I'm sure I'm not the only one who revisits their votes in Hottest 100's of years gone by and wonder if I could have done better.

For shitzngiggles, I want you to give me your top ten songs from the 1993 Hottest 100 and after a while we'll tally the votes to see how the list would look now.

It'll be interesting to see which songs have stood the test of time.

For the full 1993 list visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_J_Hottest_100,_1993

My ten votes:

Creep - Radiohead
Killing In The Name - Rage Against The Machine
Sister Havana - Urge Overkill
Holy Grail - Hunters & Collectors
Easy - Faith No More
The Honeymoon Is Over - The Cruel Sea
Everybody Hurts - REM
Sober - Tool
Are You Gonna Go My Way - Lenny Kravitz
Plush - Stone Temple Pilots

Wow. I am incredibly surprised at some of the songs that made that list. I wonder what we will think of the 2009 Hottest 100 in 15-20 years' time ...

Anyways, my favourite 10 songs out of that list (am I interpreting the OP correctly) are:

Creep (Radiohead)
The Honeymoon Is Over (The Cruel Sea)
Everybody Hurts (R.E.M.)
Soul To Squeeze (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Are You Gonna Go My Way (Lenny Kravitz)
Cantaloop (US3)
Push Th’ Little Daisies (Ween)
Easy (Faith No More)
Mrs Robinson (The Lemonheads)
Bullet In The Head (Rage Against The Machine)

You are indeed interpreting right. Think it would be interesting to see which songs stand the test of time by revisiting and revoting the list.

It'll be really interesting in 15 years time to see what the 2009 list would look like revoted.

A song like Asshole, which was number one then and still a funny song, doesn't have the timelessness that others have.

The lists so far are extremely similar. What would be interesting is for all the above posters to do a top 10 from this year. Either you have the exact same taste in music OR there were less choices in 1993.

I don't think they're that similar. After a quick scan, only Creep and Everybody Hurts seem to be in most lists (but not all), everything else looks like a good spread.

As for making a list for this year, the kids took control of the stereo about 2001 and, apart from The Wiggles, then Pink, and now Short Stack, I haven't really heard anything new since then. :(

tasmania didn't even have triple j in 1993, so i didn't vote that time round.

the top 10 songs of the year in hindsight (no order):

radiohead - creep
ratm - killing in the name
nick cave - the ship song
smashing pumpkins - cherub rock
stone temple pilots - plush

oh. so i just looked at it, and of course it only has the hottest 100 and not the whole list. i don't actually think i can find 10 songs in there that i'd vote for...

not a lot there that has stood the test of time imo

This is very, very true. I had to pick songs I don't particularly like to flesh it out to 10. But I'm sure that there were other songs NOT in the Hottest 100 that have stood the test of time (like there are plenty of songs released in 2009 that didn't make the Hottest 100 but will be looked back upon much more favourably than some songs that did make the cut).

In no particular order (and BTW IIRC tassie did have JJJ at that time, well hobart did)

Rooster - AIC
Nearly Lost You - Screaming Trees
Friday I'm In Love - the cure
Heart Shaped Box - Nirvana
Man On the Moon - REM
Ebeenezer Goode - The Shamen
Soul To Squeeze - RHCP
Wild America - Iggy Pop
Jessie - Paw
Jesus Was Way Cool - King Missile

I consider it to be a pretty awesome list except for East 17
