No it doesn't. Player has to agree.
The restraint on trade argument is about the players ability to earn money, the RFA rules allow them to go to the team offering them the most money if they want to go there. Therefore their trade is not restrained. Restraint of trade does not apply to employer location.

The players employer is the AFL not the clubs, Dangerfield effectively works for the AFL out of their Adelaide office, he may want to work out of their Geelong office but the AFL is under no legal obligation to transfer him.

The player still has to agree to play for that club.

I understand what you are saying but I have to question if that applies to this. The players have it in their contracts and therefore have accepted the condition. The issue is whether the contract is legal. I know you can put anything you like into a contract but if its not legal (by the law of the land) then it cant be enforced.

I would have thought that the AFL had the contracts scrutinised and they would have been advised about the contracts legality.

Up until now I have been confident that the AFC would be able to force Geelong to negotiate. Now with all the noise surrounding Danger and the possible AFLPA getting their nickers in a knot I find I getting more excited about what is going to play out. Very interesting.

They can't get both players without giving up value.

That is gfc's problem not ours!

Connors will not allow cats to trade their 1st round pick if they agree to terms.
It becomes our problem if Patrick wants to leave and he sticks to his guns.

So when they trade a R1 pick for Henderson?

What do we get?
If they do that I think Danger will bug out and re-sign. They wont be able to trade for him in any way shape of form without their first round draft pick meaning the PSD would be a real threat if the AFC are set to make a stand and trade negotiations fall through.

Won't happen.

Player agents make sure both clubs are reasonable.

Connors will not allow the cats to have no value to trade as he will tell them they are not serious about securing his clients services.

Jon Ralph apparently heard a rumour that "some players" were told they could play with Dangerfield in 2016 and has somehow managed to write an entire rubbish article based on that.
That must have been how they "lured" Rhys Stanley...

How many trades completely stalemate?

Hardly any these days as there are professional talks behind the scenes to get the deal done.

That is a fact not your fantasy land where the Afl are going to step in & hand us over more compensation picks!

Thats not what you said. "player agents make sure both clubs are reasonable"

Pick 11 to 18 and a B grade player from Geelong is not bloody reasonable.

Which he will. All players have so far and Danger, with the support of their agents, will expect to get to his club of choice. It happens virtually every time even if a player is contracted so why would he cave in when few others do? Even worse is he's a superstar of the comp so he won't accept being told no or feel the need to compromise.

tippett - nothing in return/sanctions
gunston - late second rounder
davis - nothing
bock - nothing

no club has ever been bent over and lost as many players as us, yet victorian media make it out as if we should bend over once again to geelong because the player wants to leave. we would pretty much be hawthorn had those players not left. the arrogance of geelong is disgusting

Player agents do make sure that the clubs play ball if their high profile client wants a trade.

If danger chooses the cats, Connors will keep the cats honest that they offer Afc something reasonable. Sure it will be unders, but won't be a complete rip off like the rfa compensation pick.
