I'd bet gunner was offerred $250k with us and $450k at Hawthorn. I'd be surprised if danger isn't on $1.2m. But Geelong don't pay that kind of money because they said so. Sure.
Most footy journalists have claimed that Adelaide offered a far better deal to Danger than what Geelong did.

I have been interviewed on radio; as a general rule you are given a copy of the questions before you even get to the studio. (this was a few years ago, but I would be surprised if was done any differently now)
Gaurantee when lever walked in the studio Rowie and Bicks would have given him a rundown of question they will ask. In fact they probably would have had brief with the media manager aswell. Lever would be fully aware that the Melbourne questions were coming and the contract negotiation questions are coming. He would have probably even told them off air exactly what happened.

What's with these rumours of a trade involving Jesse Hogan?

I have heard that Hogan's family are all Crows supporters and he's desperate to play for us more than any other club in the AFL ?

Not sure whether any of this is true though
Made up stuff. Do they support Adelaide? I'd be all for Lever for Hogan if this was true. Especially if McGovern was to go as well. Walker JJ and Hogan is much better than Walker JJ and McGovern.

And where could that information have come from? They have a very shallow listand their 22 relies heavily on Danger and Selwood. Geelong traded without submitting an RFA offer for a reason. And it wasn't because they didn't think 5 x $800k wouldn't get it done.

This one shits me. Pisses me off that clubs with no depth can afford these huge offers and we're penalised for developing a strong list. The same media flogs who say we offer 'unders' are the same ones who say what a great job our recruiters have done.
Same here mate.... just feels like after all the turd we've shovelled and managed to formulate a decent group, we're getting penalised for it!

Forward pressure? GWS will probably have to drop a top quality tall because of lack of forward pressure. I would rather keep McGovern.

Do you honestly think players would not test the market at all if we offered them a middling offer to begin with? If so, I'd suggest those players find new managers, because they aren't doing a good job for them.
Yes.

The first question from a manager is are you happy there, how do you feel about an extension?

Then if the player wants to stay, the manager gives him an idea of what is fair

It goes from there.

I don't think happy players really want to leave if all things are broadly equal

Which is why clubs know they need to incentivise a guy to make a move

Without a doubt. (maybe not exactly what happened)

Ok, so here is a presser from April 12, 2016. I stumbled across this again today. Around the 2:15 mark. Listen to the question and answer.

I've brought this up at the time and many times since. I pointed out over one year ago that Lever was most likely gone next contract. I believe my words were "he knows he has value, he knows he will be sought after and command $$$ from Victoria. Not confident." I think I may have brought this up to refute the "he wants to be a 10 year player" rhetoric.

Watch him avoid answering the question.

It is what it is.

It will be interesting to see if rowdy and Vicks now have a differ by 'tone' to talkin about him later in the week - eg more or less optimistic...

Move the fricken family here. Pay the old man $50/hour to sweep the foyer of the Westpac Centre. Pay the mum $80/hr to iron his clothes. Put them up in a house. Hell, buy a few properties for the explicit purpose of having interstate families to stay at when they visit. Hold monthly events where the families are invited. Build a small community of extended player families that mingle with local based families here. Give them all fantastic video conferencing tech using tactile hologram projection so they can speak to each other and touch each other like they are already there. Surprise players randomly with having friends come over to stay with them. Build freaking city based club rooms and/or training facilities so we can finally move from that swamp out west. Get a different player co-hosting Footy SA every week. Employ someone who's full time job is catering to player satisfaction and retention. DO SOMETHING! ANYTHING?!*

*I'm sure they do this shit already.... well...apart from the holograms . Surely player retention aren't asleep at the wheel. Is there such a position as player retention/wellbeing/satisfaction?

We need to reconsider the drafting of players with serious girlfriends already in Victoria.
Before some jump up and down about blaming the girlfriend, it's a big added pressure to help them decide to go home.
It's not blaming them. It's not saying they grab them by the plums and say we're going home and that's all there is to it.

The partners don't have the AFL club environment to keep them a whole lot more distracted, it would be no surprise if they would want to go home a lot more than the player. Then you have the players family would be different to the partner's family. The player's family might like them home but they're invested in their son's AFL career and club he is at too. The partner's family, not so much. And then when they want to start a family, more issues again are introduced.

The other thing, if they get an Adelaide girlfriend, a whole lot more chance they're staying here.
This seems tenable.

Reid: Well, you seem like a fine young man and an excellent footballer. Just one more question... are you seeing anyone at the moment?
Footballer: Um... yes?
Reid: Oh... oh dear. Well, good luck in Melbourne!

We'd end up having debate akin to "we should have recruited Burton even despite his injury" as soon as a player we pass over because of his girlfriend ends up dumping her a year later :p

Sick of young footy players shacked up with girlfriends. What on earth is wrong with using your celebrity status for a while and partying on until your late 20s?
Yeah! What's wrong with people not wanting to immediately dump their partner as soon as they gain a bit of fame?!

Meh. If Lever goes we will be ok.

Great player and would love for him to stay but I have confidence we will cover him.

Next Man Up.

C'mon down Dean Gore.

You can't keep replacing Dangerfield with Milera and Gore. We need to make sure we at least break even with the Lever and McGovern trades. A top 7 pick and a quality player, not another bloody SANFL depth player.

Yeah because you ask like that and tell them like that.
You get a reading for things and make decisions.

It's sure getting us a long way having these guys come over here with serious partners at the age of 17/18 and then both wanting to go home because they so easily can, and with 10 teams to choose from, like the others before them.

Newcastle, Colorado Rockies.
If lever goes it will be a campaigner move, bigger than we've seen before.
It really isn't.

This is a kid gunning for a big pay day, and if someone is dumb enough to pay you the big bucks, then turning that down is madness.

I'm very confident our offer won't be anywhere near what other clubs are offering him because it makes no sense for us to offer massive money for him. It's a different situation if we were offering the dollars.

Yep, given the service he's given us, or lack thereof!
If he turns into 2 firsts then he's definitely given good service to us.

Right now, Lever is rolled gold for us. A not overly important defender to us (well, structurally, but not in matchups) who other clubs believes can become one of, if not the defender in the next 4-5 years. For a club in a window, and needing as much collateral as possible, that is rolled gold.

To use an example from 20 years ago, Lever is our Wellman. Now to see if we can pluck a Jarman ilk player from it.

I had given you the benefit of the doubt and assumed your post was primarily a joke. But it seems like you're actually serious.

Okay, so how are you working out which relationship is "serious", and which one is just a high school fling that's gone on a year too long? How do you work out which partners are demanding and which ones are going to just follow their partner wherever? Or do we just avoid ANY Melbourne based players with girlfriends? Effectively cutting ourselves off from the bulk of the draft?

Even if it was a good idea (which it's not), it's completely impossible to actually implement. And if anyone found out we were doing it, we'd be the laughing stock of the AFL.

Don't know why these lads don't just buy their partners a house in Melbourne and give em the flick. Could save themselves years of their lives. At some stage most blokes have to give some bird they don't like anymore their house.
Mate, In this day and age there is nothing stopping these muppets living in Melbourne full time and still playing for us.

Shit, If half the Womens side can get together with SA based players to win a flag why cant the men?

Surely we have enough in the coffers to purchase a private Jet by now.
