first defeat of the season, and come up against a Centrals side building in confidence. Belief is an amazing tool in football, and this game should be a cracker, I'll tip the cats by 21.

Broadford host Kilmore in the first match of what is sure to be a big rivalry. The roos are still finding their feet in the RDFL, whilst the Blues are coming off a good win. I can see it all clicking for Broadford soon, and I'll tip them in a close one, 2 pts.

Rockbank fell back into old habits from all reports last week, and will be keen to make amends. Woodend, on the other hand, will be stinging from a 1-3 start to the year, and will be fired up to defend their home patch, and will get their season going with a solid win, 38 pts.

Riddell are still travelling nicely, unbeaten and maintaining their position as early premiership favorites. Romsey, I imagine, would be hurting after having their pride dented last week. If the redbacks produce anything like they did last week, Riddell will hand them their second successive 15 goal hiding. Going on their previous form, I'll go Riddell by 32 pts.

Lancefield to beat Wallan.

Wallan in for long couple weeks. Lancefield, Woodend and Riddell. Hope we can at least come close or win one of these games.

I know you're being a realist, but if I were a Wallan supporter I'd be backing my side to beat Lancefield tomorrow to get your season back on track. I think you have the personnel at the club but you haven't found the confidence yet. The Tigers will be hard to beat, but they are not unstoppable. If you beat Lancefield you can certainly topple the Hawks and you never know what could happen against Riddell. The Bombers are certainly the side to beat this year but I think they are certainly not the feared team they were in 2008 and have a few more weaknesses.

I'm backing the Pies to go very close tomorrow, beat the Hawks and take it up to the Bombers.

Got wind that the cattery has flown in there superstar forward (well he actually just came home but who wants to spoil a good story with the truth ;))
Big Rig James McCarthy is back but as I understand may only be around to help get his side into the finals and not play in them.....can someone confirm?

Matt - Your spies can't be doing their job in keeping you up to date as Wallan has a substantial injury list. Several changes each week does not help the balance or confidence of the team. Confidence is admittedly low but the players can only do so much. The team will bounce back but I'm afraid it will take some time before some of the major players are back on deck.

Wallan 1989 premiership reunion - 23 May

Calling all those who were involved at Wallan during the 1989 season.

Wallan FC is holding a 20 year premiership reunion on Saturday 23 May (at Greenhill Reserve) from 12 noon (Wallan v Riddell).

Further details see: www.wallanmagpies.com.au

We would love to see anyone who was involved at that time in any capacity - player, committee, supporter, sponsor.

Broadford def Kilmore by lots...
Let me be first to say well done to Doona & BFNC since my comments ealier in the week!

Well done to the Burra on the weekend, they came to play (if Mick Malthouse is reading, it does exist), played an exciting brand of football and did most of it without the influence of Sims who hurt his hamstring in the first quarter, although he did play out the last quarter from Full Forward, his leadership is the best in the competition in my opinion. Shane Marchewka impressive, has stepped up in the absence of Jose. The Roos were disappointing after quarter time and need to bounce back this week.

Big few weeks for Sunbury with Lancefield, Riddell and Woodend all in a row.

Absolutely, will be a testing 3 weeks with Lancefield flying, Riddell still clearly the best side in the competition and the Hawks just finding form. Will see where the Roos are placed after these 3.

Love the kid, but no, he won't win the Bowen.

He'll poll reasonably well, but he's not even 18 yet and would have to defy 70-odd years of history to win it.

He's an outstanding talent and worth his weight in gold to the Tigers and wouldn't be out of depth at any level in country and metropolitan footy.

He's not that good Nicholls. He constantly runs forward of the footy. Though seeing him play the other week, looks like the coaching staff have tamed him a bit in that area. Very selfish and won't give the footy off first option.

He's just a kid mate. When I said he could play at just about any level, I didn't mean he would play the same role as he does at Lancefield. No doubt he would have to play as a forward pocket or a pinch hitter off the bench at the higher level.

Interesting to see Dylan Wright's clearance in to head back to the Kangaroos. Flew out to play cricket in England today didn't he? Whats the story?

Romsey FC on the recruit. Heard they may be signing an ex AFL footballer, not too long out of the game. Looks a little like a dual bowen medalist from Romsey. Holds claim to an AFL mark of the year. And has kicked a pile of goals the last couple of years. Watch this space!!!

The Redbacks must be missing Mark Strack so much they're looking at every avenue to replace his shining red hair.

Mick McCarthy is still lingering in the seniors, comedian Tom Gleeson was recently named their number one ticket holder and now Moorcroft.

Bulldog, you better come back mate, your old club needs you badly!
