So do you think that the Melton Centrals player should have been suspended Sheafie?

There was also an incident a few years ago, i think it was in a grand final when a player was concussed in front of an umpire, no report was made and and an investigation took place, and the player was found guilty and suspended.

Intent or no intent, head high contact was made with a clenched fist.

Yep definately Discreet, the centrals player hit him with a fist off the ball in front of two officals who with the umpire reported the incident, was definately one of our better players and was a massive loss for us in that game, but like u say we could sit here all day and talk about incidents that should and should not of been reported, at the end of the day the umpires and the league have the final say not us supporters and players i guess.

The rdfl is in financial difficulty and most people are aware of that. But mentioning debts from 12 years ago is hardly the reason why. Firstly Sunbury have been debt free now for several years.
Infact the rdfl sent out letters to each club at the start of the season explaining the difficult time they are experiencing and asked if the clubs could pay some of this seasons fees early to assist with this trouble.
The sunbury kangaroos obliged and paid i think 4000 up front.
Then last week the rdfl sent us a fine for non attendance at a netball meeting??? I f the rdfl think that they can regain the money they have obviously squandered thru piss poor management by penny pinching, well i think their next request for financial support will fall on deaf ears. Im probably not meant to comment on things like this but i think its a discrace and most people would feel the same:thumbsdown:

Good post Mongrel. The point I was trying to make by posting the article was it seems the clubs have learnt from the past. Has the RDFL Board?

Yeah your spot on Matt. Only time will tell i guess. The clubs as we have seen previously can switch leagues if they feel they arent being supported. And most clubs are in great shape throughout the league as u mentioned. i also agree with omni and george that our umpires are ALL needed here, not in the bfl. Hopefully common sense prevails next season

Just about every current RDFL club has been in strife at some stage or another in the last 20 years. Lancefield went for a year without a senior footy team. Macedon Football Club changed its name to Macedon FC to get past a loophole. Riddell folded for a season. The Rovers changed their name to the Kangaroos to create a new image and try and revive the club's name. Rockbank in recent times has had to fight for it's reputation. I think the adversity these clubs have had to go through has made them stronger.

When the RDFL was in strife, and I mean real strife, it wasn't just AFL Victoria (as they are now known) who had to bail them out. I'm fairly sure Charlie Watson dipped into his own pocket to give the league a helping hand. There could be others. Steve Turner also did a lot of work as a volunteer back then to keep it all going. When the RDFL became more financial he became an employee.

I don't think we are as bad off as we were 13 or 14 years ago, but questions must be asked of the board as to how they let the situation disintegrate. Would like to see the Leader or the Telegraph etc. take up some of these questions with the Board president. The RDFL clubs and footy public deserve answers.

As for the Riddell Umpires sending blokes to Ballarat, it just shouldn't be happening. The flow-on effect means the reserves get better umpires and then the U18s also get better umps. The Bal FL can have Semmo!

Yeah we followed the same path. We also got a fine for the same meeting, even when we gave notice. Just invoice them for holding a meeting at your clubrooms next, I know of other clubs who have :D

Good post Mongrel. The point I was trying to make by posting the article was it seems the clubs have learnt from the past. Has the RDFL Board?

The RDFL will be an incorporated entity and through FOI you will be able to access last years financials July 1 which is only a month away. I would suggest if the clubs are not getting answers you will be able to sign a form and receive financials this way. Might give you some of the answers your after as a public entity has to make these records available to the public.

The other point I make is someone has to be blamed for the state of affairs and as the RDFL CEO is the person who signs the yearly financial statement as being true and correct, I would start at this point. Can administrators be working in another league if they have a chequered history of financial mismanagement? Most employees for senior roles would do some diligence and find out what they are like first and I believe the VFL would know who is a good administrator. In stating this where are the previous CEO's working? I would guess and say outside of the football industry.

I'm pretty sure the Board have to sign off on all finances. But if not, the only CEO who needs to be looked at is the last one to resign - McCartney. Not sure where he is working now.

Thats just down right disgraceful, & the powers that be should be bloody ashamed of themselves !

Haha... Not surprising...

Did hear though now that it may indeed be Adam Kearney that was reported.... But I don't think that Demon was reported, just a warning for the verbal...

OMFG  .... Yes Riddells coach has in fact been reported - Questioning umpiring decision/abusive language or something like that......... & the Umpire in question cant tell when a player is struck severely enough to warrant a report ????

Where's the sense & parity in that ???

Omni - this was a few weeks ago. Were they that far off the mark on Sat? That team of two years ago would have performed a lot better than what I saw.

Hate to state the bleeding obvious pal, but wet weather has a tendency to mean lower scores & thus a closer contest. This was in fact the case with all the games in the RDFL on Saturday. Couple that with 3 game ending injuries, a very capable opposition.................& an incompetent umpire, & you have the ingredients right there for the upset which occured over at Kilmore on Saturday.

Omni, how is the young fella liddell doing?

First things first... Gee its good to have you back Georgie boy!!!! :thumbsu:

Agreed, it is time for the board to clear everything up, the one real question mark in the past couple of years has been the accountability of the board and its members to the people they are responsible too, the clubs. Open and transparent is what this league needs to be, it is what the league based it's revival on 10 long years ago, the fact that transparency was required to rebuild, now that the league was moving into a position of strength, it needs the transparency more than ever!!
This is why i posted this comment below some weeks ago, No statement has been released by the RDFL informing clubs of what happened to OUR money last year. A person who was trusted in the position of the CEO of our organisation has disapeared and funds are missing! is the Police involved? has any club in the RDFL been informed of what has happened to OUR money? has any club been informed about what action the RDFL is taken? the answer to these questions need to be addressed, the whole thing has been swept under the carpet as if everything is above board, if the RDFL does'nt want rumours and inuendo, they must come out and make a statement, the clubs have worked very hard to lift the standard in this compition and deserve an explanation! A meeting must be held between the board and the clubs to clear the air and so as we know what the future holds.

Show you stated that John Batty has started off well in the short time he has been with us, can you elaberate please.

Romsey coach got reported for being punched in the back of the head, with his back turned whilst on the ground trying to handball the pill out, must be a new reportable offence- go figger. A few minutes later the same umpires eyesight failed to see a Romsey player punched in the head with the umpire in very close proximity, the siren sounds to end the 1st qtr surprise surprise a fracas develops between the players. This could have turned very ugly as spectators where out the ground walking towards there huddles. Thankfully both sides had enough smarts to walk away. This could have been avoided if the head high hits had free kicks paid, reports made. I am not umpire bashing just a little bemused that his eyesight failed at times.

Macedon Ranges Telegraph:

RDFL: Bombers may seek league probe
01 Jun, 2010 04:00 AM

A DISILLUSIONED Riddell Bombers outfit is in the process of deciding if it will ask the Riddell District Football League to investigate a weekend incident and subsequent melee in its match against Kilmore.
An in-play incident which left Riddell onballer Gerard Liddell hospitalised with severe concussion was at the heart of the Bombers' frustrations.

Bombers coach Matthew Power told the Telegraph on Sunday that the club would most likely decide today whether to make a submission to the league.

Liddell, 26, underwent CT scans on Saturday night and had no structural damage, but his condition was being monitored by family on Sunday.

A thrilling game ended seven points in Kilmore's favour and inflicted Riddell's first loss of the season.

The result means the top of the ladder is shared by three teams with seven wins and one loss: Riddell top on 244per cent from Sunbury Kangaroos on 166 and Lancefield on 123, with Kilmore fourth as the only side with a six-and-two record.

Power said Liddell had been regularly targeted this season on and off the ball and the weekend's match had a general lack of protection for the ball carrier from the umpires.

The Riddell coach said no reports had been laid in Saturday's game and with club president Mel Tobin not at the game, the club would most likely wait until today to decide if it would make a submission to the league requesting action.

Power paid tribute to Kilmore's performance and said either team could have deservedly claimed victory.

"Kilmore are talented, clean with the ball and they've got some good players," he said.

"I spoke to our players afterwards and commended them. It was two sides that played their hearts out and unfortunately there's got to be a loser. Obviously now that we're no longer top dog we have to decide how we react."

SCORES: Kilmore 12.3 (75) d Riddell 9.14 (68)

Slyone and George08 i commented on this a month or two back and was shot down for "talking down the league" and talking about "off field issues" by IMS and the like - but l agree its a disgrace the league have not given the clubs any answers about the money, or what is being done about it.

The fact that the President Ollie Matthews and the rest of the board prance around on match day and pretend nothing has happed pi$$es me off no end. At least Ollie should have resigned as a matter of principal. I don't care he's umpired a million games and played another million a person under your watch has fleeced the league of plenty and you along with the rest of the board need to be accountable for this.

The fact that people in authority at clubs ask what is being done and for him to give either no answer or a glib response is nothing short of appauling.

Geogie, we are all frustrated about this situation but to lay the blame on one person is not the way to go, Ollie is an honest hard working guy who loves the league, i have known Ollie since 1982 and will not have his character slandered on this forum. Yes there are problems that need to be addressed but potting one decent bloke is not the way to go. Ollie has done more for the RDFL than any of us and i'm sure he is not happy with what has happened. Some of the biggest companies in the world have been brought down by one man and blaming someone who is still there to pick up the pieces is definatley not the way to go.

I didn't make this post pal. I would only say there are more than just Ollie on the board!

A lot of negative things have been said about why we shouldnt be sending guys over to the Ballarat League and very few positive things have been said. I think it's a fantastic opportunity for our umpires to have a run in that league given that the quality of football is deemed to be much higher than the RDFL and what better way for an upcoming umpire wishing to aspire to senior level than to have a crack in the BFL. Having had a run several weeks ago, without sounding patriotic, I was proud to wear the colours and the pace and physical attack of the game was a tremendous and self improving experience.

The league is in a great position for numbers across all mediums on a Saturday .. having more umpires on board is always a great welcome and to have that extra fixture every week is fantastic for everyone who is available to have a run, to get that opportunity as opposed to missing out every week. The argument can be said that it's important to have that pressure on when people have to miss out every week and you really need to earn your spot.. but we already experience this around finals. We have umpires drop out every week with more than a dozen changes made to the appointments across all three disciplines on a Wednesday night and while that can be an argument to not have that fixture at Ballarat.. we have a hard dedicated group of umpires who work hard for each other to cover those sudden losses.

I look to one umpire that has been on the fringe of Senior selection for a while who umpired his first senior match in the Ballarat League that the experience and improvement in his ability saw him get his first senior call up a few weeks later in the RDFL. Everyone who is available on a Saturday is keen to have a run and to have 18 extra positions available through the fixture ensures that we all get a game.

The argument is there that we should have our best umpires performing in our league on a Saturday.. all umpires are on a rotational basis through all three grades anyway.. one umpire who is a regular senior campaigner is likely to umpire a few Reserves games over the year, more than any other year.. much is the same for sending some over to the BFL.. it's part of a rotation policy to give everyone a chance and the hard work that Brian Collins, Browny and Richard Patterson do each week to arrange appointments plus Glen Shilling with more than 60 games on a Sunday is simply extraordinary.. they typify just how great the Riddell Umpires organisation is, plus the efforts of all those behind the scenes...

Some extremely worrying events occurring in our League at present lads.

League in diabolical financial strife – whilst competition & clubs are flying !
League Board puts up a wall of silence – Why ? What have they got to hide ?
League Board hounds Tribunal Chairman, questioning his integrity, forcing the one man that single handedly fixed the system to reluctantly resign.
League Board asks all clubs to pay fees early. Then starts fining the shit out of them !

I wonder, just wonder if we are going to see a few fines metered out at the Tribunal tonight, ???
Try this one for size ?? –

Board headed by an Umpire, no Tribunal Chairman to get in the way !
Frivolous reports starting to emerge ???
Perhaps we are getting the first insight Fellas into just how the Leagues Board are going to get themselves out of their Financial Black Hole.

Brace yourselves people, for a “Fines” led Recovery !!!

I smell a Public Servant or ex-Public Servant somewhere in all of this !!

Can I have some of what you're taking because it seems to do amazing things to the imagination!!

For one the former tribunal chairman was a man that gave 20 years service to the umpires association and i'm pretty sure he's also a life member, so there pretty much was an umpire in charge!

And as for the frivolous reporting, it's a bit rich to start questioning the integrity of the over 90 umpires that walk out on a Saturday. I would like to know what you would class as "frivolous reporting"

but points for imagination

Please dont keep throwing this old chestnut up as excuse pal. It completely erodes your whole argument, because Its flat out just plain baseless & INCORRECT !

It's not ranked as the number 1 game each week, and it's not like the 2 best guys go up there every week. It just gives 2 more guys a chance to do senior footy each week, which can only be good for the development of our younger and less experienced umpires. Also means guys aren't continuously getting forced out at the bottom end and regularly missing out.
