Macedon home by 6 points over Lancefield in a cracker !
Diggers held off a determined Kilmore to win by 11 points.
Sunbury victorious easily over Woodend.
Riddell had a pretty comfortable win over Broadford.
Melton got up in a bit of an upset over Wallan. &
Romsey prevailed in their quest for a Finals spot over Rockbank, but it all may NOW end in tears for the redneck Redbacks !

Macedon won by 6 pts over lancefield today, conditions were shocking with the wind.
Had channel 31 guys there today as well as the radio guys and have to say the boys from channel 31 did a great job considering they have very little knowledge of the players, perhaps the guys from the radio could take a leaf out of their book !

Predictions for next week, macedon to beat broadford to stay in the finals. Kilmore to beat woodend to stay in the 6
romsey to beat wallan
If diggers beat lancefield that will keep romsey out, or Wallan can surprise romsey to shape the finals.

Finals will be
Riddell Vs Lancefield @ Sunbury
Sunbury Vs Romsey/Macedon @ Rockbank
Kilmore Vs Macedon/Diggers @ Wallan

Romsey win, Macedon win, Diggers lose = Kangaroos Vs Romsey
Romsey win, Macedon win, Diggers win = Kangaroos Vs Diggers/Macedon depending on final percentage which Macedon should make up...

So not so straight forward.

Ah did he really...well Jamesy was happy to help out but haven t caught up with him about it all yet...and the kicking has only gotton worse :( hopefully it ll be back for this weekend...or first week of finals at worst

Sheaf is the Travis Cloke of Kilmore! :D

A big IF, but
Diggers win
Romsey win and should
Macedon win and should
Woodend win
Kilmore finish 7th.

Certainly a chance..

I see it as unlikely though....

I find it interesting that the hopes of the finals for the Redbacks in 2010 almost rest solely in the hands of Lancefield...

They surely couldn't... Could they ;)

Considering they beat them by 50 points last time, I think I'd be telling a few guys to rest up this weekend ...

if lancefield do tank and lose to diggers by 4-5 goals, can sunbury win by enough to steal second??

they play rockbank, if they win by 100-120pts would it be enough, or is the % difference out of reach??

despite their hate for romsey, it would be risky to flirt with losing second spot and potentially face a team like macedon in an elimination final with a losing streak.

Dont tell me, the "TANK" is on ???
The Romsey/Lancefield rivalry hits a new high !

You can't tell footballers not to try, but you can give some of the older heads a break, give some kids a taste of senior footy and set yourself for a big final. Is that tanking? If so, I'm not against it.

I would love to see the look on Romsey's faces when Lancefield name this side on Thursday night:

B: P. Cook, S. Stevenson, M. Crozier.
HB: R. O'Meara, G. Caton, A. Andrews.
C: R. Cini, M. Bowden, J. House.
HF: L. Hussey, M. Burkett, L. Thompson.
F: A. Moedt, M. Grigsby, B. Richey.
R: B. John, D. Rebecchi, C. Furness.

Priceless.

Also, I noticed Luke Maunsell and Ben Talbot had a run in Lancefield's reserves on Saturday. No best or goal kickers were listed. How did they go?

I know that was Talbot's third game in the magoos, so he should qualify for finals, while Maunsell was coming back after a fairly lengthy break.

If Diggers Rest beat Lancefield 90-50 and Sunbury beat Rockbank 150-40, then both sides would finish on about 146%.

Lancefield FNC 16 14 2 1401 902 155.32 % 56
Sunbury Kangaroos FNC 17 13 4 1403 1018 137.82 % 52

Depending on yesterdays scoreline lancefield percentage could have dropped a little as scores have not been entered on the website but as is it is 17.5% difference the roos would have to win by 20 goals plus keeping rockbank to a minimum, and would need diggers lancefield to be a high scoring game.

Personally i couldn't see them losing it, definately not on their big home ground

Just want to send a shout out to big Thommo from Diggers who suffered a serious injury yesterday and will spend a couple of days in hospital..

All the best and get well soon mate... :thumbsu:

Was anyone at Centals ground today for the junior finals? I was watching Melton and Darley but at half time went across to look at the junior game between Melton and South, there was no trouble or nothing when i was there. But at 3/4 time whilst I was at the huddle for the senior game my missus heard someone in the crowd saying the coppers had been called over to Centrals ground.. Anyone know what had happened? No one over at the senior ground seemed to concerned so im tipping it may not have been anything too bad.

Was a pleasure to see a really hard fought contest at Diggers Rest on Saturday in difficult conditions. The wind, as it would have at most of the weekends contests certainly played its part on the contest, but both sides really put on a great show.

The first quarter saw the Burra kicking with the scoring end. Early stages of the quarter though, the Blues held up well and it looked as though the Burra were going to have a tough time scoring, at times they looked to lack a big target deep and they blazed away long with the ball, Steve Ruane being the only real target and the Blues were able to get numbers to most contests. Stuart Clarke was in everything early, setting up many of the Burra drives forward, inaccurate kicking at goal when they did get opportunity looked like it might cost the Burra, Ruane did look the most likely though, and with a couple of opening quarter goals looked to be the danger man along with Clarke. Travis Hede was doing a great job on Sims, while Tom Gleeson was on top in his battle with Matt Robertson. The Blues only had one real chance for the quarter which they were able to capitilize on with Guy Booker kicking a nice goal.
The second quarter was where the concern might have come for the Burra. But in the early going they held sway, the first 15 minutes of the quarter they had kept Kilmore to one goal and managed to kick one themselves and when a controversial decision on a McCabe snap at goal looked as though it had gone through, the Burra had the upper hand, but the goal umpire was overruled, awarding a behind and the momentum swung. The Blues started to get on top and the big man up forward was starting to look dangerous, he kicked a nice snap goal to boot his 3rd and the Blues finished the quarter off full of running, 5 goals for the quarter gave them a slight lead at half time.
The third term looked stagnant early, there wasn't much in the game as the Blues tried to lock down the term, but a booming goal from Bevan Green from behind the centre circle opened the game up, the Burra managed 4 goals for the quarter with the key players starting to make an impact, Brad Sluggett was starting to run, Cole Laurie was giving plenty of drive off the half back line, Sims was starting to get his hands on it at key moments and Stuart Clarke continued to rack up possession. Inaccuracy though, still kept the Blues in the game, the question was, would the Burra rue this in the last term.
The final term was an arm wrestle. Robertson was still struggling to have an influence, while his direct opponent dominated the quarter. The Blues just couldn't seem to use the wind to any effect, bombing at goal rather than setting the ball up. James took a strong mark and kicked a beautiful snap goal to give them hope, but a strong mark to Gleeson in the goal square followed by a goal gave Diggers breathing space again. Continued wasteful foray's forward mounted the pressure on the Blues comeback and when Gleeson kicked his second for the quarter, a ripping goal from 35 out against the wind, the Burra had it in the bag.
The jubilation around the ground was unfortunately short lived when the result of the Macedon game filtered through, but the Burra will no doubt give everything they have as they always do and leave no stone unturned in an effort to play finals football.

Votes

3 - Stuart Clarke (DR) - Didn't make the Burra's best, but was in the game all day, had plenty of the football and at times was almost a one man wall across the middle of the ground.

2 - Tom Gleeson (DR) - Shut down Robertson and played a major role in the final term, fantastic performance.

1 - Jason Mancini (Kil) - The Blues best, was probably between him and Hede, Mancini gets the tick for his clearance work.

What I learned from Round 17
  • This weeks games will have so much interest surrounding them, with 4 sides battling out 3 spots.
  • There will be talk all week, and anyone involved with Lancefield would deny it, most of the clubs in the finals would love to see it, but no one could ever prove it because of the Burra and the way they play their football, but seriously, would Lancefield be that concerned if they dropped this weeks game to the Burra???
  • The Redbacks, along with Riddell, are the form side of the competition, but will their early season form come back to bite them, their hopes lie in the hands of others, but they have no one to blame but themselves.
  • Kilmore could miss, I didn't even pick it up, they are now equal on games with the other 3, if they all win, and somehow the Hawks can give that one big last hurrah, they could be saying bye bye to finals. What a turn around.
  • This years finals series could be one of the best we, as supporters, could see in a long long time..... :thumbsu:

It’s not the biggest issue, it’s the biggest mistake! Both clubs, Melton and Melton South, have chosen not to be closely aligned with their juniors for pathetic excuses and immature bickering! And it comes from both sides, juniors and seniors. Now if I was still with Melton South, the first thing I would fix in the club is to become better involved in junior footy, on and off the field. (You can have that bit of advice for free!) Imagine, if both BFL clubs joined forces with their juniors then the so called ‘dynasty’ as you put it, would have lasted longer and you would have got more than that one premiership. (Sorry, that is not a dynasty!!)

Centrals have been closely aligned with the juniors for the past few years and in the planning stages of going forward. We have a bunch of parents that not only want to see their kids grow up in a healthy environment, but they also want their kids to be involved in the senior games. We are disadvantaged to the ‘premier’ clubs because you have had juniors for many years. I can’t wait to get under 18’s up and running!! Now let’s just ask a few senior clubs out in RDFL land and see if they’re proactive with the development of the junior bodies… I bet they are! Romsey played a few under 18 players against us and they did well. Macedon’s senior team are made up of many kids that won the under 18 premiership many years ago. Lancefield continue to produce local young players and Sunbury are starting to benefit from their junior program… Not that hard to work out!

And as a former player of South, I couldn't care if they survive. I loved that club more than anything when I was a teenager but when you're not wanted or welcomed, you know where to head. I don't speak for Pig but I know I’ll never return there and from discussions, I only assume he wouldn’t either. You see, people only care about a club when the club cares back! And you can always make new friends! Centrals is my team and I think of all the families (both senior and junior) and the friendships this club has generated that would be ruined if South were to come back in. I will fight to make sure that this doesn’t happen! The RDFL is awesome the way it is, keep it that way!! :thumbsu::thumbsu:

obviousley couldnt get a game up at sth ?? stick to netball princess
by the way who is going to caoch you guys next season ?
the word is that Pig wont put his hand up again :thumbsu::thumbsu:

It wasn't about getting a game pal, I was smart enough to know that there were too many good players running around back then.
It is obviously up to Pig but I know he'll be at Centrals next year ;)
