It's like how Warne is better on the UK comms as their overall commentary is better/less matey.
It’s literally because they don’t talk as much. Warne (like Dermott) is fine as long as he keeps his mouth shut most of the time and just commentates.

The Aussie cricket commentary is done as if a bus will explode if there is ever more than 3 seconds of silence, which just brings out the worst in all of them

Get Keanu and Sandra in there, could be onto a winner.

Have a mate who's been a life long Melbourne Demons and Newcastle United fan.

Has been fun dunking on him all these years, but geez he's about to make up for it and then some.
Haven’t read the details but if Newcastle have been bought out I wouldn’t overcelebrate as a fan. If Everton has taught me anything over the past half decade it’s that money isn’t everything.

We’re finally starting to look like a club again with our two major signings combining at 1.5m.

Money isn't everything, but when your owners have roughly 14 times as much money to play with to the next best person on the list it's a pretty good advantage to have

Football soccer’s absolutely cooked

No way I could get into supporting a team backed by oligarchs/tycoons

Hard enough supporting WC knowing we’re really some faceless corporation called Indian Pacific.

That shit ^ is bonkers

That sh*t ^ is bonkers

It's what made the Leicester title win a few years ago so special, it was such an under dog story and they somehow managed to pull it off and win the league.

Aren't we owned by the WA Footy Commission now? Who also own Freo? :straining:

That's so much worse than a faceless corporation.

Private ownership of teams, what could go wrong?

When I was a kid growing up we had WAFL players come to training sessions at least once every season, I could run out onto the ground when the siren went to chase autographs then have a kick on the oval, because my parents were members we could hand around the club afterwards for best player presentations and get autographs on beer coasters etc

Football clubs were exactly that. Sport as an entertainment product has taken away the soul of what made sport truly great. The problem isn’t as significant in Australia partly because private ownership is limited and also because the amount of money is smaller but if the AFL ever becomes the plaything of billionaires to swap around as status symbols then I’m done

The unfortunate thing is fans are rusted on to their team and as such are a captive market and will stick but the disconnect between teams/players is widening year on year

Uhh, weren't they owned by one of the richest men in Thailand?

Doesn't mean the squad was stacked though.

Cost of their squad was £58.9 Million spread over 41 players

For context that same season Manchester City's squad was assembled for £447.1 Million, Manchester United £390.6 Million, Chelsea £411.2 Million

They were well and truly punching above their weight

On a serious note I mentioned before I went to my first WAFL game in decades for a Swan Districts* specialty day and had a blast, felt so different than going to the Eagles games, there was a genuine community feel and my kids enjoyed it too. Money ruins everything, I cannot think of an exception.

*they were a bit feral though.
