I googled "what way should an AFL oval run", I found zero.

Don't worry about it pal, I'll set up the "Riddell Pavilion" on the opposite side of the railway line & we will keep tossing the ball back over the tracks onto the ground every time it gets blown over there, (hope we can keep it up all day !) in an attempt to give this top of the table clash some sort of continuity so the rest of the fans that make the trip over for this match get their money's worth !!!
Don't know that I can do much about the problem of the Umpires thinking the train whistles are the official siren though pal. Nor can I do much about the deafening noise of doof doof music coming from the "street rats" at the adjacent skate park !..............Sorry pal. :(

Qualifying Final
Riddell Vs Diggers Rest

Ian Cowie Reserve - Rockbank

Riddell (15 wins, 1 loss)
What a season it was from the Bombers, from their Round 1 win against the Burra, they were close to unstoppable over the course of the season. The biggest improvement in the squad coming from the recruits, Paul Sahlberg, Ethan Foreman and Ant Sammut have been huge inclusions for the Bombers along with the continued growth and improvement from young guns Matt Darby and James Nolan. The club couldn't have asked for a better result for the season.

Diggers Rest (14 wins, 2 losses)
The Burra set out to avenge last season, where there is no doubt the club truly believed it should have finished the season off better and at the moment, everything is going to plan. Despite dropping the early game to Riddell and the shock loss to Lancefield. The Burra have topped up their list perfectly, added some further midfield depth and learnt from the mistakes of last year to play an exciting brand of football.

Previous Games:
The Bombers drew first blood between these two sides, but only by the skin of their teeth in Round 1 of the season, these two recent rivals went toe to toe all day, before the Bombers picked up a 5 point win. Ricky Elliott booted 4 goals for the winners, while Matt Darby and Paul Sahlberg were named the best players, Brent Tuckey booted 4 for the Burra, with John Ryan and Brett Caton named the best players.
The second time around was a bit of a procession, the Burra blew the game open in the first half booting 6 goals to 1 and kept the Bombers to 2 goals for the day, whilst the Burras booted 12. Tuckey booted 3 for the Burra, while Tom Evans and Craig Marshall were the Burras best, for the Bombers it was Kane North named as the best player on the ground on a day they would rather forget.

This Game.
The Bombers key weapon is their ability to win contested football, in the games I have seen so far this season, the Bombers are heads and shoulders above the opposition when it comes to winning the ball in tight, they then have the players that know where to spread and open the opposition up defensively, if the Bombers are allowed to dictate the game through possession, then they become very difficult to stop. In the last game between these two, the Burra broke even in contested ball, it meant that the Bombers players that like to spread early from a contest and be a dangerous target were caught out of position more often than not.
The Burras and the Kangaroos are the two best sides at covering an opposition spread on transition or turnover, whilst this is possibly the weakest area for the Bombers, the fact that Riddell have been so strong at winning the ball in tight has meant that most sides this season haven't had a chance to expose that fact, that is what makes this game so interesting.
Key Match-Ups
James Climas Vs Craig Marshall - Whilst much of the focus of this game will be on the forwards, the battle is going to be won in the contest, these two are as strong contested ball winners as there are in the competition and it will be a great contest to watch.
Brayden Allen Vs Craig Thompson - If the Bombers rucks can get clear hand on the footy and give the mids a chance to run forward unrestricted, it could be a long day for the Burra, Thompson reads the ball as well as any tall in the competition when he plays behind the ball.
Ethan Foreman Vs Dylan Hannan - Foreman is likely to get the tag this week, his year has been outstanding coming in for the Bombers and can find the ball inside or out, but it's his outside work that makes him the most dangerous.

Key Players
Riddell:

Paul Sahlberg - For anyone that hasn't had the chance to watch the Bombers recruit this season, do yourself a favour and get along to Ian Cowie, his ball use by foot is devastating and his ability to find the ball is exceptional, but it is his use and decision making in traffic that sets him apart.
Diggers Rest:
Brandon Kilty - Could be the x-factor for the Burra, as a small forward he has pace and ability to keep his feet, strong over the ball and a great kick at goal. He has missed a few weeks through injury this year, but is one to keep an eye on this week if he gets in.

Result:
Much of this game will result on the Burras ability to draw even at the contest, that is the Bombers strength, but the Burra have the advantage in most other areas, their ability to spread both offensively and defensively is stronger than that of the Bombers. The other area of strength for the Bombers is their ability to use the ball more efficiently than their opponents, but that has much to do with the fact that their players get more space outside of the contest than their opponents. Either way, this will be an outstanding contest to open the finals series.

Freak!

I hope everyone is happy with the weather at their respective venues today. :)

I've just left Clancy Reserve and no complaints there, the sun even is attempting to poke through. Maybe the happiness may depend on whether OMNI's team wins or loses :D

Diggers won the 3rds in 5-point thriller, the 2's (Romsey v Macedon) was looking a pretty even contest when I left.

I know Macedon is no Riddell or Diggers Rest, but look out for Romsey. Massive second half suggests the Redbacks are a genuine chance of beating Riddell.

Genuinely feel sorry for the Bombers. No advantage for finishing on top of the ladder. Time to go back to the top 5. Finishing third shouldn't be the easiest passage to the grand final.

Firstly well done to all the winners. I agree with Matt comments about Riddell and no real advantage finishing first, WHAT my real question is that what the fu#$ were the RDFNL board thinking when giving the rest of the finals games out. Is it true you have to be on the so called BOARD to get your club a final, Yes guys I am disappointed that ROMSEY DOES NOT HAVE A FINAL you can all see that but as we all keep saying you want the best players playing on the best grounds and surfaces in the league. We asked a question today, the response we got today was "our netball court was not up to scratch" it is a cop out and just another excuse of bullshit... when 4 weeks ago we ask the league "did we need to do anything to the courts to host a final" their response was "no, they're fine"......IT IS A DISGRACE THAT THE ROMSEY PARK, WHICH IS IN PRISTINE CONDITION, IT'S A PICTURE AND UP TO AFL STANDARD maybe not that good.... and guys i am not saying let Romsey play there!!!!! but surely there should be a game playing there this week, the week after, or even the week after that???????whats your thoughts playing at Melton out of portables. what a disgrace for our league..... dont bring anyone from the Bendigo,Ballarat,Murray,or the EDFL....... the RDFNL would look like a laughing stock, you pack of people looking after their own backyards not the players and the spectators............................ THAT"S MY OPINION I HOPE PEOPLE CAN HAVE THERE"S DISGRACE

Pretty sure in some comps that do a top 6, 1st v 2nd have week one off and meet in a 2nd semi. Both week one games are elimination affairs with the two victors playing the 1st semi the following week. Can't happen here though, would mean one less lot of gate takings.

What was the wash-up at Boardman and Rockbank? Romsey were pretty impressive after half time, and I reckon most thought with their injury woes throughout the back-end of the year they'd run out of petrol tickets but that certainly wasn't the case, meaning the Redbacks are a big big chance at Riddell this coming weekend.

Was it at all possible to have the two venue's (Melton and Riddell) listed as week 2 grounds and then waited to see who plays where? Either way the best 4 teams are left and all of them have definite claims I reckon ..... 3 weeks to go and $hit (finally) has just got fair dinkum :thumbsu:

A great day at Boardman. Rupo won the 18s easily over kangas, they then ran over the top of the Kangas in the 2s and put up a great fight in the seniors, goal for goal most of the day, but the last quarter saw the Kangas get over the top of them. Rupo ran and spread the ball very well, and physical pressure was great, There were some nervous Kangas in the crowd, but i think experience won in the end.
Diggers beating Riddell could be good thing for the Roos. IMO. Sunbury match up well with Diggers and Diggers match up well with Riddell. Results show Sunbury may not match up too well against Riddell.
Romsey, wow! looks like they could be the smokey now. Pedo obviously held back all year, come finals looks like game on.

Couldn't agree more Connalinko. The work by Rob McIntyre and many others to secure funding and build plans for the new facilities at Romsey are virtually being wasted by the RDFL. Walked on Romsey's ground last month and although a little patchy in the goal squares (a problem at most grounds), the surface was in good nick, better than Lancefield at the same time.

Not sure what the process of hosting a final is – as in do clubs have to make an application – but Romsey should be hosting a major final, if not the grand final.

As for the top six Doona, definitely the first two teams should get the week off if they want to persist with the system. My preference has always been a top five. It's the best of all the finals systems and correctly rewards the minor premier. The top six does not. A top five means all games can then be watched by RDFL supporters.

Week 1: Qualifying final (2 v 3) on Saturday. Elimination final (4 v 5) on Sunday.
Week 2: Second semi-final (1 v Winner of QF) on Saturday. First semi-final (Loser of QF v Winner of EF) on Sunday
Week 3: Preliminary final (Loser of 2nd SF v Winner of 1st SF) on Saturday
Week 4: Grand final (Winner of 2nd SF v Winner of Prelim) on Saturday/Sunday

Just want to say a big thanku to Doona,& the Kilmore footy club for putting on a great day over at Kilmore :thumbsu: well done guys, 21 deg,,,,,,To all the doubters and criticizers of the redbacks through out this season we will keep turning up like today backs against the wall and play the footy you need to in this part of the year  Back our coach, back our players, back our committee, and back our supporters.......... we moved on rubbish,...... now for a big game V Riddell it will be a cracker i think, also well done to AL Meldrum and to Smithy and the Macedon footy club on a great year:thumbsu: have we seen the last of AL as coach of Macedon i hope not,,,,,,,,,,,
