I am looking to buy a place in Melbourne. I currently live overseas. I have been looking at places on real estate websites. If I was interested in a place that was up for auction is there anyway I could send a proxy? If so what would it entail and would it be risky?

Pretty sure you can set a limit and a rep from the real estate agent will bid for you. But this sounds dodgy to me. You want t have a mate or someone you know there bidding for you.

price on application

Means you have to ring up the agent, give him your details and have a general chit chat about what you are looking for before he/she tells you the price of the property.
