Ever since I finished Year 12 there is nothing really to do. Except work and play xbox all day and that slowly drains me haha! So I realised that I have a bit of a collection of books, I have always enjoyed reading, but didn't do it often. I got halfway through the Hunger Games (People told me to read it after I saw the movie) so I did, but found I had little time to fit all of this in so I didn't finish. Until recently when I was bored, after that I started reading more of my old books until I bought 1984 by George Orwell, I am halfway through it and it is already becoming a favourite book haha! My question is to all of you, do you enjoy reading? If so, what are your favourite books? What kind of books do you enjoy reading?

I love to read. Always have. I usually have 2 or 3 books going. One at work. In the Fire & Ambulance game you're either busy as hell or you're doing absolutely nothing so having a book on hand is a good idea. Then I'll have one or two at home to read when the mood strikes.

I have some that I read each year. I've read 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' every year since the 6th Grade (well before the movies). I learn something new each read-through. I also read 'A Christmas Carol' each year on Christmas Eve. Every couple of years I try to do James Clavell's Asian Saga. I've just finished 'Shogun' and 'Tai-Pan' and have 'Gai-Jin' at my left elbow with a book mark in it as we speak. Then I'll have something technical. History, Military History, Science, Biography or whatever. When I'm doing Clavell, I usually also be browsing through a series of books I have on Japanese and Chinese history.

I have some textbooks I've picked up here and there to include my high school Geometry, Agebra, Physics and Trig books I found someplace in a garage sale. It's good for the brain to open these up every so often and blast through some problems.

I don't play video games because I suck at them, and I suck at them because I don't play them. I have an X-Box and a Playstation, but those are for guests. If I have some spare time on my hands, I'd much rather be with a book. Oh, and pr0n. Lots of pr0n.

Patton: A Genius for War - Carlo D'Este

Infantry Attacks (Infanterie Greift An) - Erwin Rommel

The Rommel Papers - Erwin Rommel, B. H. Liddel Hart.

Those are the four best books I've read in a quite a while. The first two gives detailed perspective on the East and West European fronts in WWII. Infantry Attacks is Rommel's memoirs as an infantry commander in WWI and The Rommel Papers are a compilation of Rommel's memors during WWII which he intended to publish in a similar manner to Infantry Attacks.

I don't know what sort of military history goon you are. I like all of it, but tend to spend most of time on WWII. Cheers!

Some of my Feist books have gone missing as well. I suspected my brother to begin with, but now you're suspect #1.

It's a possibility that I am you. I guess we'll never know though.

I adore reading; it was something that was instilled in me from a young age and flicking through my primary school achievement book it is littered with awards for reading. However, ever since I've discovered forums and browsing the internet to kill time, I've found my concentration span severely diminished. Constantly scrolling and skimming information discourages deep thought and reflection and encourages the brain to constantly search for the next stimulation.

I still read and read greatly. Average ~6-8 books a year but I rarely get lost in a novel anymore. I still enjoy reading them, but I'm always acutely aware of my surroundings and the time.

Reading the newspaper everyday also contributes to this, but on a lesser plain. I need to devote more time to novels and long-form journalism and less time to forums and short-form journalism.

I loved reading. As a kid I'd read every book I could, often a Stephen King would turn into a 5-6hr reading session.

Then I hit uni. Attempting a dual-degree, triple-major I had to take on 2nd and 3rd year subjects in my first semester, resulting in lots of 'previously covered' texts to be read.

3-4 hours a night, every night for 3 months. Second semester the same. Xmas break the same.

I was given a book for my birthday. 6 months later it still lay on my bedside table, untouched.

Now, I can't finish a newspaper article without falling asleep.

Uni drained all my enjoyment garnered from reading.

I love reading through non-fiction books when I am bored, it probably stems from my love of documentaries which I watch wayyyy too much of haha! As a kid I loved reading non-fiction books about evolution, biology etc.

Haven't read in a couple of months. Perhaps my longest non-reading drought since I was 7 (22 now). Of course, the impending release of the final wheel of time book will put an end to that. Also looking forward to Hobb's 2nd Fitzchivalry trilogy which is currently sitting on my shelf.

I love reading. Easily my favourite pastime.

One of my favorites obviously. Love Chuck Palanhuik, Brett Easton Ellis, Irvine Welsh, Arthur C Clarke, Isaac Asimov, and loads of others.. Been reading most of Stephen Clarke's books lately as an Anglais speaking man in France they're very funny and relevant for me.

Like others I usually have three or four on the go at once. Been in France only 8 months but already have over 100 books in my collection here. Not always easy to find books in English here but Ebay, local Vide Grenier(car boot sales) can find some really cheap stuff. Picked up a never read Irvine Welsh Omnibus for 2 euros at a market... Retail price on the cover was 60 pounds... WIN.

My Brother got me on to TDM & it's fair to say the subheader on the cover, "Few novels can change your life. This one will" was not a lie!

I contemplated attempting that lifestyle for a while... even tested it a few times. I remember rolling dice one morning to decide whether to go to work or not.. The dice told me to stay home but I wimped out and went in because of guilt...

Shame really, but in a way I do live my life on a whim, but its emotive.
