Djokovic visa cancelled as per the Guardian.

“Today I exercised my power under section 133C(3) of the Migration Actto cancel the visa held by Mr Novak Djokovic on health and good order grounds, on the basis that it was in the public interest to do so,” Hawke said in a statement.

“This decision followed orders by the Federal Circuit and Family Court on 10 January 2022, quashing a prior cancellation decision on procedural fairness grounds.

“In making this decision, I carefully considered information provided to me by the Department of Home Affairs, the Australian Border Force and Mr Djokovic.

The Morrison Government is firmly committed to protecting Australia’s borders, particularly in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. I thank the officers of the Department of Home Affairs and the Australian Border Force who work every day to serve Australia’s interests in increasingly challenging operational environments.”

Given that it’s a well known requirement that to come into Australia you need to be double vaccinated the right decision re Djokovic has been made (not allowed in the country)

But the process by which that result was achieved has been shambolic and an embarrassment to our country

The layers of approval (Tennis Australia, Vic Government and federal govt) are cumbersome, contradictory and operate independently without adequate communication. He should never have been allowed in and had he been denied prior to arriving here this whole mess would have been avoided

It has also highlighted the lack of cooperation between state and federal governments that has undermined our entire covid response since the very first few weeks of the pandemic. Something all the respective governments share the blame for

I still don't understand why Victoria or Tennis Australia were involved. Aren't international borders the domain of the feds? How is this meant to work?

At the very least the order should be approval to enter country, then state, then tournament but it looks like it’s been the other way round with the most important decision (entering the country) not being made until he landed here

And your question really just underlines the stupidity of having a set of contradictory rather than uniform set of rules

Tennis Australia helping players acquire visa's makes sense doesn't it? They just gave Djokovic bad advice.

He got the visa before the exemption to play tennis. TA claims to have tried to get clarification from the feds but were ignored. **** up all round but bottom line is he shouldn't have been on the plane if he didn't have the right documentation. Border force have officers in Dubai and other hubs to supposedly make sure people who aren't eligible to enter Australia don't.

This.

Imagine being a conservative Australian Prime Minster and completely stuffing up something as popular amongst your base as "We will decide who comes to this country and the circumstances in which they come"?

ScoMo really is a useless kent.

My fridge broke last year. It took three months, 5 visits by the repairman and three parts ordered for me to finally be told it couldn't be fixed.
