Are you serious????? How is you still able to post in this forum? Bagging the Simmo's in one thing, but saying that the umpire that got hit is one of the worst in the league, a 16 yrs old kid, is a disgrace. You wouldn't bag a 16 yrs old playing senior footy and making some blues, you accept it as apart of learning his trade. It will be hard enough to attract young umpires to the league because of this and you want to further pot them? I tell you what, if umpiring is that easy why don't you take it up? But you won't because it is too easy sitting up on your high horse canning them. The sooner people like you are out of our league the better!

Also on everyone bagging the Simmo's, I have been in this league for 10 years and it never changes. If you shut your mouth and get on with it, nothing happens. You open your gob and they lap it up. It is the way it has always been, yet people in this league never seem to learn.
Ok my question to the umpiring faternity is after you have given a yellow card are you allowed to chase them off to the coaches box with the card in their faces?

The umpires are required to lead the player to the boundary so that the card can be logged by the umpires escorts.. So in short yes...

Is this another justification post???

THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION FOR THE EVENTS OF SATURDAY.... NONE WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a joke! I was assulted by 6 people and had to have 4 plates put into my face and an op on my shoulder. The guys that did this to me had one charge to answer each and the assult was for no reason. How do you justify three charges for one person on a footy field?

You need to ask the police about that.

I thought Scott McCarthy was good on SEN this monring. Did not know the umpires rated each teams behaviour. Players, coaches and supporters are each giving a rating from 1-4. These should be released to see which teams are doing a good job and which teams could improve.

He also mentioned that the umpire abuse - not only in the RDFL - is increasing and admits everyone makes mistakes but the umps are doing all they can. The naming of umpires on here should stop as it serves no purpose what so ever.

I believe that the ratings are released to the clubs.. We have to remember that this is an isolated incident, YES, the abuse of umpires is rife, but not sure that it is any more rife than past days.. Does something need to be done? Yes, it always has.. There will always be idiots that show up to games.. Naming of umpires is something that will always happen too unfortunately.. While these guys have the courage to stand up and do the job, they open themselves up to critisism, as do players, by the simple fact that they do do the job.. Unfortunate, but the way it is.. I hope to see a little more maturity on here in the future, as well as on the ground, I get along well with most of the umpires in the competition, they are all great guys, maybe some should try talking to them with actual conversation rather than wanting to dispute everything with them. :thumbsu:

How much time would a club give the reviews? Do they name individual players or overall playing group? Would a club that continually rated poor try to address this with players or coaches? I would think that a club would make a huge effort to turn things around in the umprires eyes. End of the day you would rather them on your side than against you. 50/50 calls may fall you way a little more.

Great post, you would hope that any club reciving poor rating results from the league would be addressing the issue with the playing group

There is an award given to the most Disciplined club at the end of the season... the Daily (?) award... can't remember off hand to be exact but it is handed to the club largely on these votes from the umpires... it comes along with a $2,500 award or close to as an added insentive. Woodend have won it pretty much every year it's been introduced .. so there is that little bit of extra encouragement for the supporters etc to be respectful of the umpire's decision beyond the fence :)

I agree their is no Justification at all for what he did, My question surrounds other incidents in the game. I have played over 250 games of footy and never have I seen an umpire ( and I am not talking about the young one who I hope doesnt give it away and gets to the next level):thumbsu: chase not one but three players off the ground (at different stages of course) right up to the bench when the umpires escort was 50 meters away, how is that so? are they not suppose to leave a 20 meter gap between themselves and the player?

Rockbank won the award, i think 2 or 3 years ago

This is deflection - the problem is not how close the umpire ran while escorting the players off what you should be looking at is the players problems with discipline and what they can do going forward to stay on the ground. 3 red cards and a player getting banned for life in a half of football reflects much more on the Rockbank football team than it does the umpires and how close they ran to a sent off player.

The award is called the McMahon Dairy Award (sponsored by them). 1st prize is $2,500 or $2,000 (not sure) 2nd and 3rd place receive 10 and 5 Burley football I think. The clubs are notified of there progress via emails and towards the end of the season the results are kept secret until Bowen Medal Night.

Some will, others don't think it is a good guide, some umpires can come to games with preconceived ideas that the supporters and players are undisciplined due to one or two earlier incidents.
I know my club had a few bad ratings, it was rectified with players and supporters but still received a poor rating. Consistency will always be a problem, but generally it is a good guide for clubs to know where they can improve.
This year the umpires have also introduced an umpire rating system, clubs can fill them out and forward them on.

I think overall the RDFL is one of the better leagues for player and spectator behavior, its a shame that 1 isolated incident has given the league some bad publicity which it does not deserve, both my dad and brother played alot of footy in this league and have always spoken very highly of how well it was run and how clean it was, would be a shame for anyone to now think otherwise

I have been a BigFooty reader for a number of years and never posted until today.
People using this forum to pot: individual players, a clubs the umpires or league in general should take a good hard look at themselves. The league is in the spot light for all the wrong reasons this week, due to one persons actions, instead of focusing on the talent we will have on display this weekend. Every week, at every game of football played in Australia mistakes are made and the majority of these mistakes are made by players not umpires.
All posters on this thread, know that the league and umpires view these pages, but certain people continue to rubbish both of them. It does not take long when reading someones posts to work out which club they follow and as a result word gets around that a certain member from a certain club is bagging the umpires or league, and as a result their club suffers: 50/50 umpiring decisions may not go your way, McMahon Awards points scoring reduced or when finals/ inter league venues are announced your team misses out. So take this as a warning: support the umpires and league and your club will be stronger and better of for it.

Its a great 2nd post. The one thing I am confused about - you said it is easy to work out who everyone supports - but I have no idea which team you follow??

This is a great post. If we all support the league and the umpires, we can only get stronger and better as a league.
For all of us players and supporters, it is important that we do the right thing by our clubs and the league, that way only the best will do.

If I continue to post, you will eventually work it out. When people post on a subject close to their club their emotion shows through. Most of the posters on here can't help themselves and need people to know who they are as well (I eventually may be one of them).:)
