For the last time, do you think Jake Lever will re-sign with Adelaide?

The league has been set up (read "rigged") to succeed from the eastern seaboard ever since Jackson left and Demetriou took over. If they had any intention of making the competition fairer then they would've culled two (minimum) Victorian teams 15 years ago for a start.
I can see why they have kept the teams from a historical standpoint, Fitzroy is now just a weird historical footnote and I would hate to see another team end up like that.

I am not against a team moving to Tasmania and keeping their history tied to that Tasmania team ala what happened with South Melbourne and the now Sydney Swans, but I would hate to see the AFL end up like the Ugly League with a whole heap of merged frankensides that have no real history to them.

I actually like that the AFL have tried to preserve the history of the teams within the league, but there has to be a better recruitment model that actually makes it farer for the non Victorian teams.

You're forgetting that we are playing in the VFL
Unfortunately I know full well that it's still the VFL.

Sadly having 10 Vic teams to 8 non Vic teams voting on things makes it hard to make anything happen that would be disadvantageous to any of the Victorian sides.

If Jake and Mitch leave and we keep Mackay, Otten and Thommo on the books, I will lose a lot of interest next year
We'll definitely keep Mackay and Otten. 100% guaranteed.

And we'll probably claim we don't need either Mitch or Jake because Otten can fill either role.

This is what I've been hearing in Lever all year. He'd like to stay but needs to be paid.

I feel for the AFC to give him the contract he wants, he needs to be mid 20s with 100+ games as proof of performance.

He's not, so we won't.

Sorry for the intrusion. I hope he stays to repay the faith you showed him in during the draft.

I run a successful trades blog and i just wanted to get your opinion on this:

Lever and your third.

For

Durdin, dumont, and our second

Nah, your first pick would need to be included to even get in the room. Durdin is showing signs of being the bust I thought he would be pre draft.

if the guys involved in weekly selections have anything to with contracts we are deep deep shit....

In honesty though if we lose either lever or gov I think the club needs a serious shake up. This boys club we have has delivered nothing but competitive medicority. We continue to lose premium talent for peanuts. We continue to play soft football. I thought we turned a corner when we sacked sando and got in Phil Walsh but we seem to have reverted back to the 'well run' corporate juggernaut that is the AFC.
We need to realize to be the best you need to have the best people working for you. We have plenty of money and resources to hire the best recruiters, list managers, football directors etc. Throw the money at them and they will come. Get the people that built Sydney's culture, geelongs recruitment and hawthorns ruthlessness. Instead we hire Nigel smart and Brett Burton. We give our list management job to our former footy ops son. I thought roo would have come in with an iron fist but he is even more a puppet then the rest of the board. We the supporters and members deserve better. Week after week we fill the stadium more then other supporter base in the league. Year after year we buy the most amount of 11 game memberships. We travel as much as many other supporter base and yet we have to settle for crap.
How about this...Instead of low balling a player at the start of their contract year, how about highballing a year out. Ex: matt crouch is out of contract next year. I assume his current deal would be $300k or there abouts. Offer him now $500 for 3 years before Vic clubs start offering him $650 next year. (My figures may be well out but it's just an example)

Big men take time!

Shoulder reco set him back and it didn't help that he came in as a string bean.

I hope Lever re-signs. I'd much rather him play at your mob than at collingwood (i enjoy seeing Dunn in their colours) or the dogs.

If trading with the Pies I think we need Sharenberg + 2017 1st and 2018 2nd to be somewhat adequately compensated. Doubt we would get i though.
yeah, we have to raid their midfield. buckley is gone for sure, and there will be a clean slate for loyalty. a few would look at wells and others on big contracts and may leave.

I have paid attention to jakey lever, and he never smiles after a win, and NEVER smiles or go gung ho during the singing of the club song.
he is a down right no ******* around kinda guy. doesnt accept good as being good enough, and pays attention to everything he does. his loss is on par with dangerfield.

Purely a hypothetical

In a worst case scenario, if Jake wants to go back to Melbourne, Gov to Perth, Dusty, Fyfe, Kelly, Hopper, Gibbs et al don't come to the AFC.
If Campo & Clarke resign in their assistant roles.
We continue with organic growth and taking all of our picks to the draft.
Will the AFC lose membership?
Will the rank and file membership base continue to be happy with the club and keep filling the AO next year?

Great idea but relies on the club correctly identifying the talent to do this for...the club that signed Mackay for 4 years, made VB captain and traded Lyons for a pick in the 40's.
