Small amendment. Daniel Talia our best & fairest winner AND all Australian got zero.
I think this is HIGHLY relevant.

However, a well selected AA team (by that I mean taking position into account) does not necessarily represent the best and fairest 22 players in the game.

Bickley owned Rucci on 5AA last night in rleation to whther Port's problem was hard work. Small sample size, its not hard work, its many factors. Was a great listen. Rucci is a moo.
Heard that. I'm tempted to listen to AA a bit more... hate all the advertising though. Anyone else been listneing in this year and can endorse it for the evening trip home?

For a group of supporters who allegedly never read any of Rucci articles, many know what and when he writes.

He can write an artice everyday, it won't change anything - Dangerfield will still be out of contract and everyone will know that he is by now.

Unless you are living under a rock and then you would not care.

I understand some posters view that we don't know the Dmac deal, because we don't. However, we can only discuss on reported figures, because fact is that almost none of us will ever see his contract signed by both parties. You could ask the man himself and whatever response he provides is still not certain.

But yeh, Reporting that Dmac has picked up $400k by 4 years woukd certainly results in every player manager comparing their client to him and asking, "where's our love?" Those that suggest it's a once-off, no problemo, you can overpay some guys, it's only $150k/year, clearly havent fully taken account of the restrictive nature of the salary cap. Further to that, apart from the COLA's, the recent behemoths of the comp have had players accept under's to remain with a team challenging for a flag. So if we burn $150k on Dmac, we need to claw back even more than that because the successful teams are paying unders. That's hard to do when a benchmark is set at players being over-paid.

It's the kind of mistake that an organisation makes when they haven't brought in any high level, fresh blood in their footy dept for a while.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the 400k figure a hangover from what it was believed his previous contract was? Ione that would have been signed when we all thought he was worth a lot more than now (when Melb were offering him a great deal supposedly?)

Im pretty sure it was believed he was on 400k then.
By the end of that contract people here thought that was more than what he was worth.
He then signs a 4 year deal (3 year extension) and everyone is saying OMG 400kay has a 4 year deal.
Then it has continued to be accepted this deal is at 400k

IMO he got a 3 year extension at a much reduced rate (possibly the last year performance based) and he took it for the added security.

We can only go on reported figures, which might be with a bit of inside knowledge or assumption or a flat out guess. The only occasions where I've read a different number is on here with posts like this suggesting that it might be lower. Which it could very well be.

"Mackay on Wednesday left Bulldog Shaun Higgins as the only restricted free agent on the market by signing a lucrative four-year deal worth about $1.6 million." http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport...o-adelaide-crows/story-fnia3xzy-1227007351867

Nothing on contract value at all - http://www.triplem.com.au/melbourne...w-four-year-contract-with-the-adelaide-crows/

Again, no value mentioned - http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-07-30/crow-inks-new-deal-

There's really not much out there and it could be that Capel has just flat out assumed that he would have been contracted on about the same amount. I've tended to read most negative comments (including mine) as being based on the assumption that the $400k figure is around the mark. If you tell me that it's actually $200k, then I'd say it's probably ok, perhaps I'd argue it's a year too long, but it wouldn't be worthy of much consideration.

Fair enough, I have no idea what it is but also couldn't remember seeing it reported at 400k, just assumed.

100k would be well under IMO but 330k is probably about where I think it would sit without looking further at AFL averages but thats not a lot for a non rookie contract.

I tend to think that 1.6 figure will be off but who knows. His pre 400k a year contract may have been backloaded and since the 1st year of this contract actually includes that it could br 1.6 but including 600k left over from the previous deal (and do 1mil over the following 3 years). Could be about right but thats just spit balling

I love listening to the sports show (most of the time).

Just take it for what it is and you will enjoy it more. If you accept the fact that Rowey is a buffoon he is bloody hilarious. Would love to have a few brewskis with him!

It's getting better, Bicks has brought some analysis into it, have been enjoying it more with dillon the past 3 days, maybe a rowe/bicks/dillon combo could work, keep rowie under check as he can act like a tosser sometimes. I find the ads extremely frustrating plus the fact they pay rucci a salary is a shocker.

Dillon? No thanks.

The best mix would be Bickley and K Cornes when he retires.
Give me tredders everyday of the week, Cornes is literally the most boring of the port players, not sure why the love for him on radio. Its Oc Health Safety having him on drivetime radio, he'll put most drivers to sleep.

I listen on the net at work, it's better than nothing. Bicks is a considerable upgrade on Bone, Rowey's still an idiot though.

Bicks has been great, surprises me to be honest...
Rowey annoys me and is a complete peanut...

It should be Bicks, an ex Port player/coach and a 3rd neutral type....
I think I will be alone on this but I like Kim Dillon

He's good at hosting, is fair to both clubs and most importantly calls out crap when he hears it. Usually from Rooch and Wildy

If it was him, Bicks and a Port person I'd be ok with that. Don't mind Kane. Not Ginever

I think the love is just because he talks reasonable sense and has a modern understanding.

Probably plenty who could do juts as well if not better but people have been exposed to him so he is considered a candidate (if not natural fit) and because he is an improvement on whats there he gets that "love"

Tredders has good love too but not talked about for 5AA as he seems pretty set in MMM.

I think Bicks is good. Rowe is ok but I think he has become tiresome (and I'm no regular listener). Not sure how much of that is him or how much it is him being told to make outlandish/controversial comments to attract callers. A 3 pronged show may water down Rowe and make him a positive but with a 2 host system I think he wears thin.

Agree he does wear thin

I quite like Rowie, he can be funny but jeez if he just toned it down a bit

Also if they scheduled a bit more content it would help. Half the time he raves on just to fill air time

Would like to see three people on it

Think its a matter of not "respecting" the listeners.

They pander to the older or more paranoid listeners who will believe the hype and jump and down about "OMG did you hear that Danger is gone". They have some segments with good guests that are worth listening to, but apart from that rather than in depth analysis/discussion it is all sensationalism, scare mongering, etc to get callers.

Reason a lot here dont like it is they dont target people who think about the game a bit deeper or follow all the stories from various sources. Then we hear snippets of the better segments and think maybe its worth listening to more often, but then realise for the most part its not.

I actually think Louie and Jars are worse though. They often talk about a topic and show they have no understanding of the situations/rules surrounding it. Like last year they were saying Danger meeting with CLarko had to be about playing for the Hawks because he wasn't AA that year so wasn't even eligible for the international rules (not realising anapaest AA could be eligible!)

Agree which is why Bicks is a breath of fresh air, provides some level of insight

Through the Essendon stuff I just wished they had got on an expert or two who could have given some depth to it

All ex-players and other journos had no idea of the governance stuff surrounding that and didn't bother to get someone else in to discuss it. Exception was Caroline Wilson who I thought was spot on and showed the 3AW blokes up as a bunch of boofy footy blokes

So yeah they just need to do more than just commentate on issues, they need to explore them and help people understand them

I don't think they have much of a budget, AM radio ain't what it once was.
