little chat going on considering this weekends quality match ups

For mine the bombers to bounce back and diggers to get the job done.

All the best to the final four - clearly the best four sides all year,

Hope all players get through injury free.

Hey guys!
We're super looking forward to a massive game out at Melton Centrals tomorrow.. what a day it promises to be.. the atmosphere, excitement and work from the Junior committee to run an amazing day on Sunday for the junior grand final was second to none.. it was something to be excited about and if the Senior committee can top it.. with perfect weather on the cards and an ideal playing surface.. this has the makings of being the best final of the series.. and thats in all due respect to the other venues.. We have some amazing games on the second biggest day of finals for the series with a spot in the big one up for grabs.. there is plenty to get excited about especially since its been many years since the club last held a final..
The juniors more than handled the big crowd last Sunday.. we'll be on the air from 9.30am on Saturday and Sunday on 88.1FM at the ground, covering all six football games from first bounce of the day until the last and we cannot wait to get down to the Centrals and Riddell!

Not sure what I am missing but the sportbets odd look wrong.

Diggers - $2.10
Riddell - $2.35
Romsey - $3.65
Sunbury - $5.00

Diggers should be fav but no way would I have Sunbury the outsider.

Load up :D

2nd Semi Final
Diggers Rest Vs Sunbury Kangaroos

MacPherson Park - Melton

Diggers Rest
The Burra are backing up after a hard fought physical encounter with Riddell at Ian Cowie last week that would have taken it's toll on both sides. But the Burra have slowly set themselves all year for this time of year and those exact type games, they have tweaked the game style again this season and have bought in specific type players to fit the style they want to play, these players played a role in the Burras line up last season, but have taken on much more meaningful roles in 2013, Steve Fogarty and Mark & Steven Freeth have added outside run and spread to an already dangerous Burra line up, and finding the ball on the spread means more space for these players to deliver to Brent Tuckey up forward.

Sunbury Kangaroos
The Roos had to dig deep against the Sharks last week as they were pushed to the limits by a young side with nothing to lose. The Roos midfield stepped up in the last quarter, especially Adam Walsh who was pushed into the midfield to add grunt. Tie Cuffe was excellent all day, whilst the Roos big men certainly made a difference to the contest. In the end, the scoreboard reflected a comfortable win, but it wasn't all one way traffic for the Roos. There is no doubt that Chris Meacham and the Sunbury coaching staff have work to do, as the Roos seemed to lack a little of the "spark" that they displayed in last years finals series, but the Roos cannot be written off, a win this week will certainly have the spark back and a crack at back to back flags.

This Game.
The local rivalry will no doubt heat up, with these two sides desperate to lock away a coveted spot in the Grand Final. The Burras and Roos have had some cracking contests in recent seasons, including a 2 point win to the Burra in their only meeting this year, way back in Round 2.
I see these the Burra as the best transition side in the competition at the moment, they have the ability to both lock down an opponent as well as open them up on the turnover, this is where players like Sluggett, Fogarty, Freeth and Kilty are at their most dangerous, whilst their defense has remained miserly over the course of the season, they will be tested by a side with a giant forward line and multiple goal scoring options.
The Kangaroos strength is no doubt their ability to find any avenue to goal, all of their forward line is capable of popping up and kicking 4 goals and putting the Roos in the contest, their spread of attacking options makes it hard to shut all of them down.

Key Match-Ups
Tuckey Vs Gregory - The best key forward against the best key back in 2013 should be a cracking contest, being that the game is at Maccy Park, means that Tuckey is likely to play deep for the entire game whilst the Burra avoid CHF. This brings Gregory into the contest.
Harvey Vs Powell - Harvey could be the key to the Burras in this contest, he has flown under the radar since joining the club and the Roos will need to pay him attention, Powell is a fantastic contested ball winner and uses it well by foot.
Caton Vs Fishenden/Cuffe - The big Burra defender has a big role this week, not only to shut down the dangerous resting ruckman for the Roos, but winning his own ball off the half back line, Caton uses the ball long and well, but if the Roos have a forward on top, he can sacrifice that to lock down.

Key Players
Diggers Rest:
Brad Sluggett - The pacy wingman finds plenty of space and uses it dangerously going forward whilst in that space. If he starts to find plenty of the ball, his confidence will be up and he will be tough to lock down.
Sunbury Kangaroos
Phil Kaufmann - This time last year, he had a break out performance that saw the Kangaroos into a Grand Final, he struggled at times last week to get into the contest and was down on his output, the Roos need him to play well as a forward target.

Result:
Another ripping contest between these two sides this promises to be. The Burras have been outstanding all season and are desperate to atone for the "premiership they lost" in 2012. The Roos have motored along much like they did last year, can they now be at their most dangerous, there is no doubt they are capable, but they will need to lift from the performance of last week, which no doubt they will.. Get up to Maccy Park and hold onto your hats, a real tough inside contest awaits us this week in what promises to be one of the games of the year.

The Burras have been outstanding all season and are desperate to atone for the "premiership they lost" in 2012,........................ Are you for real?

Chill my friend, I am only talking about how they would see it... ;)

You have to play in one to lose one!

That's true.. But there is no doubt a feeling of a "missed chance" in the Burras camp, that is what I was alluding to.

1st Semi Final
Riddell Vs Romsey
Riddell Reserve - Riddell

Riddell
After a brutal match up with the Burra, the Bombers get no respite this week as another brutal match up awaits. The Bombers will follow the path of other successful sides in recent seasons though after a loss in either the first or second week in finals meaning entry through the Preliminary Final if they can get a win this week. The positive for the Bombers is that, like the Redbacks, they got another game under the belt for many of the players that had missed games during the season, and at a finals intensity, thats a positive.

Romsey
The Redbacks sent the remaining teams in the finals race a message last week, they are well and truly in the hunt. In doing so, they also got valuable game time into some definite keys in their line up. Shaun Austin returned and was at his brilliant best, Cam Streeter continues to get better and Steve Burlak showed he will be a tough roadblock for opponents in this finals series. This wasn't just a flogging handed out, it was the perfect tune up for the weeks to come, and for the Redbacks, that starts this week against the Bombers.

This Game.
Everything has been tipped on it's head after last week. A brutal game for the Bombers will mean some sore players coming into this game, whilst the Redbacks confidence will be sky high..
The Bombers strength is their ability to win contested ball, they were matched in that area last week by the Burra and the Redbacks smashed their opposition in that field. The Redbacks must win that area of the game to get isolated match ups inside their forward 50, if the Bombers are allowed to work back easily, then they cover space too well for the Redbacks forwards to win the ball in dangerous positions, so a confident Redbacks breaking from a stoppage is critical in this match up.
The Bombers will be looking to play this game on their terms, backing their ability to win stoppages as they have done all year and ensuring that they slow the Redbacks ball movement to get numbers behind the ball, the Bombers strength this year has been their use of the ball forward from the midfield, where Paul Sahlberg, Ethan Foreman and Aaron Blade off the half back line being especially important.

Key Match-UpsNolan Vs Burlak - The young Nolan has had a breakout year for the Bombers and caused many a headache for key defenders, Burlak made an excellent return for the Redbacks recently and is a key in the air and with his long use of the ball from the back half.
Blade Vs Farmer - Could be a key match up if it happens, Blade's creativity off half back is a key for the Bombers, whilst Farmer has the ability to turn a game with quick goals. Could be one to watch.
Paul Sahlberg Vs Streeter - Both can win the ball inside and outside the contest and have the ability to use the ball to set up an attack, expect both to be key players in the result.

Key Players
Riddell:
Ethan Foreman - Has had a fantastic year in his first season for the Bombers, explodes forward of a contest which makes him an extremely dangerous opponent, is capable of winning the ball in any area.
Romsey:
Shaun Austin - One of the best players in the competition, his ability to win the contested ball and use it in traffic is almost unmatched. If allowed to run free, could break the game apart.

Result:
These two sides have played in some outstanding finals games in recent years, both are perennial finalists and will be up for this game, the first bounce could be a monumental explosion!! If the Bombers are allowed to control contested ball, they will gain control and be hard to beat, but if the Redbacks draw even at those contests, they will have spread of their own that will be tough to contain. This will no doubt be a fantastic finals contest, as matches between these two always are.

The Elephant man, why? Because his a freak!

Final Scores - Diggers Rest 8. 10. 58. Def' Sunbury 8. 6. 54.

Shocking display put in by the two younger Umpires today, very nearly cost the better team on the day the victory !
& whilst on the Umpires........... What the HELL are you thinking O'Keefe ??? Not only do you give our "WORST" Umpire a Final last week in the reserves, but you reward what was just another of his usual pathetic grandstanding performances with a gig in tomorrows two's Elimination Final.........Weak as piss ! How often must we put up with this embarrassment to the RDFL brand ???

Was there three umpires ?
Always have Said these are your show case games either you have the cattle to umpire if you don't then bring them in from outside ie vfl
The biggest issue is that the games need to flow and they don't the communication between player and umpire needs to be one that the player understands how the umpire will call the game and this needs to be installed in the normal season
They change come finals and it frustrates everyone !

I must have been watching a different game but I thought the umpiring the board was particularly pretty good.. there was only one or two that were a little off-side but all in all.. a great effort.. then again, we were fixed on eight hours of football in fine detail non-stop.. I take my hats off to the groups .. well done :)

Yes indeed there does appear to be a significant change of late.
I guess some of our umpires (the less experienced younger ones it seems) are doing ALL they can to get noticed !
With ONE glaring exception of course. But then again, that old attention seeking grandstander has been a law unto himself for way way too long !
Recently it looks a lot like some of our younger umpires are doing everything they can to stand out. Obviously in an attempt to garner some sort of advantage or extra favour in they eyes of O'Keefe & his coaching/selection panel towards getting a gig at the BIG day in September.

I read with much interest today in the RDFL footy record O'Keefe's blurb about HOW umpires are selected for our Grand Final. I must say it surprised the shit outa me !
Do you know WHAT is the number 1 criteria for a gig for an umpire to be selected for an RDFL Grand Final.
NO, not performance or fitness or even experience, its..............wait for it !!!
The number ONE criteria is -.............. & I'm quoting him here -

1. Training Attendance and Match day Availability. (at least we now know HOW the old fart still gets a gig!)
Now you may be thinking performance, fitness & experience has gotta come next.........But NO !
The second most important criteria (according to umpires guru O'Keefe) for Grand Final selection is -
2. Coaching Session Attendance.
Fascinating !.......Turning up to shit gives you a head start in getting a gig at our Grand Final !

Yes he then goes on to nominate performance throughout the year & in Finals as his third & forth criteria respectively............Third & forth !!! o_O What are you thinking O'Keefe ???
I think I can pretty much speak for ALL the footy public out here O'Keefe when I say -
WE ALL WANT THE BEST PERFORMED UMPIRES DOING THE JOB !
That is the ONLY criteria we are interested in.
You just do your job & make it happen, ok ?
Don't you go ruling them out just because they've missed one of your training or coaching sessions or haven't kissed your arse in the appropriate manner.
Just get the best performed ones out on the park. Otherwise we could just end up with another fiasco Final like we had last year !.........& Nobody wants that !!!
