Yeah got a feeling we'll be waiting a while, although hopefully not that long and his management will be looking before that.

I'm hopeful he will stay, it's just important for people to keep their minds open to the possibly he may go. Want to try and avoid any Jane* incidents.

I find that I cope best in just preparing for the worst - although it does make it hard to watch and support Danger when you believe he won't be a crow next year.

I am 50/50 on if Danger will go, however one thing that gives some hope is that when he re-signed last time he said he planned to wait until the end of the year. So him putting it off to the end of the year might not be a deff sign he is gone.

I would offer $1.1m. As stiffy18 has said you accept what you think you are worth. PD may not quibble over $100,000 but he would , without knowing him, feel undervalued at $800,000 - $900,000.
We could offer him a get out clause in his contract for...say a second round draft pick trade! And...providing the club with some unmarked envelopes and a table to slide them under should do the trick too.

Worked wonders last time we had a million dollar contract from one of our top players to consider.

Are Release Clauses legal in the AFL world?

In soccer you have Release Clauses where if the club doesn't achieve something, say gets relegated or does not qualify for Champs League, the player is effectively released from the contract, except a fee is still usually paid for the transfer.

How about Danger signs for 4 with a release clause that if we don't make finals the club has to agree to a trade for a first round pick? I know it sounds a bit like Tippett, but if the eventual trade still has to be commercial, then it can't be tampering. Anyway, isn't free agency another form of draft/ trade tampering?

I'm pretty sure you can't agree to trade for a value agreed to in advance - and without that, the idea is even less legal than the Tippett contract.

No, free agency isn't draft or trade tampering.

Think you could factor in to release a player but in no way can you agree to a trade value prior.

Why not though? If it's unders then isn't free agency as unders as it gets? Seems to be double standards to me. Why not let us sign him with a clause to release him at an agreed value in the future to whoever. Isn't a regular 4 year deal similarly an agreement to release him for massive unders (I.e. Nothing) at the end of the term anyway?

The key thing is you need to abide by AFL rules. Free agency is in the AFL rules, agreeing to trade a player upon conditions X Y and Z for an agreed amount is not. The AFL needs to approve all contractual conditions and that is not one of the conditions you can place in a contract.

Harps is that you ;)

Contracts need to be compliant with AFL rules - which means you can't fix a future trade value.

Don't want another Tippett-gate...

WELL we have signed Tex, Sloaney not too far away and Danger is the one holding out. In todays market place I don't think anyone but Buddy is worth the money per year that some people are saying Danger is worth. Fact is Danger has got a few downsides to his game such as defensive action and accounatability , he has several impacts per quarter but a surprising percentage of posessions are not effective. His gamestyle leaves him open for injury and you must wonder how long he can sustain that over a period of time. Perhaps with Phil Walsh a new gamestyle will be part of Dangers armoury. Remember that we have players signing on to stay because they want to be part of the club and the direction it is going,,,,,,,hopefully ! I think Danger is a loyal person and wants to be part of a successful era at AFC but is checking the horizon in where he and the club are at . The person to assume and share Dangers mantle in 2015 will be Brad Crouch. An absolute ball magnet and is flying at the moment at training and given this will be his first REAL preseason in the last few years thru age and injury keep yours eyes posted on him.
Wishing every one a MERRY XMAS and hope that we have a successful 2015 with ALL players signing and wanting to be part of the AFC culture for years to come

I think it comes under 'influence a future draft'

You cant make any agreements with anyone about what youll do in the future with regard to draft picks (I think)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Its fairly obvious Danger will be testing the new coach before committing. Bookmark he will state this in the presser if he stays.
