To be honest, if I had to pick between sharks and tourists, I'd pick sharks.

I would say it's having the opposite effect.

We're now the place that has such a bad shark problem that we have to kill them. We could've been the place that has had more shark problems recently because our booming population has lead to more beach goers or some other, more creative, spin.

In fact yes, they do. You often hear about people who stop playing a sport/doing whatever it is they do because 'one more hit to the head could be the end' etc etc.

It's beside the point though. As the human race, here were are attempting to play God, yet again.

That is true. I can't be bothered arguing any further but analogies aside, if we hadn't played God by putting Great Whites on the protected species list maybe we wouldn't have so many coming so close for food. Hypothetical.

Maybe it's just me but I don't quite get all the angst over the shark baiting/killing. It seems to have become a fashionable cause.

How about all those kangaroos that get culled at the local golf course for pooing too much. Majestic creatures, and we've entered their domain. And they didn't even try to eat anyone...
