Women lap it up. Blokes seem to chill out watching the footy or any other sport that is on TV. Women have always enjoyed the drama of these sorts of shitty shows. Same reason garbage like The Block and My Kitchen Rules continue to be put on year after year despite being the most boring pieces of s**t I've ever watched.

It really is sad though how far Australian TV has fallen. Obviously we're never going to compete with the UK or US who have networks with far bigger budgets and access to better talent but it's still a joke. The average TV watcher has accepted reality TV as the norm and basically killed off the whole idea of an actual decent TV series being produced here.

34 seasons and still going strong. Best game/reality TV show of all time.

Survivor is just as bad... its outdoors big brother masquerading as a game show. It's all about people and people interacting with other people under the guise of challenges, competition, and survival situations.

Not really. US Survivor is about strategy, game theory and psychology with a sprinkling of personal animosity between the contestants thrown in to heighten the drama (as every US reality show incorporates). It's both a mental and physical challenge and due to the different personalities and game-styles employed by each new cast the series never really gets old (the last 6 or 7 seasons in particular have been of extremely high quality).

Shows like The Real Housewives and others like it (Married At First Sight, Seven Year Switch, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and all that other s**t) are nothing more than manufactured, over-produced, vapid excuses for "entertainment" where barely anything is genuine.
