And so Geelong were and it paid off. Thats a risk they took that looks like it might have paid off. Obviously Geelongs list management guys saw something ours missed.
You're saying its paid off after 2 NAB matches where Clark had the likes of Hartigan, Cheaney and Kelly standing him?

Clark will struggle big time this year. He may be better next but its a long way off from saying its paid off for Geelong.

This is a conversation to have at the end of the year in the "I told you so" thread.

I didn't realise they showed it on the big screen at the game. I thought it was only a tv thing. I agree it was disrespectful to Dangerfield and to the Crows to show it at the ground, where Danger could see it and was playing. He is a Crows player, playing in a game for the crows. It just rubs me the wrong way.

Also agree with Stevie J. Was a great answer and he gained a point in my books too.
Haha it was on the big screen? Oh dear.

Bit of an overly-attached girlfriend vibe coming off Geelong suddenly...

Awkies!

I have to ask the question - we know that media outlets will continue to spank on about this and drag out as many people as they can to discuss Dangerfield to Geelong. BUT, when does the commentary from Geelong the club become too much for the AFL to tolerate? Isn't he contracted and hence not allowed to discuss contract negotiations? When does the players and coaches commenting on it and openly recruiting him become tampering?

There must be a line somewhere.
I don't think it's Geelong, the club, at all. Joel Selwood (day before the game) and Steve Johnson (during the game) both just shut it down when asked.

It's the media, and there's nothing any one can do about that.

Exactly. And the media are so desperate to keep talking about, they need to get quotes from the mayor, the cheerleader & other unrelated sources.

It's hopeless.

Whilst I appreciate the thought.. ;) The article does say they are paying 100% of cap this year. That is what i was referring to.
They'd have to be front-loading to the extreme. The key is that they're paying 100% of the cap this year. It's actually reasonably meaningless because their front-loading might have freed up $2m per year for the next 3 years.

Isn't anyone else worried by the comments made by Phil Walsh? Talking about Danger is still under contract and has to perform....this tells me that Danger has told the club he's going and Phil is insisting the club has to get the most out of danger while he's still at the club.

Why didn't we trade him last year? Were the offers not good enough as other teams knew they would get him cheaper once his contract was up? I'm quickly losing all respect for Danger and I'm surprised he's happy to screw the club over particularly as we looked after him while he was still at school.

Just watch the game last night and tell me how the hell we're going to replace him? He constantly puts this team on his back and drags us back into games. We should be getting the number one and two overall pick for him but instead we'll get a crap pick for him and we'll get screwed yet again and the AFL will be more than happy with that as Danger will be back in Victoria. Seriously I'm giving up on the game as there's no way we can ever win. Odds are stacked against us.

Clark has to be the most unloyal player in the AFL, we don't need a player with his attitude in the club.
Yeah but making those kinds of moves seperate the good teams from the mediocre ones. What were we going to lose? Not much. He's going to be a great alternative to Hawkins. Geelong are going to be good again this year.

Can you imagine if we were courting a Geelong player and we did that to them? The Vic media would be outraged and it'd be called a dog act etc.

The Melbourne media will always be Vic focussed - who cares. They're just ambulance chasers bottom feeding on the AFL machine.

It's pretty clear that Geelong have instructed players to shut down any talk of Danger.

Mate. Don't make flippant comments about a serious mental condition that affects millions of people and families around Australia.

To say someone 'faked depression" to get to a good footy club suggests you clearly shouldn't be posting on this board.

Disgraceful and immature comment.
Don't lecture me. Clark has a terrible history of lying to clubs and back flipping to manipulate the system to get his own way. You're arent a mental health expert either and you don't know if he was depressed. I think it's hilarious that after receiving all that support from the Dees he then tells them thanks but I can't play for you anymore. He's a disgrace and people defending him because he may or may not have had depression are fools. Tell me why he didn't go back and play for Melbourne? It reeks of a player manipulating the system to get his own way as he has all his career.

What are your sources that we didn't speak to his management?
Exactly. I'm sure numerous clubs tried to grab him. He was very unlike to leave Victoria but the public will rarely hear about offers that are made and rejected. I'm sure we are more active than people realise but being in SA we get knocked back a lot. The club won't want to advertise how often we get knocked back either as it doesn't make us look good.

You can't force a contracted player player to go.
Which aligns with Nobes comment. I'm convinced he's gone and the club knows about it. Decision was made quite some time ago. Read into the comments being made and our seeming lack of urgency in offering him a new contract and it all fits together.

I dont give a crap about cred mate and again stop lecturing me. You aren't the morality police. You have no idea if he genuinely had depression and answer me this, why didn't he go back and play for Melbourne if he had depression then got better?

With the way Geelong feed their forwards and having Hawkins there to be the number one forward I reckon Clarks going to have a huge year.

Go take a look at the Melbourne board if you reckon I'm being harsh. They are ropable as they should be. Clark has constantly manipulated multiple clubs with his shenanigans. He can't be trusted.
