So my son (21) has just had his rental application for a joint in Joondalup approved. Moving out with 2 mates

Three out, one to go. Last one might take a while

Equal parts happy, sad and proud

These days getting them out by 21 sounds like a victory. Enjoy the quiet, I guess?

Also good on the landlord giving them a go. I've done it myself in the past, with both great success and at great expense when my house got trashed. Sometimes kids just need someone to give them a chance.

Landlords would be clamouring for tenants right now I imagine.

Yeah I suppose some are. The power is definitely with tenants at the moment with the modified laws pushed through surrounding evictions etc. I've been lucky so far in that both my tenants have kept their jobs and continued to pay rent. I'll do everything I can to help them and keep them as they're great tenants.

Being a landlord is not at all worth it if you are turning over tenants every year. You lose a lot of income through undertaking the process of putting new tenants in. Marketing, rent loss, generating new property condition reports, paying management a letting fee etc..

Can’t imagine not having moved out at 17.

You’ve done pretty well at 21, but my cousin was about 29 when she shifted out. Seems bizarre to me.

Yeah I left at 18. Knew nothing, did nothing. Moved in with two chicks from work (I'm not Quinny). Soon after I went FIFO where they did everything for me anyway. Pretty good scenario that was, thinking back.

Finally had to grow up a bit when I started working back in Perth. Bought a house at 19, don't think I even knew how to use our washing machine for a couple of years after that.

I've only just learned that I should be cleaning out the filters on the vacuum every now and then!

I spent my whole childhood as a staunch Holden man who never missed an opportunity to bad mouth or laugh about Ford. My loyalty to the red lion was probably the only sort of passion that comes close to my passion for our great footy club.

I might’ve just bought a Ranger though. Oops.
