In terms of "haven't given service", if he helps us win a flag, is that enough service or is he still a campaigner for leaving?

and there is your problem - listening to 5AA only. While Bicks might sound like he has contacts, he no longer has. He also will push whatever agenda his bosses want, regardless of him getting/having the correct information. He will push the incorrect information as 'proof' if it gets people listening and calling in. That is his job.
Weren't you just talking about stuff the club has offered?

There is all that information out there that the club HAS put out on these things. They aren't flat out obvious about it, but there are little stories and articles that they do where you can get the information and put it together.
What agenda does the club have do you think?

Yes Bickley is in the media now but he doesn't seem one for hyperbole. I trust what Caroline Wilson says for instance and she's still in the business of selling newspapers.

Report on SEN

Tim Gossage believes the figures being bandied around for Adelaide’s out-of-contract duo Mitch McGovern and Jake Lever do not represent what they are worth.

McGovern has been linked with a move home to the WA clubs, but SEN’s West Australian commentator says he is not a $700,000 a year player, believing he hasn’t proved he can be a match winner on a consistent basis.

“He’s not worth it mate ($700k), fair dinkum, blokes who have an inflated price in the market, he hasn’t had an 80 goal season,” Gossage told SEN’s The Run Home.

“His career is going to go 250 games, do it more often. Yes it was a beautiful mark, it was a clutch goal, I understand the extremities of what it meant to them and their season, but he’s got to do it all the time.

“There are better players than him going around that won’t be paid as much.

“I know he’s a good player, but $600,000 maximum, $550k.”

Also said this about lever

“Jake Lever, if you said to me he would be one of the most sought after players in the competition right now, you would lock me up and put me in a padded cell,” he said.

“I think he’s a very good footballer, but he is not in the realms of $750-800,000. They’re not worth that money.”

I think your read on the situation is totally wrong just as it was with Dangerfield.

Dangerfield didn't leave for the coin
Gunston didn't leave for the coin
Tippett didn't leave for the coin

And though Bock and Davis did leave for the coin it was at a time when none of the AFL clubs could realistically match that of the expansion teams

And I'll go so far as to say Lever is not leaving solely for the money, my read it there is a whole lot of family involvement in his FINAL decision which IMO he's already made...
You could be right

I suppose my read on the situation was based on Lever being very definite earlier in he year on more than one occasions about wanting to stay, his is very different to Danger who was steadfast all year about making a decision at end of year, so what has changed?

Yes it could be something to donworh family / girlfriend influence on the decision however surely this influence would have always been present however something has fundamentally changed in the last 6 week and this is why I was leaning towards that with his for his stocks has risen in the AFL market and he is capitalising in the situation

Again my assumption could be completely wrong but one thing is for sure his messaging has changed significantly over the past 6-8 weeks

This seems tenable.

Reid: Well, you seem like a fine young man and an excellent footballer. Just one more question... are you seeing anyone at the moment?
Footballer: Um... yes?
Reid: Oh... oh dear. Well, good luck in Melbourne!

We'd end up having debate akin to "we should have recruited Burton even despite his injury" as soon as a player we pass over because of his girlfriend ends up dumping her a year later :p
Maybe we should have a "No banging in defense" rule to stop players with girlfriends.

Can't imagine if we asked for no banging in defense that people would make fun of us...say on a banner as such

Mate, In this day and age there is nothing stopping these muppets living in Melbourne full time and still playing for us.
Shit, If half the Womens side can get together with SA based players to win a flag why cant the men?
Surely we have enough in the coffers to purchase a private Jet by now.
I was just thinking something along these lines. If things get bad enough with the Vic go-home factor, maybe the club could establish a Melbourne training/club-offshoot site.

So some players could live in Melb and train together early in the week - with IT communications, they could easily stay in close touch with the Adelaide group. Then if the Crows have an Adelaide game, the Melb players fly over for Thurs/Fri training before the match. If we have a Melb game, the Adelaide group fly over and do likewise.

Wouldn't help with WA players though.

Seems he's the only one who has had the guts to say that. They're all getting offers based on potential and not output, but I don't think a lot of people in the media are willing to put their necks on the lines to make a call like that.

'My management might have but I didnt''
It was stated that he was seen meeting with....etc, when it clearly didn't happen. Shows you how much bullshit there is out there. If his manager hasn't met with every interested club then said manager needs to be sacked. Thing is I'm 100% certain he's gone, but I can't stand the liars who make shit up or go to print or on air with rumours peddled as fact. These f***ers should be held accountable for the shit that dribbles from their gaping maws.

Edit - and just on that -rumours, I was told on the weekend by a personal friend who is fully embroiled in the football circles of SA, that Gov is all but stitched up by us. If this person told this to any of the hacks who've been vomiting 'facts' like we've been hearing, this little rumour would be all over the media. I know he won't be mentioning anything to anyone involved in the media, though he mixes in those circles as well. I told him I didn't believe him, and he said 'then it'll be a nice surprise'. I still don't believe him, though he told me where Tippett was going long before anyone even mentioned Sydney, so I guess there's some hope.

How do we find players without girlfriends? These are taller than average, generally attractive (I assume), superb specimens of young men who would have correspondingly attractive young women throwing themselves at them. Hens' teeth, I tells ya.
Look, it's not all beer and skittles, some times we just want to snuggle up with a glass of chardonnay and apricot slice.

I agree with all of this. Guv is very good - but he is third behind Tex and JJ, and still a baby in KPF terms. Lots of upside, but a lot of upside still to go.

And I love Jake, but I think 750k is way at the upper end of what he is worth right now

Problem is the market price might just be stupid.

Probably somewhere in the middle. Flag's a flag and I'm okay for him to leave if we get fairly compensated (ie not Dean Gore - understand that was the club's fault, however it wouldn't make me any happier).

Any club willing to pay $700K+ for a 3rd. forward or a 3rd. defender isn't winning a premiership any time soon.
3rd defender is a misnomer IMO.

What was easier to acquire? Lever or Hartigan? And what cost us more?

Fair enough Talia is our #1 most important defender. Lever is a different player but we'll be able to turn some cricketer or a Liam Jones spudlinger into a #2 on the cheap. Players who can intercept the ball in the air are gold and we shouldn't sell the role short.
