Don't under-estimate the significance of the term bandied around by the club , 'Re-Setting'.

I don't work at Carlton but I've worked in marketing for 20 odd years and I suspect a great deal of work / thinking went into coming up with that term.

Clubs in the past have used the word re-building, and some more recently have said they are renovating. These words send a message to fans/corporates/other stakeholders.

Re-setting doesn't imply a rebuild so much, even though that is what it is. It softens the blow somewhat.

Sure, it reflects new faces on and off the field, and also a new approach/new philosophy to teaching/game plans, but we're kidding ourselves if we think we aren't rebuilding.

I like it (re-setting) though, it's smart thinking.

To me "re-setting" means that the club is acknowledging that they have been doing, pretty much everything, wrong over the last decade or two so there is now a commitment to change pretty much everything from the ground up. This includes the rebuild, the coaching and development of player, the culture at the clubs and hopefully all the political bullshit that goes on behind the scenes.

It will be interesting to see if there is any real change at the club or if it is just a buzz term with no substance ........

A build is to come from nothing. Our list isnt nothing, but its just not something great. As such, we will re-set the list through giving everyone a clean state and starting fresh, and letting things fall out where they will. Hopefully this is good news for Jones.

When BB said resetting, in the same breath he said "we're a club in a hurry"...
It's clever, he's conveying to us, the supporters, that yes we're rebuilding, but it's not about repairing something that's broken, we've thrown that broken thing out, we're now just building a brand new one...

I have all these Bendigo regional channels pop up on my TV. I couldn't get a signal for they, they just took up space until I deleted them. Problem is they keep on appearing again as my TV has auto tuning grrrrrrrrrr
It's that bloody Anonymous Group. 16 year old kids in their bedrooms havin' a laugh.

Re set sounds much better than re-build. There is probably not that much difference, i just reckon re-build has more of a negative connotation to it.

Not everything that runs through your head needs it's own thread 1981... :p

Don't agree, resetting is significant.

Off field, we have gone through the motions. Probably have, and have moved on some people with talent in their
field(s), but the ship has been rudderless. We have rolled along putting out spot fires, throwing out the odd random "initiative" and provided a few jobs for the boys and the "benefactor's" boys. I am not going to gush about Trigg, LoG and co., they still have to earn their stripes so to speak. However, the appointment of Silvagni, Bolton and his teaching faculty is a giant step in the right direction.

Player wise, we now have three distinct groups, who Bolton has set about integrating in to a workable and competitive unit. We have:
1] Existing players.
A group of varying ages who have largely stagnated in an out dated environment. Their development has
been disjointed and insufficient. The lack of talent pushing up from below due to poor drafting and trading
has led to complacency of varying levels among the individuals in that group.
2] The trades.
Most have been underutilised at their previous clubs, through form, favour, injury or development issues.
They all have the opportunity to reset their careers. Opportunity abounds, and clearly, they will reap
what they sow. They are all talented, and all fill a need should they show enough to usurp the encubent.
3] The draftees.
Few would argue, this has been the biggest and best draft haul in memory. We all had our wants from the
draft, and despite any initial disappointment we may have at not acquiring our favourites, it is impossible to
argue the respective merits of the kids we now have in the fold. Like the traded, they have the opportunity
to show their wares and fast track their careers through commitment and application.

We already have rumoured high end trade targets for next year. If I was one of the boys out there, I would be busting my butt to prove to the brains trust that I have a place in the team, and further trades are not required. Those who do not commit, those who falter will have very short tenure at our club. I suspect the G.W.S. boys simply had their contracts taken up by Carlton, with the promise of extension if it is deserved. I suspect Kerridge, Gorringe, Plowman and Phillips have multi year opportunity, but Sumner, Lamb and Wright have the same perform or perish situation as our existing players coming out of contract.

SOS has given us the best list he could with the currency we had. Bolts and the faculty (as I like to call them) have brought a breath of fresh air, created a learning and nurturing environment.

Love the reset.........good times ahead.....sooner than most expect.

Dessert recipe:

  1. Buy a box with an Aeroplane on it.
  2. Open packet and empty sachet into bowl.
  3. Pour 500ml boiling water onto crystals.
  4. Place bowl into fridge for 2 hours.
Once you've done step 4, I'm not sure you can re-set a jelly.

Rebuilding is a term that (historically) refers solely to the playing list. It places all the blame squarely on the shoulders of the players and the football department.

The term 'reset' removes this element of blame. It allows the club to succinctly convey that every element of our operation has been reviewed, and new plans set in motion. No more pointing fingers.

The most important element of the term 'reset'? It's past tense. 'Rebuild' is a term that implies the work is never finished - the process can be repeated over and over again. With the term 'reset' there's no need to say, present tense, "we are resetting" or even worse "we are rebuilding".

We have reset. The old direction is gone, and our new plans are already in motion.

So ****ing excited for 2016! :footy::thumbsu:
