Omnipotent obviously a riddle supporter I've been to many games this year watched riddle will say they look good but will be plan to break them down think as I said shrewd coaches talk together no other three caches well they communicate think riddle need to find a few tricks there numbers behind the ball is what creates there run but wont be allowed to do that come finals

Well I've seen them ALL but one game this season & I don't know about them needing to find a few tricks. They DONT need tricks !!!
They have more versatility this season than I have seen from a Bomber outfit in ages !
95% of the players can play anywhere on the ground on ANY given day.
That is the massive feature of this Riddell side this year.
So good luck trying to break 'em down. Cause the Riddell side that ran out last week was different to the one that ran out yesty & will more than likely be different again to the side that takes on Diggers next week. I mean I'm talking structure & game plan here. Its horses for courses with them. A week to week, quarter by quarter, minute by minute strategy based on what they need to get the job done !
Yes, they have been caught on the hop a couple of times this year, but it's taken them very little time to react with an effective counter. They have so many options now !........................................ And then they proceed on their merry way to another victory !!!

It's good a
So they play sides riddled with injuries they won't no what to break down come finals the reason I attend theses games is to watch the game plan etc you may have seen me in there rooms now and then we no there good but as they say if they bleed they can be killed September will be intresting

Riddell are home in my opinion, so it's theirs to lose from here :p

I still rate Diggers VERY highly Doon'. I know they fell over yesty, but when we last played them in round 1 there was only a kick in it. And that was at our ground with home ground advantage & all. It was a fantastic contest, & the lead changed several times. Diggers Rest are a very good side that go about their business WITHOUT to much lip. (unlike OTHERS on here !) They WERE the best side last season by a mile in my humble opinion & I still have them on the same line as Riddell this year. I'm definitely sure NO lid will be coming off at Bomberland as long as Diggers Rest & Brent Tuckey are in the 2013 RDFL Premiership mix !

And versatility is a very very hard thing to nail down & counter.
Good luck with your spying !

Oh & I'll bet Riddell OR Diggers DONT use injuries as an excuse next week either !!!

Exactly same line did they play off ???

Actually the kangaroos are not winging re injuries nor romsey but you have to worry about romsey and what's to come back we will be watching them carefully

Didn't state that was pointing out that I believe riddle should have won by a 100 that the romsey kids showed lots of ticker

I thought the Riddell kids wound down nicely in the last & did enough to make a point...........A 10 goal win is a ten goal win, I'll take it !!!

Oh &................... Especially with ALL the outs WE have !!!

Any way diggers favourites last year missed out long way to go as they say a week is a long tie in footy two months even longer

Got a suggestion do the umpires review the games videos from red onion to help improve

Wht do we think of finals week one sat day final sat night final or Friday night ??

Some umpires are using the footage to review their games. All senior umpires were asked earlier in the season to watch at least 1 game and forward a number of questions to the coach. Between BFL and RDFL games I have watched 7 games this season doing a full review on each. Also a number of times my fellow umpire has also watched the game and we have been working on improvements together. Yesterdays diggers vs lancefield game was filmed so i'll watch that too once its up. If you want a laugh, check out the 20 min or so mark of the 1st quarter when i end up flat on back. Sure to entertain.

Thanks OMNI, i think most of our panel has worked pretty hard this year. With the number of umpires we have lost and injuries we have had i think we have done quite well this season. Sorry to hear that you didn't have a pleasant experience yesterday Doona but i have no doubt they had their best intentions on the day. At this stage of the season we do extra 3's and panels at times get put together to give those that will be running finals together a chance to gel. If you have an issue you can email our coaching staff. Obviously if its just a whinge (not saying this is) it may be ignored but if its constructive criticism it may stimulate something we need to work on!

Can I ask you about the holding the ball rule or incorrect disposal rule O.Ump. That one "Seems" to be the one that is causing a few head aches for ALL concerned & there seems to be NO consistency of late with its adjudication ??? & also prior opportunity seems to be a VERY subjective thing indeed ???
It seems to me that a good tackle now is "Rarely" rewarded ???

I assure you it isn't a whinge, and I will make contact with Michael whether it bites me on the bum or not.

As every person is different it is hard to have everyone on exactly the same page when it comes to decision making, especially holding the ball. I must admit, i don't pay a lot of holding the ball decisions while some other guys can be more technical, but you try to work it out with your fellow umpire so you are on the same page and are being consistent. What we are looking for is the guys intent, is he playing the ball or did he just drag it in. I hate nothing more than a guy who waits for the other guy to take it just he can tackle and try and get a free. So i reward the guy playing the ball. Next is prior oppurtunity, even the afl seems to have backed off this one. We give the players a few steps/second(s) before they are deemed to have prior oppurtunity. If they have had prior oppurtunity then they must dispose immediately. Also a player without prior must make an attempt to dispose by knocking it out, struggling in the tackle etc, if he chooses to just hold it then he will be penalised. Also a player who has an arm free will be deemed to have had prior oppuntunity and must attempt to handpass or kick when tackled. If an attempt is made in this case when he didn't have a real prior oppurtunity then we lean towards a play on call.

Ground conditions is also a factor, we will give longer before a player is deemed to have had prior oppurtunity on a wet muddy day than compared to a dry clean footy game!

Hope than helps!

Great post Orange Ump. I am particularly happy to see that you don't penalise the player actually going for the ball. Good to see some common sense prevail. Can you help us out with reasons why players can be yellow carded? I've seen a few this year where I reckon that a free kick or 50m penalty would suffice.

Yeah, well done O.Ump some fantastic feedback there. Can you pencil us in for your services for the rest of the season please ??? ;)
I too like your thoughts about NOT penalising the player going for the ball. :thumbsu:
Good question too Blueboy, I also often wonder about the reasons WHY some players get yellow carded & agree whole heartedly with you that a free kick or 50m penalty SHOULD be used more often in these cases. the "Yellow Trigger" gets pulled far too often in my opinion !!!

The good old yellow card. Much debate could be had over the yellow card. I must admit I preferred when the yellow card without report was only available in u/18's and reserves. I am of the belief that a send off should generally be a reportable offence however I have used it 2 times in the last few weeks and if it wasn't for a final siren would have been 3. 2 guys for wrestling last Sunday which was used as a cool off as they were inciting the melee that occurred and couldn't pay a free or 50 as they were both doing it. These are the 1st times I've used it without report since the send off was introduced to senior level.

The yellow card is a cool off period which can be used for multiple things. Generally for something untoward that you think borders on a reportable offence and you want to cool the person off before things go any further. It can be used for umpire abuse or constant disputing decisions, incidents like the wrestling where I sent the 2 guys off, inciting a melee which would have been my 3rd and many other things. Obviously it depends on how the umpire interprets the situation which can be a split second decision. Too send off a player shouldn't be a decision that is taken lightly though. You are right that a free kick or 50 should be sufficient in most cases but sometimes it just doesn't cut it.

All this Umpire love is making me dizzy..................... I may need a Bex & a good lie down !!!o_O

Love for Yeendy on the radio, love for us umpires, are you having an out of body experience or something OMNI. I suggest you seek urgent medical care.

I must admit after hearing Yeendy's calls linked to the taped games he is doing a great job. How he knows the names and talents of so many players in this league baffles me. I just want him to throw in a few Denis cometti "centremetre perfect" somewhere along the line.

Don't be afraid to use some punctuation pal:). Then maybe we will all understand what the hell you are talking about.

Well if you like that Mr Orange, your gunna love this.
Here's some more of - "OMNI'S out of Body.....Umpire Experiences"

One of the Field Umpires yesty blew his whistle in anticipation of an easy Riddell mark. Riddell player spills the grab but ALL players stop dead in their tracks. Umpire comes rushing in with the Romsey players protesting that it was NOT a mark. Umpire can be clearly heard saying "Yes I know, it was my mistake, I will ball it up"
Great work by the Umpire in question. These are the type of things that can earn an Umpire......Any Umpire, a massive amount of respect from the players !!!

Also whilst I'm tossing bouquets your blokes way, I'd like to make mention of the 2 young people running the boundary yesterday. One was in fact a young girl. It can be terribly frustrating for Ruckmen & players alike at throw in's when the ball is tossed in "Off Line" or too flat ! These 2 young boundary Umps kept up with the pace of the game all day & tossed the ball in brilliantly. Good on you guys.........& gal...........Sometimes people notice when things get done RIGHT !!! :thumbsu:

Excuse me now please...........I've gotta go take my medication now before I completely go mad !!!

So the words to the effect of "you gotta be joking" without even a raised voice let alone swear words wouldn't deem a yellow in your eyes???
