Was laid up at home all weekend and recorded the game from the online radio feed and listened between the World Cup matches that night. From the sounds of it, Sims played extremely well and Tom Waters also did well in the ruck.

A shame the organisation was piss poor this season as far as training and selection goes. The final team wasn't even announced on the RDFL website prior to the game or posted on BigFooty, even though three posters (IMS, mockery and Mongrel) had official ties with the interleague team.

From what I've heard, the local newspapers also had very little about the games in the lead-up, too. Apart from the RDFL senior and U18 players, and some diehard supporters, very few would have known much about the match.

Result was probably indicative of the lack of time and effort put in by the paid RDFL hierarchy and the board. Going by the call, it must be said the RDFL players and coaches gave 100 per cent effort.

Good call Matt, i'm pretty sure Ged's & his assistants had limited time to prepare, and by all accounts they all put in 100% and should be congratulated, success isnt always gaged on winning! however it would have been frustating knowing that if more players were available, we may have won the game.

The SFL were clearly more prepared for the day... I mean, everyone that has ever done anything including filling the water bottles got a medal... It was a long long after match presentation.....

IMS,

From all reports the RDFL can take some notes on how the day was run, from on off-field perspective? What are your thoughts?

And can you inform us on just how good or close Dawson and Waters came to the taking hangers? Only because the bloke on the radio nearly lost his load so it was hard to hear?

Hospitality and organisation were first class also am led to believe with a lunch functions and presentations being first class.

Nichols, i don't think they could have posted teams as the side was still up in the air come Saturday morning with players pulling out etc;

Top effort though going down 45 points, to a side that had 9 of their div 1 ladder leadeing players playing and 15 from their div 1 top 4 sides. Putting that in perspective that we 8 from our top 4, and none from our top side and third side respectively.

Perhaps more of an effort from the top players in this competition is required in future?

I wandered on here to see what the RDFL followers had to say about the interleague game. It's interesting both camps are lamenting players who were not available. Are the RDFL imposing any sanctions on the players who pulled out?

I agree with the post-match presentation, it dragged on a bit, even as an SFL follower. I think the dog got a medal!

Yep, can certainly agree, there are definitely things that we can learn from the entire process this year, all that can be done is to take these things on board and ensure that the process is implemented and even improved on for next year and going forward.

Dawson's attempted hanger was certainly worth the excitement, happened right in front of us, he was effectively 3 on one, got the perfect ride on the shoulders of the guy in front of him, if it wasn't for the fact that one arm was slightly affected (held) he might have been able to bring it down, he went one handed in the end and lost it on the way down, would have been a brilliant grab.. Tommy's effort was pretty good too, he got a good spring at it but not sure he got the ride which made him fall backward in the attempt and cost him the grab...

Cant comment on the functions, but looking through the window like a lost puppy it certainly did look as though it was really well set up, maybe Half Full could comment on it as he made sure he knocked loudly on the window to show me his beer :D

Look, the side was settled on Friday night, effectively we had our completed side Friday afternoon, we could have possibly posted it, but late Friday arvo, people are generally busy doing other things :)

The end result blew out in the final minutes, all in all it was a fantastic effort by the RDFL boys and we will certainly work to ensure we are better prepared and positioned for next year. Would the players that were not available have made a difference, maybe, but the SFL were missing guys too... To be honest, I would much rather have had the guys that were out there giving it their all rather than a half hearted performance from someone who felt they "had" to be there... But hopefully, going forward, these players all make themselves available, it really is a great day to be involved in, would be no doubt fantastic to have some of those names involved.... :thumbsu:

It was a spectacular day down at Springvale.. while the conditions were slightly overcast and a bit of rain hit, it proved to be a winner on all accounts. It was exciting to see a lot of the RDFL officials and players who werent in the squad down there on the day.. the Southern lads on and off the field were brilliant.. Wayne Holdsworth does an outstanding job as the president of the league down there and hopefully we as a league can do some more work with them in the future in more ways than one. Robbie Flower was a great guest speaker and a great gentleman to have join us up in the commentary box on centre wing.

The 18s were great and outstanding to see such a close result yet again.. the talent pool across both leagues is very promising for the future.. hopefully some get the chance to play with or against each other on the grandest stage of them all in an AFL grand final.

The seniors was a good hard game.. the youth really stood up and to see Dawson light it up after 4 weeks out of the game had the hair stand on the back of your neck while Dean Smith-Whiting was amazing.. it was fitting that he took out the best on ground award at 19.. just a few years older than last year's winner Myles Dorman.. hopefully our squad can strengthen next year.. the 45 point margin flattered Southern, despite their brilliance. Kirkland kicked six goals for them and he's a 32 goal kicker for a Div 2 side while the big chap Smith was a monster up forward. Their boys only had 2 from last year's side in the team with their skipper and one of their vice captains.. we had nine..

A big pat on the back for Rohan.. aka the Ro-Dog or Roanator for his brilliance in leading the outside broadcast, write up of the footy record and hosting the lunch.. outstanding effort from the guy with the handlebar mo and an all round top guy to work with.. the outside broadcast was a red hot success alongside J, Ro-dog and Hammer.. lets see how we go for the future. Congrats to everyone on the day!

I'm not sure if I wasn't listening to another game but the 45-point margin seemed the fair result. SFL led from pretty much the get go and gradually increased their buffer over the four quarters.

And as you mentioned Dorman, I'll use the segue to mention he played a blinder for the Northern Bullants in the VFL reserves on Saturday. Kicked a couple of sausage rolls and set up at least five others. Has been named in the best a handful of times this season and is ninth in the comp goalkicking. Not without a chance of making his VFL senior debut at some stage. Some of those Carlton spuds might have to make way for the young juggernaut!

Also worth mentioning that another former RDFL star in Matt Little is carving them up for Williamstown in the VFL seniors with 55 goals to date (18 more than the next best) and is likely to get re-drafted as a rookie in October/November. Couldn't get much of a go when at Hawthorn with Franklin, Roughead and Mitch Thorp ahead of him in the pecking order. Could be one to watch after the success of my man Barlow and Podsiadly.

The Southern FM and Southern Footy League websites streamed the game live.. despite their dominance.. we were probably a few goals better than the margin suggested if one were to put their RDFL hat on :p

It was a great day being involved with the interleague. The under 18s put on a great curtain raiser. Dan markworth is a superstar in the making, and Mitchell Streiff once again made it look easy at times. I cant wait to see some of these young guns and where their careers take them in the next few years!!
The senior game i guess was only disappointing from an off field point of view. The Southern league demonstrated just how much Interleague footy meant to them. They prepared well and had more staff than the essendon football club. Our preparation was terrible and squashed into about two weeks. After seeing how organised the SFL were, I hope our league can now take some of that onboard and prepare differently next year.
It was disappointing also to only have two players from the top 3 sides represent our league. But it was an absolute pleasure to work with the guys that took the field. Each and every player showed they wanted to be there, and they represented the league and their home clubs with distinction. They can all hold their heads high, and IMO thats the rdfl team of the year right there. The players that put their hand up at short notice and gave thier all for our league. WELL DONE FELLAS

Well done to Leigh Fishendon & Ryan Hatty on representing the rdfl on the weekend.Im sure both done the kangas proud. Bad luck to geedes on the lost Im sure he would have been hanging to win this one dont know how preperation was for this game but hearing it wasn't to crash hot. Its rep footy rdfl be happy u guys have it & make the most of it I remember under 15's years ago they had to cancel rdfl team because of the lack of interest. Rdfl has a long way to go with rep footy with the WRFL even futher behind

Some HUGE games this weekend.. Dawson and Moorcroft back for the Redbacks as they face the Cats.. fancy the home side to come away with the win here??

I herd that Ash McNaughton will be out for the remainder of the year with a broken arm, bad news for Romsey and Ash who has been their best player this year.

Yeah, heard it was a broken hand, either way, will probably keep him out for the rest of the year.... Terrible news for Ash and for Romsey...

Great to see a couple of RDFL young guns, Jonothan O'Rourke and Lachie Plowman doing well for Vic Metro in the u 16 state championships up in Sydney at the moment.

i dare say that Cam Guthrie may be the next ex RDFL player to be drafted
You would think he is an absolute monty.

I would have O'Rourke in front of Plowman - without doubt.

Good luck to both of them though - they are both great kids and hopefully the two of them are fortunate enough to be drafted

Believe the investigation into Gez Liddell incident against Kilmore was heard at the tribunal on Tuesday night with the offending player ( Hede I think) given 4 weeks with 2 suspended.

Anyone confirm

What a great comp we have. Anyones flag again and not much between 1 - 9 on ladder. I watched hawks almost pull off upset of round against bombers last week until experience got them over line. Young Goods the standout. Great to see cats get ona roll now to. Love the way they play and how tight knit flea has them as a team. Only ever hear good reports about the club which is a good sign and all 3 sides are a chance to win flags.
Some news i have been told and researched.
Heard hawks have lost there inspiring young captain sammy bowen for rest of the year to do a builders course but good news is that jewbs might get back for last part of year.
I see Cats cleared Waters back to heathcoate last week, not to sure why, but he was injured for most of year and maybe because they knew they had a big rig coming back to that position. Also see they have picked up some new recruits just before they closed and all 'can play' there coach told me at gissy last week. Scott Carter back from trentham (will be great for ressies), Casey robertson from Benalla? Huw Flanigan from Uni blues? Anyone know anything about these last 2 players. Hope to see them all in action this week over at romsey. Should be a ball burster.
