I hate the RDFL finals format….. IMO the two top teams should have the opportunity to play off for a grand final spot. When 1 v 2 play each other in the first week it gives the team finishing 3rd a big advantage.

What about ………..

1st week

Position 1 & 2 earn a weeks break

Game 1: 3 V 6 - Winner to 1st Semi (loser eliminated)
Game 2: 4 V 5 -Winner to 1st Semi (loser eliminated)

2nd week

Game 3: 1 v 2 - Winner to GF (loser to PF)
Game 4: Winner Game 1 v Winner game 2 (winner to PF, loser eliminated)

3rd Week

Game 5: Loser Game 3 v Winner Game 4 – Winner goes to GF (Loser Eliminated)

4th Week

Game 6: Winner Game 3 v Winner Game 5

Of course this will mean one less final game for the RDFL and less revenue but rewards the 2 top teams for a better home and away season.

you don't rate Kilmores ground Matt?

Nothing wrong with the ground for the home and away matches but close games are often decided by who is playing up the slope in the final quarter. History suggests 'tired' sides can't kick a score uphill at Kilmore. There are of course exceptions, but very few.

Of course no ground in the RDFL is dead flat, but it is much more noticeable as a player at Kilmore. Certainly the next best RDFL ground when the sun has been out for a week or so, though.

I also don't like a team playing a grand final on its own home ground..... This year for example.....If it is known that Romsey won't make the finals by the last round ( and before you redbacks start I didn't say this is going to happen) Then the GF should be held at Romsey...... On the last 2 occasions where Lancefiled has made the GF and played at Home they have been premiers.

Sorry george but i thought the ground is worse now, moving the goals directly in front of the car park is quite weird, as i saw 2 cars with windscreens damaged on sat, the boundary line is too far from the fence in spots. rooms are too small and the constant problems and promises from council about the showers. As for the coaches box, great move to see them away from the crowd but in a location where the wind would blow into them 80 per cent of the time.
Unfortunately for you guys everything is out of your control, You got to love local councils

Absolutely 100% agree with this post... I agree that the top two should get a week off with the opportunity to qualify for the grand final in the second week. To lose all advantage of a top two finish in the first week is unfair and unbalanced...

As for the second comment about a side getting home ground advantage for the GF, I disagree.. I don't think it is that great of an advantage on the best ground in the competition.. Lancefield is the GF ground..

RDFL 2010 Season - Round 13

Due to time constraints I wont go too deep into this weeks games.

Rockbank Vs Melton Centrals
Both sides need this win to show how far they have come in the 2010 season. Centrals have been performing well in recent weeks while the Rams have been underwhelming. Would expect a fantastic contest though.
Rockbank by 8 points.

Diggers Rest Vs Sunbury Kangaroos
Diggers need to pull off a victory against one of the sides above them now to lock in a finals spot, this is probably their best chance. Last week was a very disappointing result and they will be pumped for this one. The Kangaroos bounced back to form last week and are still tweaking their lineup to produce the best football from. Another ripping contest between local rivals.
Sunbury Kangaroos by 15 points

Kilmore Vs Wallan
The Blues will be looking to bounce back while the Magpies are in the same place as Diggers, they need to knock off a more fancied opponent. This seems to be the rivalry round, the Magpies would love nothing more than a win over Kilmore to put them in the box seat for finals.
Kilmore by 38 points

Lancefield Vs Broadford
The Tigers are flying, the Roos are trying hard, but just wont have the talent to compete here.
Lancefield by 90 points

Macedon Vs Woodend/Hesket
The Cats will need to respond to the flogging the Hawks gave them early in the year. The Hawks had a confidence boosting win last week but the Cats will have too much talent. Another rivalry game.
Macedon by 30 points

Match of the Round
Riddell Vs Romsey
The Bombers answered the questions last week with an emphatic win over Kilmore, while the Redbacks put themselves right in the finals mix with a win over the Cats, if they can score a win here against the Bombers, they have to be favorties for a finals spot.
Riddell by 10 points.

I Agree IMS & COSSIE 5. That is a ripping Finals Format. But IMS is right Lancefield is the best ground in the comp. Therefor the GF is played there.

Question IMS For a true nuetral territory (I will admit i haven't seen the surface) But would Clarke Oval be considered by the RDFL? Just your opinion of course. I know you don't speak for the RDFL

Would be a great venue for the RDFL grand final, but because it is not controlled by an RDFL senior club I am not sure that clubs would go for it, if it was managed by the RDFL clubs (each club hosting a section) for the day, it could work, but whether Sunbury Lions and local council will allow that is another question, also, the RDFL clubs would need to agree on it, not sure whether they will as I believe in the past clubs have been hesitant to even put their hand up if it was at Lancefield to host a section, strange, but believe this to be the case...

I am also a fan of your top 6. I know Wardy reads big footy so I hope he has a look. I have said it before but the Redan football club are open that they would like to finish 3rd each year. Win your 1st final and you have 2 chances to go into the Grand Final - note: Redan are half a game in 2nd spot - easy to drop one coming in!

I was in touch with the Roos coach who I know is fiercely competitive and hates losing games but Sunba finishing 3rd is a great result. Let Riddell and Lancefield punch the crap out of each other and get them the following week! The one thing the BalFL do better is that the highest ranked team gets a home final. Huge advantage for finishing 1, 3 and 4. Even losing at 2 you get a home final the following week.

As for the Grand Final venue it is a hard one as the crowds the RDFL draw to their Grand Final is massive! So not many grounds can also accomodate the numbers. Clarke ovel is a great solution - I am certain at the next Power BBQ Demon could convince Serge to go for it. Riddell V Lancefield at Clarke oval is a lot better than Riddell V Lancefield at Lancefield.

on this wouldnt there be some licensing issues
another thought would rdfl clubs be interested and anybody be able to hold a night grand final as this could be massive if held at the right venue

Kilmore by 12 points over Wallan. Aaron James kicked his 100th for the season causing a ground invasion.

Riddell 19. 13. 127. Def' Romsey 9. 6. 60.

Was privileged to witness Matty Baird take one of the BEST pack "Hangers" you are ever likely to see today. It brought the house down ! :thumbsu:
Even impressed Gaaaaaaary, who when asked, was it better than his ? replied "It wasn't too bad was it" ?
Romsey had a real crack today for the first quarter & a half. But were either over run by a more determined opposition, not fit enough, undisciplined, or a combination of all three. The contest started so well & promised plenty. But ended up fizzling out to a tame disappointing drubbing. Time for the Redbacks to re-group & come out all guns blazing next week against the Tigers. :thumbsu:

Spent the day at a bloody cold Tony Clark today. Cats far too classy and organised for hawks who had a dip early, in more ways than one, but then were made to look second class by a smooth cats outfit. There forward line looks so dangerous with MCCarthurs, Meldrum & Fleming taking in turns of kicking goals while the hawks had very few winners other than young Toman on the ball who is a star. Johnno played a super game against old team but Nippa Wright bog again and winner of Bill Tunne Medal. Not happy about the canteen running out of hot food again by 1/2 time. Really looked forward to some steamed dimmys.

Good on AJ for notching up the ton. It's fair to say he's been a major player for the Blues in 2010.

He has kicked exactly 50 per cent of Kilmore's goals this season - the Blues have 208 and he has 104.

Was good to see Aaron kick his 100th, although he was robbed in the second quarter by the goal ump. One problem with the scoreboard up in Kilmore. Its too small and cant see it too well from other side of the ground. What is it with new timekeeper boxes? Everyone seems to be getting one this year. Diggers board not that flash either, thinking of it.

Yeah well done Aaron, mighty effort. :thumbsu:
You do know pal, the big man is half a chance to take out this seasons Bowen Medal I would have thought ?
While he is taking grabs & kicking bags of goals he has been a HUGE plus for the Kilmore outfit. But on the flip side it has made them a little one dimensional & predictable also. "IF" as it did last week, pour rain OR he comes up against an athletic opponent that can spoil & bring the ball to ground, the big man really struggles. He just cant bend over, has NO second effort & his defensive pressure to keep the pill in Kilmore's forward zone is sorely lacking. Having said that, it may not rain anymore either, big AJ keeps getting the ball delivered to him laces, kicks 150+ for the season, wins the Bowen & Kilmore go on to win the Flag, with the big boy kicking 10 in the Grannie. Then all this conjecture, will be just that !& AJ will have well & truly done his job. :thumbsu:

Any news on what happened in the magoos between riddel and romsey. Head count?

Omni can you shed some light?

No, sorry RMF. I didn't get to the ground till just before the start of the ones, & never heard anything about that. Had a chat to the Riddell two's "Star" athletic ruckman too, post the reserves game & he never mentioned anything about it either.

I have been told Meldrum and Wylie are heading back to Heathcote next year,Heathcote must have a magnet Waters back, now Meldrum and Wylie who next;)

Suggest you stick with the HDFL site Big Ump. We are interested in footy here, not rumourmongering.
