Would love to keep Jake, but if he goes and we get good compensation then its not the end of the world. We've consistently lost backline players over the years and yet we still have one of the better back 6 units going around. There will be other intercept marking players in upcoming drafts for us to groom.
With that said, $700K/year for 4 should be enough to get it done for Lever at his age. The stay price should always be 15-20% below the leave price, especially on a first contract, and if $850K is the leave price i'd be happy to go as high as $700K. If we start paying full market FA price to retain players we are going to massive salary cap strife in 2-5 years.
