All this talk about matching offers isn't going to matter anyway.

I'm calling it, Danger will stay with the AFC.
Certainly seems to be a lot less panic internally than externally

I'd like it to work like this in terms of movement of players.

ANY un-contracted (not delisted) player that wants to move - seek a trade, if no trade can be done the player goes into the PSD draft and his old club get the pick immediately after he is picked up.

Simple.

Using Dangerfield as an example - either Geelong trade for something better than an early pick (coz that is where he would be picked up) or they risk the PSD and use their lowest pick on him and we get the next pick anyway. Risk - reward. If they don't want to take the risk then trade something that locks him in ... if they want to risk him getting picked up by another club that is their choice.

Well my sources, 2 of them, are both internal and have all but confirmed it.

This was last week.
There is a quiet confidence emanating from the club.

We've said so little about it. Haven't reacted, aren't releasing statements about the situation, not trying to hose down speculation, not giving ultimatums or deadlines. Just a straight no comment every time. Rinse, repeat.

Not necessarily confidence that he'll re-sign, but at least that we have the situation under control.

The deal has to be at least 2 years and the AFC should be able to match anything Geelong does, we should have more money than them. The only offer from Geelong we might not match would be length, if they offered a 10+ year deal we may not be willing to match because we don't want him to accept the offer and stay with a contract where he will be getting paid for years after he retires.
i hate it how melbourne media is making it out like 'can we still sign dangerfield after weve signed tex, douglas, sloane'. like as if we wouldnt be able to sign him..... hawthorn have hodge, lewis, roughead etc etc we will have massive amoutns of money. just 12 months ago we offered cameron 1 mill a year

well what are we going to get in return on the trade table anyway if they trade their first to henderson? i cannot see motlop leaving if he knows dangerfield is coming.. im getting ready to get royally f*cked over once again. feel sick just thinking about this happening to us AGAIN
If Geelong don't offer Motlop a contract, he can't stay there.

Henderson isn't a FA. If Geelong trade their 1st before finalizing the deal for Danger, then Danger would feel aggrieved at not being their main priority. Because the matched deal would happen before trade week starts.

Communications strategy is definitely intentional.

The focus on Danger from the media makes other things easier to do.

No, what I have been saying is that if Dangerfield agrees to go to Geelong, Connors will ensure that the cats offer up decent value, which will still be unders but more than fa compensation. He will not allow the cats to trade out their 1st rounder for another deal as it will jeopardise his client.
So in other words ...Geelong would have to choose between Henderson and Dangerfield

They'd have to trade a player anyway to get a lower first round pick

In a rebuild that Geelong is in ...they're hardly going to want to sell the farm (trade out good players) to get Dangerfield
They will try and get Danger and Henderson to try and snare one last premiership for the golden era. I think they will not hesitate to offer their first rounder and a player to get Danger.
