I can guess what will happen here ...

Jake re-signs = Everyone who said he would stay get's very cocky / everyone who said we could do without him suddenly decides he is the best young prospect and the lynchpin of our defensive structure for the coming decade and worth every cent.

Jake leaves = Everyone who said he would leave laughs hard at the idiots that couldn't see it coming / everyone who said he was staying suddenly decides he is easily replaceable, injury prone and overpriced ... and that we need midfielders anyway.

You know it. I know it. We all know it.

Im trying to find the interview or post from Lever in 2015 where he said "stoked with the opportunity the afc have given me, look forward to playing the next 10 years here" haha
prick sees $$$$ and runs
Gonna apologise for calling him a prick if/when he re signs?

Lots of gun jumpers around here, how about we save the abuse to Jake until he confirms that he's leaving!

Now you got closer to what his role is and it's not as replaceable with his leadership quality. The accountability is by design of what he has to do. Interception and create isn't it? It's counterintuitive to play down his role by suggesting he's not defending enough.
Yeah I'm suggesting that third tall is an outdated term in modern defensive strategy. And you don't need to be defensive by calling me a drama queen about it. A bit of a sooky start to your reply I would have thaught. Don't be a sook.
Calling the term third tall "prehistoric" is a ridiculous thing to say, so i think the label drama queen was deserved.

Lever is a rich man's Ricky Henderson. He's great to have, but being an unaccountable defender chipping in for marks is one of the easier roles in football.

If he is never going to step up to be a true key defender, then his value is massively impacted. He's worth the money Easton Wood is getting.

Lever is an absolute keep. Three words, leadership , character and toughness. Along with his size and skillset as an AFL footballer, he will be worth every cent we pay. Recruiters scour the world to find a J. Lever. We have him. Don't f**k this up J Reid and Co.

I hope he signs for AFC's longest ever player contract. Kristof, that is a ridiculous statement above. Ricky Henderson.....really

Two points.
1. If he's similar to Easton Wood, then why are the Bulldogs so desperate to get Lever?
2. How much money is Wood on and can you post a link to where his salary is listed?

This is where it all breaks down for you.
Rich mans Ricky Henderson. Lolololol that was a good laugh.
Easton Wood held up a cup last year.....
We don't need him as a true key defender. We've got Talia leading the lock downs.
We need him as the intercepting creator like you even said.
The fact that you have to say that he requires to be a lock down when he does what he does is short sighted.
I have absolutely no faith when you describe a players worth with the casserole of a post you just dished up.

Has it occurred to anybody that the reason why Lever hasn't signed yet could be because the club has offered less money than he expects because they're working on a deal to bring one or even two midfielders and don't know how high they can go with the offer, until they are sure they got the men they're after?
I mean, it could be the club that is telling him to wait a bit longer until they can give him the final offer. It could very well be that if he knows we'll get Rockliff, he may be prepared to accept $650K instead of $750k because of the better chance to get a flag in the next 2 years?
I know the above may not be the reason, but it still is a probable reason why the deal hasn't gone ahead yet.

Yes and getting one now will be even better.

He's Schrodinger's Lever, where he is simultaneously the best defender ever and an easily replaceable 3rd tall until we know whether or not he is staying or leaving.

Any idiot knows we need to keep him but it's not as simple as that. If we write a blank cheque for Lever, we risk losing other talent down the line. This is all a balancing act. Remember the last time we tried too hard to hang on to a player, we ended up with Tippettgate. We need to be smarter than this.

I can't believe that with our clubs recent history and all the quality players we've lost, we still have supporters who are so terrified of losing a player they would have us overpay and sell out the club for the benefit of one individual.

Easton Wood wouldn't have held up a cup for a team paying him $800k.

Lever is better than Ricky, sure. Probably a couple of marks a game better, a couple of contested disposals. Depends how much you want to pay for that.

$650k? Sure. $850k? Insane.

BTW - by comparing Lever to a whipping boy like Henderson, I'm obviously just pointing out people's hypocrisy.

I'd pay $650k, acknowledging that he's a great attacking and competitive beast.

Any more is foolish.

You know he's better than Easton Wood. He marshalled their defence brilliantly to get that flag. Fantastic effort.
You have footy wired stats with Hendo. Disregarding Hendo was a mature age and not playing Levers position at all. I'm pretty sure I haven't even talked about money yet but if I was gonna pay him I'd offer 2 and a half for three yrs first.

They are not comparable for many reasons.
