Unfortunately Saad is a one trick player who clubs had already worked out by start of last year. Was horrible when playing seniors in 2013. Pelchan is a ruthless operator who won't be seduced by the romance of drafting a player just because he was banned for taking a banned substance. Saad stuffed up and simply isn't good enough to take a position on our list. Let's move on.

So you're writing someone off because they hadn't developed more tricks by the 2nd year of their AFL career and only 5th or so year of playing the sport at any level?

Im not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I just realised that if you rearrange ASADA you get A.SAAD:eek::eek::eek:
Am I clever, or am I really stupid and you guys already noticed that 6 months ago:D
Er... how do I put this gently, Snakey...? :p

And here I was thinking I was clever :) That's OK. For about 5 minutes I was soaring like an eagle. Oh well , back to being a turkey again:(:D

You are clever. Someone else thought of it first, and the rest of us knew about it without thinking of it ourselves. So that makes you ignorant, but clever.

In a court ASADA would most likely get saddled with Saad's costs of defending the appeal. No idea how that all works in the tribunal - I assume it would depend on the tribunal's rules.
Seems a bit harsh to cut of someone's income , then make them spend a heap of cash fighting a groundless appeal.

Irrespective of whatever 'obligation' (or lack thereof) that we have to re-draft him, we are simply bereft of a type of player that we have long relied on as an avenue to goal. With the likelihood of a number of rookie upgrades being rather high, I certainly wouldn't be opposed to giving him another run on the rookie list, provided he has kept his fitness up during his time off.

I look at it like this: we have a need for a crumbing forward. Do we want to 'spend' one of our quality national draft picks on such a speculative position? I doubt it; there are far more pressing needs. Are there any crumbing forwards running around in the state leagues that is better than Saad? I'm not an avid watcher of these competitions, but I daresay that I would have heard of at least one that can best Saad, if there were any.

Based on that, Saad appears to be the best option, will come cheaply, and will slot into our team far more easily than a new recruit, as he appears to be well loved by the boys. Everything points to him being a worthwhile pick up, if only as a rookie selection.

Not sure why you would pick him up as a rookie. He is either good enough to play, or not. If he is good enough to play then he is useless as a rookie. In which case you take him with your last pick in the draft.... and delist someone accordingly.

a) We may want our draft picks for talented youth.
b) Saad may take a few months given he won't have played a game or even trained with a team for a looong time. I tend to think his actual running fitness will be through the roof though.

If he can't train with us until Feb and has had that long without a game, he won't be match fit by April. Rookie is actually perfect because it gives him the opportunity to have a couple months down at Sandy and then he can come in mid-year (or earlier if we have an LTI like this year)

He will be able to train from January I believe with consideration so he wont miss out on too much of the preseason. Word is that he has been working his ass off with regards to his fitness. Rookie list will allow us to draft our necessary players whilst giving Saad a good amount of time to regain form in the VFL.

Exactly, I guarantee he has been given a really extensive regime to maintain himself by the club before he left and will be getting some "support" through his mates like Milera.
