Yep he's clearly lying through his teeth.

Not that I blame him, he can't come out and say he's going even if he is and the 'I haven't thought about it' is really the only response available to him. Doesn't make it any less hilarious bullshit though.

He has no choice really. He either says Im staying but need to agree on the contract or he says Im still deciding. Pretty simple.

"Haven't thought about it" is his "No comment".

Staying or going, decided or not, he said he wasn't doing anything until the end of the season and he has stuck firm with that.
I was OK with that, until now. We can really benefit from an announcement if he is staying, we are talking potential flag benefit!

I know our strong end to the season is potentially diminishing our return if PD leaves, I'm actually feeling less and less concerned about Danger leaving. We've just made a semi final after a tumultuous season. You don't get to a Semi on the back of one player. We've got some real talent on this list. Yes Danger has been excellent but if we can get 2 quality young kids to replace him we'll be fine.

Problem is one of the reasons we won that final is due to Dangerfield's last quarter.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. If he goes we are losing one of the top 3 players in the AFL atm. It will be a huge blow.

The supporters would love an announcement now, but I don't think it would change much for the players. If their motivation isn't maxed out now, it'll never be.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
With our whole season on the line and a shot at a prelim against a waivering Freo and a potential GF against a team we KNOW we are capable of beating.

How much of a boost to the players and the club would Dangerfield announcing he is staying be? It actually could be the difference between us winning and losing on Friday (it must be worth two or three goals).

There is no reason whatsoever to hold back the announcement in football terms.
Actually this is a brilliant post. The mindset of the players would go into overdrive to have one of the best players in the competition to say I want to be here because I know we are going places. His decision to put off the contract is not playing the team first mantra.

One interesting theory I heard about why putting off the announcement and playing the 'havent thought about it/waiting for end of season' card (if indeed he has agreed to stay behind closed doors) is good strategically for the club:

If he waits as long as possible to publically commit to the AFC, thus holding up other teams who've cleared space for him, does it give us an advantage when trying to land another big recruit in the meantime? He's the biggest domino in this years free agency. We could potentially stitch up another key name (knowing full well Danger was staying) before other clubs had the chance to even roll out plan B or C.

I don't think this is the case mind you, but I'd like to think our new off-field crew would dare to be this shrewd...

Very true. Hard to pass definitive judgement until everything pans out and comes out in the wash.

Very likely to be variables that we may not even be aware of?

Don't speak such heresies ;)

I'd be very, very disappointed if he goes, but our team will not collapse. What worries me is the uncertainty about whether he's staying or going, and uncertainty about the extent to which the Crows would be a weaker side without him.

When was the last time Danger missed a game and we saw what the side is like in his absence? Wasn't it in the early Sando era, when we were almost a different side altogether? I guess we'd be weaker in the clearances and contested ball particularly, and lose the midfield battle more than we do today.

Found this bloke barracking for the Crows on Saturday night pretty funny #antsinhispants

Though I would of looked fairly similar if someone had recorded me :D
Way too calm to be me.

Too quiet = not me

No expletives = not me.

No beer = not me.

No screaming at the umpires = not me.

Uninvolved wives/ GFs?/ mates = not me

No noise-police knocking on the front door = not me.

On topic - Danger would be a fool to leave now.

3. People talk about where there is smoke there is fire, with this there has been a few reports suggesting Danger has signed a two year extension. To me this would seem to ne the most logically decision. Commercially it positions him to test the market as a unrestricted FA at the peak of his powers and maybe with this B&F and Brownlow around his neck. In terms of success it gives him two more seasons to ride the AFC journey as our premiership window is opening

You missed out Norm Smith.;)

Yes he and Tex wrestled that game our way. Danger got important possessions, clearances and took some solid marks to help get us over that line. He was the standout Mid in that last quarter.
Reckon his quarter was over rated tbh. He had 10 touches and at one stage went almost 10 minutes without a touch. The marks did nothing other than eat a bit of time as the kicks were both turnovers. 6 touches from the 20 minute mark to the siren, where at least two were direct turnovers.

I remember him sitting in the stands when we beat someone we werent expected to in the wet at Footy Park (ie. a few years ago now). Reckon it might have been the cats. Think Rory dragged us over the line. Tex may have been out too?? Remember him being pumped with someone when Sloane too a courageous mark and goaled in the last.

Yeah actually that's a good point. Apparently it's just a hobby to supporters but it's a decision that will affect his whole life. Yet supporters think about it more than he does. In fact, he hasn't even thought about it even though it will affect his life. Seems kind of contradictory.

I find it completely baffling that there are people out there who honestly seem to believe that Patty a) genuinely hasn't thought about it, and/or b) expects us to believe he genuinely hasn't thought about it.

OF COURSE he's thought about it - and OF COURSE he would never expect us to believe that he hasn't.

The "I haven't really thought about it" line is the perfect throwaway 'cooler' comment, it prompts zero follow up questions, and was clearly decided on at the start of the year to be the go to line of choice whenever he was questioned about his contract situation.

It means, literally, nothing. It gives us, literally, no insight.

Now the motivation for this delaying and diversion tactic - that is the interesting part here, the part open to rampant speculation.
The line itself is purely the best tool at his disposal to minimize the speculation.

Thought that was when Otten took a contested one hander against Harry Taylor in the goal square, but with my memory...
