West Coast, under new coach Adam Simpson, started 2014 at 3-0 by beating Western Bulldogs, Melbourne and St Kilda by an average winning margin of 60 points.

They were the media "bolter" and locked for the Top 8 and likely Top 4.

I'm excited too but let's just chill a bit on the Premiership talk, yes?

Agree about premiership talk. Totally.

However, you cant compare NM,Pies and Melbourne (yes I am getting ahead of myself of this weeks game) to WB,Melb and Saints of 2014.

NM was a top 4 team of 2014 and has recruited heavily matured players with thought of playing in a GF in the next two years. Pies are a traditionally tough Victorian opponent for us, especially in Victoria.

We havent done anything special yet though. As I said earlier, are first biggest test in the next 8 games is Port and Freo. Win these games and maybe we can start talking about top 6 aspirations.

For starters I would settle for a win on this Saturday.

The problem with our great win over NM is that being round 1 there is no formalise to go off of.

Yes they were top 4 last year so thats as good as we have got but were they underprepared, are they going to be not as good this year, will they have a slow start to the year are all question marks that were hanging over that game. If we had have beaten collingwood week 1 then did that to NM in rd 2 after their thrashing of Bris being in Rd 1 then I think it would be looked at more favourably.

But as it is, too many question marks and pjcrows is right, early records can be misleading

I think what has heightened the expectations is that there has been good signs in the NAB Challenge coupled with massive off field changes at our Club and there is a genuine reason to be optimistic.

Lets just be optimistic about reaching the 8 than anything else. Im glad we are still questioning the credentials of the AFC. Traditionally when we dont, it is when complacency comes in and the Crows take the foot off the pedal.

Our best victories over the past two seasons has come when the Club has booted from pillar to post. The Pies game at AO comes straight to mind.

It's our game style that's convincing not the results alone. I'm convinced we will finish top 4. Bookies agree. Our draw is good, we've got a great coach, players are playing to their potential, this year has a great feel about it.

I'll be going to the showdown in round 5. Flying over from Perth, I'm a Crows member now, f***in pumped already. If we beat Port will people be convinced then? But what if Port continue to play like they have been so far? Then people will still be saying we haven't had a true test...

Good. Lets continue to question this Club, the team, the players and the coach till we actually start playing football in September. We have been ordinary in the last two years.

Get to a preliminary final and then I will become very optimistic. Till then my expectations are limited to hopefully us playing a home final in W1 of the finals as the 5th or 6the place team (or if we draw the Power).

You're excited? Couldn't tell!

Well if we're 5-0 we can probably re-assess it can't we.

The Showdown is the first biggest test for us in 2015, I think a better indication will be on May 30th. Not sure if the Power are traveling well or have played damn good opponents.

Salient.

Geelong were 2-0 in 2006.

They were also 2-3 in 2007.

Both flag years we were 2-4.

Moral: Disregard the first month and a half of the year, or risk looking like a fool.

If we won it this year, surely he would stay. Because as he says it's about success.so why would you leave a side that's won the premiership. Unless of course it's not all about success.
Those of thinking he would go are probably (because i won't speak for all of them) thinking family is starting to kick in as a factor at that point. He has already achieved success. With us at any point. Why not go and chase it somewhere else now as well. A new challenge etc.

Every week is a test and every week that test is for very different reasons. Then you have a few more even bigger tests before 2 teams have the biggest test of all.

Some clubs fail those tests but winning the grand final is a test of attrition and who comes out on top is the ultimate winner.

But the season is not over if you stumble overr a few tests - it becomes over when you fail test after test.

Expanding on your points, WB, Melb and Saints finished in 15th, 16th and 17th respectively in 2013, and finished 14th, 17th and 18th in 2014. At no point during that time were they thought to be difficult opposition. WC beating them all to be 3-0 beginning 2014 was really nothing to get excited about.

NM finished 6th after minor round and 4th after finals last year. Magpies finished 11th. They're teams much more likely to put up a fight than the three WC beat.
