IF Rovers get over the Burra!!! Hopkins is a smart coach he'll know what is required. One thing he will do is make sure his players get to the contest first....not just sit back and wait for the opposition to make the first move then react. I always thought players should be running to the ball not away from it, which happening alot at lancefield.

Noticed the rovers full forward didn't worry the stats men on Saturday...... he must of been injured.......again!
Why so personal all the time mate? Played for Riddell (not only your club) for over 5 years, part of winning and losing grand finals there, I have a huge ammount of respect for the club and the effort the past President put in to make it where it is now, yet you still have a problem, I really hope the club is around a lot longer than you mate cause you really do let them down by being one of there supporters

I wouldn't stress too much about it pal.. Most of Cossie's posts are pure negativity toward the Roos, there is an obvious issue for whoever it might be. Personally I hope that others within the Riddell club don't have as much of a concern about what the "Rovers" are doing, if so, they might have some concern about them.. Maybe that is the reason behind the book going missing?? I would have thought that the convincing results they have had this year over them would have given them the confidence, but some of the actions over the past couple of weeks, well, who knows... :D
If this is true IMS are we talking about a registration book or the like??, pretty big news I'd say.

I believe that it was the coaches personal note book.. Conflicting stories on how they came across it, but there was certainly no attempt to return it even when it was clear who it belonged to, still hasn't as far as I know...

Firstly mate you might need to check the RDFL ladder, I don't seem to remember a 'Rovers' mentioned there. Secondly I think the KANGAROOS coach might like to hang your post from the changeroom walls this week.

the main thing is that he has the full support from the president, commitie and football club.i hope he will be apart off a grand final with this club as a player or coach either this year or in years to come.

ps hope you kick 10 this week mate and get us in our first grand final

speaking to gisbornes unofficial lord mayor today and hes pretty confident tommy waters will be a bulldog next year, apparently chasing him pretty hard, they are also chasing a couple of other handy players from a neighbouring rdfl club

You call it pure negativity IMS, I call it "saying it like it is"
Please don't think I hate the kangarovers all I'm trying to do is point out where you can improve.

You were at the game last week...... are saying you don't agree YOUR team WERE second to the ball..... are saying that they weren't reactive instead proactive. Are you saying your high price forward recruit earned his pay on Saturday?

C'mon get off the grass...... the truth will set you free!!!!

The last time I heard someone has the full support of the President, Committee and football club was a month ago........ wheres is Matty Knights now. I'd be a little bit nervous.

I'd be honoured if he did that.......because if you think this will gee them up..... think again, I'm just a humble little farmer who remembers how the rovers played all those years ago and in my eyes still do.

And we must remember that your coach is fond of offering up his thoughts in the local rags......I'll have to go back and post some of his juicy comments.

His 3/4 time speech had a beauty in it as well......something along the lines of "Guys your playing really well........ it's just not showing on the scoreboard" Do'H.

Actually... I wasn't at the game last week... But I am sure that they were indeed second to the ball and outplayed by a far superior side on the day...

As for the "High priced forward" earning his pay on Saturday, you have gotta be on something.. The one thing that I am and always will be impressed with, as I was when he played at Riddell, is his effort when he doesn't have the ball in his hands.. No one could ever question his effort or commitment to the contest, not every measure is that of total goals kicked.. I have heard nothing but praise for the leadership and guidance that he has provided within the club and your petty potting won't change that fact.. Whether he is carrying an injury, or whether he is running around like he was when he was 24.. I am pretty certain that the Kangaroos would be more than pleased from the output that they receive from him. Certainly wish that I had an opportunity to coach a side with a player like him running around...

As for the truth setting me free.. I will give you the truth right here and now. If the Sunbury Kangaroos are concentrating on next week already, they won't make it past this week, but as you are firmly aware, I sure hope that they do. Then next week I will look forward to you getting on here and potting everyone in sight... If you have the courage in the week leading up to the game.... :thumbsu:

i know the president rates him very high as a person and footballer and will give his best for our club. what happens this year on and off the field we are a better club with him.

Thanks Blues. Must be a few disgruntled Twos players at Macedon over past couple of weeks. Those who worked hard all year to get them into finals only to miss out when they got there.

Not too many disgruntled players I wouldn't think Jeb (unless you are one). The Macedon boys tend to play for the club rather than themselves, and are happy to see the Two's progressing.

You are an absolute Tool. IT was ok for Mark Opie to plaster Stuff all over the clubrooms to motivate the riddell manilla folders against sunbury but it won't be ok for helmers to do the same? ******ed. Not that i think he will need to do that anyway.

As for Helmers 3/4 time speech If your gonna quote a person quote them properly. He said he was happy with the EFFORT the boy's were showing....but it wasn't showing on the scoreboard.

As for meach i never new the bloke before this year. I knew of him and played against him. Can say i rate the guy very highly. Smart player, footy brain great bloke. Just a shame he barracks for collingwood.
But i bet when meach played at riddell and kicked all those goals and helped win games and flags. You were one of those phoneys pattin him on the back and buying him a beer telling him how good he was. Cos he was helping YOUR team win.

Go back to your farm you silly hick

Never saw the Rovers play or had anything to do with club as it was, but have had alot to do with the club as it is today. A great club with dedicated players, coaches and committee. So glad we don't have supporters like you.

As for the coaches speech, maybe you should approach Dean and tell him for yourself what you thought of it, i'm sure he would welcome that.

BIG weekend of footy, as good as any weekend of the finals series this year so far with a great display of skill from both the girls and the boys.. Romsey ground is holding up beautifully from what they say.. couldnt get any better!

Yeendy the Anthony Hudson of community radio, hey mate are you guys broadcasting the game this weekend?

Haha when you're alongside Mr Football and Wally in the box, an enormous erray of talent in those 2 alone. Yeah, we'll be down there broadcasting from 2pm.. can get the coverage in spots throughout the ground, should be better for next year young Sprechen.. you must be a very happy man with your Pies at the moment.. premiership glory on the horizon?

In the local area.. the Roos and the Burras would be fitting of a grand final wouldnt it? The Bombers look unstoppable at the moment.. should the Burra get up, they'd give the Bombers a run for their money? The Cats and the Roos will be a gem in the Reserves, the 18s could go either way.. the netball is shaping up well with a few ripping encounters.. it's all shaping up to be a really good finals series in all.. hopefully with a few more twists and turns yet

I am hoping the Roos get up on the weekend and then to go on with it the week after. Funny things can happen in a GF. As for the pies mate.......lid is still firmly on:thumbsu:

They definitely deserve a shot at the Bombers.. would be great for the club if it went all the way.. give them a great boost for the future and given that the juniors compete with the Lions and Rupo, wouldn't it be fantastic for a young star to join the Roos junior team and push right through on the back of senior premiership success.. can't disregard the Reserves either.. it's all looking great off the field.. the next few weeks should be a belter.. haha good cover up about the pies, third time lucky against the cats in preliminary finals!

RDFL 2010 Season - Under 18 Preliminary Final

Preliminary Final
Riddell Vs Kilmore
Saturday 11th September - Romsey Park, 9.30am
(Last time Rd 12 - Riddell 6.5.41 d Kilmore 5.9.39)
The last chance for these two sides to qualify for a Grand Final berth against the Cats. Two sides that will be desperate for a result. The Glen Elliot led Bombers who last week gave everything in their loss to the Cats against the Blues who only two weeks ago fell short in their Qualifying Final loss to the Cats. The Bombers were well served last week by Jordan Taylor and Matt Vandenberg, but would be disappointed with the end result, the loss will no doubt serve as inspiration to this weeks game and the Bombers will no doubt hope to get plenty out of their big Centre Half Forward in James Nolan, but the mystery will surround whether young gun Grant Puxley will pull on a jumper to help the third Riddell side qualify for next weekend. Kilmore pulled off a fantastic win against the Hawks who were a real danger to the other sides in the competition. Nick Sheldon provided a goal scoring option while Codey Phillips was at his inspirational best. This week will provide a massive test for the Blues. If they can get past the Bombers, they will be full of confidence heading into the clash with the Cats. Both sides will go into this weeks game full steam ahead with a Grand Final matchup with Macedon firmly on their minds...

Key Players: Grant Puxley (Riddell), Codey Phillips (Kilmore)
One to watch: Matt Vandenberg (Riddell), Thomas Snaith (Kilmore)

Kilmore by 24 points.

RDFL 2010 Season - Reserves Preliminary Final

Preliminary Final
Sunbury Kangaroos Vs Macedon

Saturday 11th September - Romsey Park, 12.00PM
(Last time Rd 14 - Sunbury Kangaroos 8.8.56 d Macedon 6.9.45)
As it should have been, two of the best three sides in the Reserves competition this year match up this weekend for the chance to have a shot at the last remaining of the three next week in the big one. In both times these two sides have met this year we have witnessed fantastic contests, contests worthy of a senior game in patches. The Cats had an impressive win against Kilmore last week, with big Al Meldrum returning to the side to help them to the great result. The Cats were once again very well serviced by Matt Goodwin who quite possibly is one of the most impressive stoppage players in the Reserves finals, along with "Wee man" Matty Johnstone, they proved to be just too strong for the Blues in a hard fought game. The Cats will certainly be looking to Meldrum once again for leadership this week in what is sure to be another classic. The Kangaroos were outplayed in very difficult conditions against the Bombers last week and will certainly be looking for more output from their on field leaders. Scarbourough Medallist Steve James was again excellent for the Roos and they will require much of his drive this week, giving first option to the Roos midfield in Stuart Davis, Paul Newton and the underrated Ewen Hildebrand. The Roos certainly have the forward potency to put the score on the board, but so do the Cats. Both will be desperate for a crack at the Bombers and this game will certainly be a worthy curtain raiser to the main contest.

Key Players: Steve James (Kangaroos), Al Meldrum (Macedon)
One to watch: Ben Hunting (Kangaroos), Matt Goodwin (Macedon)

Sunbury Kangaroos by 8 points.

RDFL 2010 Season - Preliminary Final

RDFL Preliminary Final
Saturday 11th September - 2.30PM
Romsey Park - Romsey

Sunbury Kangaroos FNC Vs Diggers Rest FNC

Last time they met:
Round 13
Diggers Rest FNC 10.9.69 lost to Sunbury Kangaroos 12.12.84

The local rivalry heads to a new level this week as the Kangaroos and Burra face off for a shot at the Bombers on the biggest stage of them all..

Diggers Rest
Well what can one say about the Burra. There is no better team in the competition when it comes to finals time when it comes to a pure lift in intensity, and last week they proved it again when they knocked out the reigning premier in fine style. Even while missing key players in Craig Thompson, Dan Reilly and Steve Ruane. The Burra covered, supported and pushed each other every step of the way to record another famous finals win. Glen Hopkins once again pushed his name as the premier coach in the competition and the list of players beneath him continue to follow his lead, along with the lead of skipper Shaun Sims. The Burra play to their strengths. They use the ball well through the defensive 50, Jason Davies, John Ryan, Kris Marsh and Michael Hildebrand continue to hold up the opposition forwards, winning the ball and using it well through the middle of the ground to spot up midfielders like Jeff Heritage, Stuart Clarke and Dylan Kite. Leigh Rust provides a hit up target across half forward, while Sims has played predominantly across half forward in recent weeks in a similar role while Dan McCabe and Steve Ruane have played deep. Whether or not Ruane plays this week might impact the way the Burra set up. The Burra will need plenty out of Shane Marchewka and Daniel Poynton in the ruck duels with Leigh Fishenden. This match up could play a massive part in the result of the game.
Strength: They are a pure team, every action is a supporting action of a team mate. They have a structured game plan that means when the chips are down they know exactly what they need to go back to doing to bring back the balance of the contest. They might not have the biggest superstars running around, but they have balance and a tremendous amount of heart.
Weakness: They are put out of their comfort zone when the support isn't available. If the players are left to fend individually in contests they can tend to become uncomfortable. When pressured through the midfield, they can make quite noticable errors, blatant turnovers that leave the back six vunerable.

Sunbury Kangaroos
The Roos backed up their strong win against Romsey with a disappointing result against the Bombers and will be determined to bounce back against the arch rival this week. The Roos need to return to the game style that has delivered them to a preliminary final. Rebounding and free flowing football, this year in their best games they have been able to turn and hit a team mate on a lead, it opens the game up for their players that are excellent space finders, Matt Welsh, Dave Caccamo, Mitch Streiff, Darragh McGovern and Ryan Hatty are all heavily involved in the contest when the Roos are moving the ball in this style. If they can isolate their Burra opponents into this one on one style of football up the ground it can only be an advantage. The backline is a key to the Roos, when they are backing themselves to take the game on and rebound the football they make the Roos a very dangerous proposition, but when they become stagnant they can become a little predictable which makes them easy to pick off. Its the Roos next level of players that need to come to the fore this week if the Roos are to impact this contest. Brenton Sutherland, Matt Leonard, Nathan Hole and Rob Zahra all have the ability to completely change up the context of the Roos side and make them less predictable to the opposition and so much more dangerous. The Roos will also need to provide more opportunities inside 50 for Jamie Cuffe, he could be the difference maker, especially if his hands are on. Chris Meacham will continue to provide an option as he always done, but it is Cuffe that could make or break the game.
Strength: Marking power. If the game is relatively dry, the Roos will go in a different side. Meacham, Cuffe, Sutherland, Leonard, Gregory, Fishenden and Ploog, they have the big strong contested grab style players that can provide the style of game that will break open for the Roos if they can get going. The Burra will struggle to match all of these guys, the Roos need to find that one match up they can exploit.
Weakness: Defensive running. If the Roos are exploited going the other way this week the Burra midfield are skillful and talented enough to make them hurt over and over. The Roos midfield and forward 50 players must put on as much defensive pressure as expected from the defenders to put the Burra under as much pressure as possible.

Game Key
Mentality. Will last weeks game have scarred the Kangaroos, are the Burra flying so high that they will be too tough to bring down. Or will it work the opposite way and spur the Kangaroos on to gain revenge for last weeks performance and the Burra been up for so long that they are due for a down day?

Questions waiting to be answered
  • Can the Roos bounce back from last weeks loss?
  • Will the Burra have the man power to shut down the Kangaroos talls?
  • Will the Kangaroos have the discipline to put pressure on the Burra ball carriers?
Verdict
With everything on the line, this is the highest point of the Kangaroos Vs Diggers rivalry. Both sides would love nothing more than qualifying for the Grand Final with a win over the nemesis. If either side is focusing on next week they will miss the now. They both have an opportunity to create their own history here and will be desperate to do so. I couldn't think of a better Preliminary Final (Would be a stupendous GF though). Two rivals, giving absolutely everything they have to make it through to next week. Bring on this game, it is going to be a corker!!!

Re: RDFL 2010 Season - Preliminary Final

That is a great summary of the game it should be a beauty id like to think the Kangas would win this game fairly easy but i have not seen diggers play at all if sunbury play the footy Deano wants em to play and they Believe, they can beat anyone!!!it will be interesting who will be the marking Forward for the Roos id be bringing in Garth who's Starting to hit some Good Form Ground would suit his Style.Fishenden will be the key He just controls the game wins his taps 95% of the time if he can set up the Grubs Hatty Zahra McGovern i think diggers might cop it Roos By 25 just worried whos gonna kick kangas goals

It'll be interesting to see where Garth Ploog ends up.. the Reserves need a powerhouse forward to kick goals .. just who takes priority, the firsts or seconds?

It isn't even a question Chris, Seniors always takes priority, no matter the question... It's always the same answer...

The Senior side already has enough power marking forwards in my view, unfortunately for Garth, I think he will find it tough to break into the senior side...
