To match or not to match, the club should be discussing this with the AFL

Either the AFL gives us two juicy first round picks as compensation which they can do because it is up to the AFL Commission's discretion or we match and force a trade

I wouldn't be surprised if this has already been agreed to
What numbers would they be?

We need 1 to be top 5 and the second somewhere between 5 and 15

The drafting has been fine in general. But they've done little/nothing with really early picks ever (Brad Crouch is probably an exception, but is a special case.) I know it seems like a novelty in recent years, but Adelaide actually get a first round draft pick automatically.

Only Brad Crouch would have been picked before the pick Adelaide already have.
really so jake lever wouldnt of been picked lmao

Geelong will know before the trade period starts whether we're matching or not. They are not going to get Henderson and put their ability to get Danger into jeopardy.

People need to stop worrying about the ramblings of numpty Geelong supporters who have no idea what they're talking about.
Even if Geelong do trade their 1st for Henderson, the introduction of futures trading gives them a 2nd 1st rounder to play with.

Ideally they'd both come to us, but we could still very easily nut out a deal that nets us a 1st, 2nd plus something else, which puts us in a substantially better position than we would be in with FA.

When was the last time we had a 'really early' draft pick??

I wonder if Bicks still thinks he hasnt made up his mind.
Its been pretty damm obvious that he was going. You would have to pretty blinded to not get it.
1. He refused to even look at a tabled offer from Adelaide.
2. He bought a house in Geelong and was having it renovated.
3. The ex Cats CEO and employer of his mother and Auntie came out and said he has been told that he is coming home to Geelong.
4. Danger drops all of his media stuff except one little spot on AA.
5. He gets left off the calender for 2016
6. He is getting married next year in Geelong and wants to start a family.
7. Hutchie is a Geelong insider who employes most of the player managers through Croc media. He said on the record that Geelong believe he will be there next year.
8. He changes his story from being all about which team is set for finals, to choosing one family over another. Which family wins that battle everytime.
9. Last contract his parents were being interviewed all the time in the media saying how loyal he is, yet this time they are invisible.
10. No FA has ever stayed at the club if they hadnt re-signed by round 18.

While optimisim can be good, reality keeps you alive.

This has been the toughest year ever at the AFC, our coach is murdered and our best player deserts us. Technically speaking we have gone backwards since round 1 in terms of what we had then compared to know. Lets hope the AFC can do the job and get a worthy coach and add some depth to our team with the picks from losing Danger.

The other thing that sucks by him dragging it on this long, its left our list mgmt in limbo while we have waited for him to make a decision. I'm sure if we knew what he was going to do earlier we would be going harder to fill the void.

Some posters on here had the audacity to say other posters were jumping at shadows when all this was taking place. There was plenty of signs he was deserting us and **** ing off to Moggs.

Wow if there were any doubts about him going after just hearing Scott being interviewed with G Whately on the ABC they have been put to bed. Pack the truck and hook the boat up he is done.

How can these negotiations all take place when he is a contracted player? I thought that shizzle was naughty.

Seeing as everyone knows now, why would he wait? It's already going to be awkward. Just be up front.
Because he is likely still stubbornly sticking to the notion that he is "making a statement" by refusing to announce his intentions until the season is over, which for most clubs is after the B&F.

One door shuts another one opens

Hopefully the club has done alot of planning to get the best leverage from Danger leaving that will enable us to be a major off season player in strengthening our list
In 2011, our club made good use of its draft picks and fringe players(Maric/Armstrong) to help mitigate the loss of Davis and Gunston, whilst putting the wheels in place to cover the loss of Kurt(unfortunately we weren't counting on Tippett taking 2x firsts and 2x seconds with him and offering nothing in return).

We netted Crouch, Brown, Lynch, Jenkins, Kerridge, Grigg, CEY that trade/draft period, for Davis, Gunston, Maric, Armstrong and our draft picks that year. That's 4 best 22 players, plus 3 fringe players, who've all proven capable at the highest level.

If Danger leaves, we need a similar style trade period and there certainly appears to be some quite catchable fish in the ocean.

As a side note, if we do lose Danger, I think we should definitely chase Bennell. It's a risk, no doubt, but we need to be bold if we're to recover from Paddy's loss. Even if we were to grab Menzel, Aish and Hampton, there's still a massive talent hole in our side, Bennell goes a long way to fixing that and likely would only cost one first rounder plus some steak knives.

What would you consider to be 2 juicy picks.

Anyone who believes the afl will do us any favors and give us 2 first rounders are living in absolute fairy land.
Same story for anyone believing that he is holding off an announcement that he is staying for whatever other fanciful story you can rationalize.
Is going. Was always going.
Club will either take the SINGLE first round pick directly after our first, or match and either get the cats first rounder and that's it, or probably less because we hold no cards.
Time to face the facts that we have been stiffed the entire season with this bullshit going on the entire time.
Dangers put in his all. Good on him, because it's all about danger isn't it. Rest of the team has had to put up with the constant speculation. Thanks danger, thanks for msking it all about you.
Rant over.

Ok, so now everyone is pretty much getting with the program and understanding he is gone, moving forward we all need to demand our club matches the offer for him and goes to trade.
Our club just cannot let one of the top 3 players in the game leave our club for pick 17 in ine of the weakest drafts in years.
We need to bombard the club with emails demanding they match.
Whats the email addys for Fagan, Roo, Noble etc?
While all normal sane people would expect the Crows to match, I dont have faith in them to do so.

I've been there for a while mate. I don't want players that don't want to be here. Would have preferred he stuffed off when we could have traded him last contract.
To be completely honest, even if Danger does decide to re-sign with the AFC, I have gone rather cold on him the past few months. The constant line about "haven't yet thought about next year" is grating at best.

Stay or don't, just f*cking make an announcement and get it over with. I am sick to death of the VFL media acting so gleeful that our club is getting it's heart and soul ripped out for the second time in 4 months.

The talk is Geelong's Walker is going to Carlton, that and a second rounder should get that trade done.
