Shaun Sims is the skipper and Cole Laurie (ex Sunbury,Keilor) is the assistant coach.Bruton tried to play for Diggers at one stage this year but his knees wouldn't allow it from all reports.

Dasher there are (from my count and from speaking to Jeff Heritage and Andy Paige) 19 players who have played senior footy at Diggers Rest this season who were at the Burra at the end of 2004. I know they had a clean out but many of the under age and reserves players that have risen to the seniors were around back then.

Your probably about right but they were all either kids or reserves players back then.So yeah they were around but its a completely different side now.Heritage was one that came in after 2004 with Cole Laurie from Keilor.

He was a very good leader at wallan. Never shutting up on the field always directing traffic from the HBF which is what you need. Hope Diggers can go all the way this year. I would love to see them beat riddel in granny.

All the talk seems to be about how Riddell are going to win the flag.
Or how Diggers should give them a run for there money. Or how Sunbury well gel together and win the lot with the help of a certain A James. Maybe Woodend and Romsey should just pull out now and leave it up to the rest. Beware of the sleeping giant!:)

Dogga, Dont think anyone has written off Romsey or Woodend.. As far as I have read most people think that any of the top 5 could win the flag.. And they could.. People are just talking about the teams they are involved in.. The Woodend and Romsey guys have just gone a little quiet... :thumbsu:

Hey thats a bit rough! Don't worry about us Redbacks. We have rested a number of key players in the last couple of weeks to make sure they are right for the business end of the year. Half a dozen Under 18s have been given an opportunity in the last couple of weeks and only one, possibly two will be in the side come September.

As for the Hawks' fans, Woodend-Hesket have never been known to blow their own trumpet, but a win against Sunbury after the split round will see them crowing. Watch this space.

Refer back to posts made at the start of the season by Hawks fans on blowing thier own trumpet passion...

But regardless, I wasn't being harsh.. I was merely stating that the Romsey and Woodend supporters just haven't said alot on here in recent times.. Not having a shot at anyone at all.... I am one that believes that either of these two sides as well as the other 3 can win the flag at this stage.. Such is the eveness of this years competition.. Its brilliant...

my end of year ladder prediction:
1 riddell- 60
2 diggers- 60
3 woodend- 52
4 sunbury- 52
5 romsey- 40
6 kilmore- 38

in the finals......
diggers vs woodend:
sunbury vs romsey: this game could go either way

riddell vs diggers
woodend vs sunbury or romsey

diggers vs sunbury or romsey

Based on your ladder, I can only see a Riddell v Romsey or Sunbury grand final.

I think both Sunbury and Romsey will be too good for Diggers on the open spaces of Macedon's ground in the preliminary final. Riddell should make it if they finish on top of the ladder, as should Diggers if they finish on top spot.

disregard diggers at your own peril. To imply diggers rest dont like the wide open grounds shows that you havent watch diggers to many times this year , as they are one of the youngest , fittest sides, going around so they would enjoy the bigger grounds . But hey feel free to write diggers off u have the right 2 your opinion

We are always so quick to jump down someone's throat who expresses thier opinion in a negative sense against Diggers... News Flash, Diggers are not the be all and end all in our comp this year.. I agree with PP... Diggers are suited to the smaller grounds in the comp, they have struggled to have such an impact on the more spacious grounds in the comp.. And will continue to do so, alot of the Diggers premiership aspirations hinge on them gaining top spot and winning thier first final...

Can someone please inform me of the dates and grounds of all the finals matches.

KILMORE will host a finals match this season, after Riddell District Football League general manager Neill Sharpe made the announcement last week. It almost wasn’t to be for the Blues, who only won the rights to host a second week final after Diggers Rest pulled out of the race.
According to Mr Sharpe, the Blues were “in the mix” to host a final, but were aided by the fact that Diggers Rest withdrew their application. Kilmore president Dayson Carroll said the club was extremely happy with the final result. “It is a good result for the footy club, we knew that it was unlikely we’d get a final, but we decided to apply and we got one in the end,” he said.
It’s also good news for the Romsey and Lancefield fans, both clubs were successful in their application for a final. Lancefield will again host the RDFL Grand Final, making it five consecutive years for the Tigers.
Having the big game, which attracts thousands of fans, will be a big boost for the club’s bank balance after what has been a disappointing season at Tigerland.
Romsey was pleased to have their finals application approved, after missing out last season.

The full schedule of the RDFL’s finals are:
Week one: Saturday, September 2 — Melton Central; Sunday, September 3 — Riddell.
Week two: Saturday, September 9 — Romsey; Sunday, September 10 — Kilmore.
Preliminary final: Saturday, September 16 — Macedon.
Grand final: Sunday, September 24 — Lancefield.

Can anyone at the Woodend game on the weekend describe Mick Goodyears "miracle" goal in the last quarter?
Pretty much the last kick of the day.Wasn't really a miracle goal but was a good one.Quick snap from about 25 directly in front that curled back and just snuck inside the goal post after bouncing 5-10 metres.

Dont think he jumped down anyones throat. He merely stuck up fir his side the way everyone does.I do agree to a certain extent with you in that Diggers are a very physical side and like to play man on man and the smaller grounds help them do this.Dont think the bigger grounds are a death sentence for them though as they have plenty of runners its just not there preferred style.Finals as always will come down to who is up and running with injuries and form at the right time.

On a different topic do those finals dates have games set out for them eg: elimination/qualifying or will that be decided later.Romset getting a home final in the second week seems a fair chance.

So let me get this right. Woodend will make the finals but will lose to Diggers in week 1. Then they will play either Aaron James, i meen Sunbury (silly me!). Or they may have a chance of perhaps playing Romsey but will lose to either. Although they wont have the advantage of hosting a final i still find it amazing that they have not been rated by anyone. And as for your call of a Riddell/Diggers grand final. You are an absolute genious! Perhaps you could also predict that Jason Akermanis may not be at the Lions next year. Or that West Coast and Adelaide could also play off in the grand final.(now i've got you thinking).

Oh good, its been a while since we have had a sarcastic idiot posting on our thread.

So... Sunbury were no good before Aaron James.. Oops silly me.. They only defeated 3 of the top 4 without him, just a little stronger with him.
The prediction is exactly that.. A prediction.. Is he not allowed to? If you have come on here and think that it is going to be a Diggers Vs Riddell GF guaranteed you are a numscull before we even start...

Perhaps you could predict that you wont come back and make everyone on this thread dumber for the experiance of listening to you....:thumbsu:

So what are you apologising for??? The fact that you are bagging Dummy or the fact that your spelling is a disgrace???

Dummy would be ten times the footballer you are... Although you are hiding behind an alias.. So who would know......
